TOAD THE WET SPROCKET IN CONCERT:

In 2013
beloved alt-rockers Toad the Wet Sprocket released their first album of new material in more than 15 years, and proved they've lost none of their energy or melodic sense with a series of electrifying shows. Frontman Glen Phillips and his bandmates can nail a harmony with the best of them, and they're musicianship really shines on cuts from the new album like "The Moment". While the band is excited about the new release, fans of their earlier work have nothing to worry about -- Toad the Wet Sprocket's sets consistently top the two hour mark, and their upcoming dates with Counting Crows will feature all their classic hits including "All I Want" and "Good Intentions".

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Toad the Wet Sprocket was formed in 1986 by a group of high school friends in Santa Barbara, CA. The band achieved modest success on college radio with early albums like Bread & Circus (1989) and Pale (1990), but it wasn't until the 1991 release of their third album Fear that they really broke through to the mainstream. Top 20 singles "All I Want" and "Walk on the Ocean" propelled the album to platinum sales, paving the way for extensive touring throughout the US and Europe. Their follow-up album Dulcinea in 1994 was a similar success, scoring the band their first chart-topper with "Fall Down". After breaking up in 1998 the band reassembled periodically over the years to play shows, and in 2009 they reunited full-time to begin work on a new album. The result was 2013's New Constellation, a critical and commercial success that marked their return to the charts and set the stage for continued touring.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Toad the Wet Sprocket sound as good now, or better than they ever did. Great show with audience interaction - fantastic harmonizing - GO SEE THEM!"

"They sounded great and seemed happy and enthusiastic to be playing together again. The playlist included all the old greats and several from their latest release, which sounded even better live."

"Great show! The band played a mix of songs from the old stuff and new album. Kicked it off with "The Moment", best song from the new album. Fans sang along the whole way through."

    Always an excellent show

    by R. S. on 7/9/23

Toad always puts on a great show, just a night of incredible music by both the openers and the headliners. I love that they have relatively unknown openers; they are usually absolutely amazing and all acoustic. Toad’s sound is so refined and the live show is up close and feels very personal.

    Still Got It!

Loved the show. What at great band. I first saw Toad at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz in 1994. They still got. And they so nicely incorporated new songs.

    Very impressed

    by Jplog on 6/29/23

We went with two CD’s experience of the Toad library from over the years. I was honestly extremely impressed with the level of song writing and quality music produced that night. We went from mildly interested to “Can’t wait till they come back”. Well done. Marcy Playground also passed my expectations. I had no idea they rocked like that.

    Great night of music!

by RDS cincy on 6/29/23Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

TTWS is one of the most underrated bands around. They exude low key coolness and deliver musical excellence. From the pre-show acoustic numbers to the entire set list of crowd pleasers it was an amazing night. But that is not a surprise because every time I have seen them dating back to 1990 they have always delivered. I only wish the crowd would have been a little more excited earlier in the set, but as Glen said early on, "we're not 20 anymore".

    Awesome

by ECC on 6/29/23Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

Seeing Toad in concert has been on my wish list for years. It finally worked out and did not disappoint. They still sound as great if not better than they did in the 90s. Amazing cover of an Indigos girl song was a surprise and highlight too. My only complaint was the sleepy venue and crowd. Wish it was more a stand up sing/dance concert verse sit/listen. The band did finally say “stand up people” near the end which breathed some life in the crowd.

Even after all of these years, these guys still put on a fantastic show! I will go to their show every single time they're in town.

Great performances by the bands! Would be nice if the venue had restrooms available other than just the basement

    Toad is a never-miss

by Becka on 6/19/23The Wilbur - Boston

The Wilber has horrible chairs and Toad is the only band I'd sit through at that venue! This year's show had the best set list I've seen them do. If you can catch them on tour this time, go!

    The Toad Show

by Tim on 6/19/23The Wilbur - Boston

Really excellent show. The band played well, together and individually. Very tight and still having fun with it. Song selection was also great, I did not expect to hear "Nanci" but there it was, right in the middle of the set. They played straight through, no breaks. Vocal harmonies were spot on with a surprise cover of "Closer To Fine" to prove the point. Glen Phillips' voice was just as full of character as when I first heard them many years ago. The sound tech also did an excellent job, everything was clear and clean, and in the right proportions (Great mix!). Lighting was appropriate and on cue. Sincerely, one of the better shows I've seen in the last many years.

    Love the band

by LisaInVA on 6/19/23Capital One Hall - Tysons

We were lucky enough to do the meet and greet and they were very gracious. We enjoyed a 2 song acoustic set, pictures, and then front and center for a great concert. The venue needs a better selection of food, especially if they're going to trap you in there unable to leave. Also needs some security at the stage area. 5 stars for the band, 3 for Capital One Hall.

    Fantastic time with great vibe!

    by M. H. on 6/18/23

Toad the Wet Sprocket sounded great and the concert was a super mix of songs. Loved the arrangement of “Good Intention” and the Indigo Girls “Closer to Fine.” The energy was great, most everyone on their feet for “Fall Down” (a favorite) and the last third of the concert. Great musicians, so glad I got to go!
