Our second time going to Toast the Coast

by Chilipep on 6/11/19Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Was a great experience. Wine was fantastic. The wine pairing was excellent once again. It was really hard to here in the Turf Club when they were talking on stage. Heard much better when it was in the garden area more intimate and personal at the San Diego Fair. Heard every detail. We did enjoy and loved the balcony over looking wine tasting below. Food was fantastic and appetizers were Yummo! You had my wine club wine served, was a great surprise, viva LaFond winery. Plus more tasting of my favorite LaFond wines down below. Thanks for the experience once again for my niece and I once again. Our go to place every year. Thank you.,

    Awesome event!

by Amy on 6/11/19Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

There were plenty of wineries available with enough bottles to accommodate tasting for the duration of the event. It was well organized and easy to move from winery to winery for tasting. The knowledge of the volunteers varied by winery, but overall a great event I'd consider attending again.

    Toast of Coast Good

by FFBGE on 6/13/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Fewer wineries than in the past, but most were quite good, Cheese selections were quite expanded. Perhaps other gourmet items can be added in the future?

    No wine for wine tasting

by Anonymous on 6/13/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

We attended an excellent VIP wine-paired meal, our 4th year in a row. But the event comes with wine and cheese tasting after the email with about 40-50 vendors. After the lunch was complete around 1:30pm, nearly ALL vendors were out of wine! Well before 3;00pm session end. time. Either they sold TOO MANY Tickets or limited the wine each vendor could bring to the event. Will not return unless this is solved.

    Toast of the Coast

by Florence7 on 6/12/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

The wine pairing event was very nice however we spent all our time in the pairing and when it was over most of the wineries had run out of wine and where no longer pouring. I feel this was poor planning and many people were upset that there was no wine left.

    VIP Toast of the Coast

by Fairisfun on 6/12/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Apps, wine and food were amazing. Short pours on pairing wines. Sad part—they didn’t reserve wine for the 4:00 group after the pairings. The 12:00 group or the non VIPs drank it all by 6 pm! This is our 3rd time to this event and there is usually plenty of wine until 7 pm when the event is officially over.

Toast of the Coast Wine Festival

by Anonymous on 6/12/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

My girlfriend and I were looking forward to this event; we were both very disappointed. First the tickets were expensive $110 ea. when you realize later the value was very poor. They advertise King Crab, but what they served was literally a morsel on a tablespoon with other fillers. The following dishes were a tad bit bigger in size, but not by much. The small portion of wine served was good but a tease. Additional wine tasting outside of the VIP venue was to last another hour after our VIP event ended, but after the vendors had exhausted there budget of wine they would not serve more as they held back until they resumed pouring for the evening ticket sales. What a rip. Save your money for an honest wine tasting experience. We learned the hard way, so learn from our mistake. We won't fall for this next year. Cheers!

    Fun with friends

by Lacasa on 6/12/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Some of the better rated wines ‘ran out’ before the festival was over. Also, expected more wineries. Valle de Guadalupe in Mexico was advertised, but found none at the festival. God time with friends, but pricey for what we received.

    Don’t attend

by Anonymous1145 on 6/12/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

They were out of wine half way through the event. Waste of money.

VIP great, rest of even horrible

by Jesstremies on 6/12/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

I did VIP which was amazing. Great food, nice seats and wine flowing from all directions! However, the idea is to also enjoy other tastings once we are done with dinner. We had an hour to go around and try everything and it was a complete mad house! Only 5 out of maybe 30 tastings were even open. Needless to say there were a ton of people at those three tastings trying to get the last bit of wine. It was chaos and very hectic, I was really disappointed with that part. If I only paid for GA I would want my money back. Overall VIP great but they need to make sure the vendors have enough wine! Also, I overheard the vendors complaining about all of us too.. not cool

    Toast of the Coast festival

by Spindogum on 6/12/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

After years of going to this festival and enjoying myself every time, this year was by far a significant letdown. Not only did all the wine vendors run out of wine during the first session with over an hour remaining, they were instructed to only give out 1 ounce or less pours. It is very difficult to enjoy or really taste the wine when you are only given a sip at a time.

VIP experience GOOD, Afterward wine tasting BAD

by QueenCon on 6/12/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

The VIP portion was very enjoyable...I highly recommend it! The pairing of the food with the wine was great. I enjoyed the presentation talks from the chef and the various wine makers. The staff serving the food and pouring the wine was great too! Unfortunately, the general wine tasting after the VIP was a BUST! We were told during the VIP event that we would have an hour to enjoy wine tasting from the various wineries. Almost all of the wineries were out of wine! We were looking forward tasting additional local and regional wines (which was included with our ticket), but almost all of the wineries were out of wine! Very disappointing! PLEASE NOTE: We attended the VIP wine tasting event last year and after the event, there was still wine available from the various vendors for those of us who attended the VIP portion.. I hope this issue is addressed for next year!

Complete waste of money and time

by Seeryanrun on 6/12/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Went to the afternoon session from 4-7pm. We got there a little late, probably by 4:45. Several wineries had already shut down and several more were on their last bottle. By 6PM the only wineries still pouring were the ones who Brought extra wine on their own dime. Turns out the fair only purchased 2 cases of wine from each place and then sold unlimited tickets with unlimited tastings. By the second session there was nothing left. Will not do this again, nor any other “festival” at the fair. Don’t wast your money on this and just go to a winery or wine bar to try things.

    Toast the Coast

by Bubbula on 6/12/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Toast the Coast was a nice way to spend an afternoon at the fair. The variety of wines was good, I'm very happy about the cheese and chocolate offerings. They were delicious and went well with some of the wine pairings. Alas, the tables were extremely crowded and it was a wait to get to some of the wines. Most of the people manning the tables were very knowledgeable about their wines, others not so much. In the last hour or the event the wine offerings were slim so if you didn't get the wine the first time around the venue, you were out of luck.

    Pretty Great

by 1234wine1234 on 6/12/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Toast of the Coast was fun as usual. We met lots of new wine makers, and got to see lots of old friends. The addition of cheeses by lots of different creameries was nice. Sadly, pretty much every winery ran out of wines to pour around 2:00, leaving an hour or so out of 3 hours with nothing to taste. Please plan for the size of crowds for next year!

    Waist of money

by TinaQu on 6/12/18Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Most wineries were out of wine within 1 hour and the event was planned for 3 hours. The Health Department shut down the cheese tables due to poor preparation regulations. I would like a refund, as this is not what I paid for!!!

    Lots of Fun!

by QueenCon on 6/13/17Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

We went to the first session. The food was wonderful, and wine parings were great, and we really enjoyed the commentary by the wineries and the chef! Well worth the $.
