Tom Cochrane In Concert
Most Americans know Tom Cochrane for his hit "Life Is a Highway" â and rightly so, as the song absolutely dominated mainstream radio and MTV in 1991 and â92. But in his native Canada, Cochrane is a bonafide rock'n'roll legend.Â
He's been bestowed with the Order of Canada, inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and awarded an honorary colonel, honorary doctorate, and honorary star on the Canadian Walk of Fame. In short, he is a very big, beloved deal.Â
It's easy to see why. Cochrane earned his status through years of tireless performing, both as a solo artist and with his breakout band Red Rider, as well as his lifetime of charity work around the world and generally being unabashedly and unfailingly Canadian. For Canucks of a certain age, Tom Cochrane is an icon of a generation.
Though he bought his first guitar when he was 11, Cochrane's musical career took a while to hit full speed. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and grew up the son of a bush pilot in Etobicoke, Ontario. After attending technical school, he moved to Los Angeles to get into show business, but failed to make a mark.Â
Back in Toronto, he paid the bills as a cab driver, dock worker, and sailboat crewman while playing solo gigs in coffee shops and dive bars around the city. He eventually connected with guitarist Ken Greer of the band Red Rider, and they joined forces in 1978, finding quick success across Canada with their debut album as a unit.Â
Cochrane and Greer stuck together through a decade of lineup changes, but after a handful of platinum albums and hit singles that failed to break into the U.S. market, Red Rider disbanded in 1990. Thanks in part to the evergreen irresistibility of "Life Is a Highway," Cochrane has sustained a successful solo career ever since, playing with a veteran backing band in theaters around the world.

I find that the noise volume was deafening. The theatre was disappointing in style was looking for better. The music was not bad
Energy and calibre of performance was excellent! Biggest issue was audio and sound balancing for the space was very poor. Hard to discern lyrics from the audio wash out. Will reconsider future concerts at the Expo if this is a standard issue.
Great performance, horrible sound. The sound was very distorted. You did not understand what they were saying. This was the second time at the expo center for a concert and it was a problem with both times. My friend said the subs were too high and the walls were not insulated. I thought the first time was something to do with the artist (zztop), but it wasn't. It was constant with both. Unless this is fixed, I don't think I'll be back to the expo center.
Tom Cochrane was amazing. I'm so glad I got to see him. Sass Jordan was crazy good. What a voice. And of course Trooper. Great entertainment. I love the Expo Centre. There is no bad seat, it's a small venue holds around 2500. You can get a drink quickly and be back to your seat. Unlike Roger's Place where it is so jammed and takes forever to get food in drink or get in or out or go to the washroom.
Had a wonderful time where the atmosphere was intimate, electric and all out rockinâ with unreal guitar solos, great energy and finally a concert to remember!
What a GREAT venue!! Small enough to feel intimate! Tom C was absolutely amazing...funny and so talented! The whole band was so talented. I also want to commend the staff at OLG Niagara - friendly and very helpful. Our whole night was an awesome night to remember!
Eighth time seeing Tom and it just gets better at each show. Did all the classics you would expect and the crowd just ate it up. OLG Fallsview is an incredible place to see a show. In all an incredible evening. Also thanks to Tom for the shoutout to me for Bird On A WireâŚ
