    Toast of the Coast

by MeMerry on 6/15/22Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

We had attended the 2019 VIP Toast of the Coast and had a wonderful time experiencing a sit-down food/wine pairing in addition to a walk-around appetizer and wine pairing in the Turf Club. Later we went down to the "GA" tasting to try wines there too. This time, the event was on the patio of the Corona Beach House and it was all stand in line for appetizers, food, and wine. We're in our 70's and like to be served now. The wines for the VIP tasting were not award winning. The food was all pretty good though! We did go downstairs to the other tasting several times in order to get wines that we liked. Taking the stairs over 5 times for that was exhausting! Also downstairs didn't have any award winning wines either! Not sure why the winners of the Toast of the Coast weren't served upstairs! Not sure we'll do this again next year if it's going to be the same.

    Fun could be better

by Karen (yes my actual name lol) on 6/14/22Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

I liked that it was set up on the turf area. Liked that there were different vendors. However, some of them did not have labels. Most of the vendors had a little flag with the winery’s name but some didn’t so obviously that doesn’t make those with out appealing. The “commemorative cup” they give you was literally a tiny plastic cup with no label, nothing to remember the event by. Was disappointed with that because it’s not even the size of a regular wine glass, which is how typical wine tasting are suppose to go. 1oz pours where not given with that tiny cup. Overall, it was an okay experience just to try a few different tastings. But would rather spend the $30+ dollars on an actual wine tasting tour.

    VIP disappointing

by NT on 6/14/22Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Unfortunately the VIP experience was disappointing. The wine selections were all white, rose or sparkling. Not a single red wine. In addition the tastes were literally one small sip so you couldn’t enjoy wine with the food. The food pairings were pretty terrible with the exception of the cheese and charcuterie station which was wonderful. If we could have had a little more wine to enjoy with the great cheese it would have been better. The non-VIP event downstairs offered much better wine selections and for $30 for 5 (much more generous) tastes I would actually recommend that event.

    Disappointing

by Wino46 on 6/14/22Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

After attending previous Toast of the Coasts for several years we expected the same kind of event. We were looking forward to a chef hosted serving with a poured wine pairing. Instead we got a serve yourself small bite and a bit of wine. There was no program provided so we did not know there would be other items available at a later time. When asked, the wine servers had no idea what was going on. Don't bother. What a waste of time and money.

    Enjoyed...but could have been better

by QueenCon on 6/14/22Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Enjoyed the wine and food. Would have liked to hear from the winemaker about the award winning wine we were drinking and from the chef re: the food paring. Great Wine and Food....just wanted to hear about it. It was kind of a free for all.

    A Disappointment

by C. M. on 6/14/22Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

In years past, there was a discussion about the wines and the pairings offered. This year was a free-for-all with no discussion or information shared. Please revisit formats from prior years. Very Disappointing!

    Bottles & Hors d'oeuvres

by King Char on 6/14/22Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

This was such a fun event and the VIP experience was the icing on top. I can honestly say this was one of the most enjoyable Del Mar fair visits so far, and I go to the fair nearly every year.

    Toast the Coast

by Deb on 7/8/19Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

The 2019 Toast the Coast was a nice experience but I would have rather had it back in the garden section of the fair. There was no shade and it was a very sunny day. There was no place to sit down in the event area and it made for a long afternoon in the sun. It would have been nice to have shade in the champagne bubble area but at least there was a place to sit down.

    Toast of the Coast

by The Hunk on 6/21/19Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

Fun event. We went to the VIP. Food was very good. The function room was very equine inspired. My only real complaint is as a pasty Irish American visiting from Boston, is that there was almost no shade. A tent or canopy would be great

    Toast of the Coast

by MeMerry on 6/11/19Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

We really enjoyed the VIP experience at the Toast of the Coast at the fair. Loved the fact that it was inside in a very nice restaurant with stations for wine and appetizers then poured wines and paired foods served to us at the table! Then we went downstairs to the festival area to walk around and taste more wines! Great time and had to have a nap afterwards! Luckily we stayed at the Hilton nearby!
