TOAD THE WET SPROCKET IN CONCERT:

In 2013
beloved alt-rockers Toad the Wet Sprocket released their first album of new material in more than 15 years, and proved they've lost none of their energy or melodic sense with a series of electrifying shows. Frontman Glen Phillips and his bandmates can nail a harmony with the best of them, and they're musicianship really shines on cuts from the new album like "The Moment". While the band is excited about the new release, fans of their earlier work have nothing to worry about -- Toad the Wet Sprocket's sets consistently top the two hour mark, and their upcoming dates with Counting Crows will feature all their classic hits including "All I Want" and "Good Intentions".

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Toad the Wet Sprocket was formed in 1986 by a group of high school friends in Santa Barbara, CA. The band achieved modest success on college radio with early albums like Bread & Circus (1989) and Pale (1990), but it wasn't until the 1991 release of their third album Fear that they really broke through to the mainstream. Top 20 singles "All I Want" and "Walk on the Ocean" propelled the album to platinum sales, paving the way for extensive touring throughout the US and Europe. Their follow-up album Dulcinea in 1994 was a similar success, scoring the band their first chart-topper with "Fall Down". After breaking up in 1998 the band reassembled periodically over the years to play shows, and in 2009 they reunited full-time to begin work on a new album. The result was 2013's New Constellation, a critical and commercial success that marked their return to the charts and set the stage for continued touring.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Toad the Wet Sprocket sound as good now, or better than they ever did. Great show with audience interaction - fantastic harmonizing - GO SEE THEM!"

"They sounded great and seemed happy and enthusiastic to be playing together again. The playlist included all the old greats and several from their latest release, which sounded even better live."

"Great show! The band played a mix of songs from the old stuff and new album. Kicked it off with "The Moment", best song from the new album. Fans sang along the whole way through."

    Toad's Still Got It!

by rexstardust on 7/24/09VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino North Kansas City - North Kansas City

Toad the Wet Sprocket proved they are still one of the most underrated bands of all time. Their sound was tight, the setlist was predictably excellent, and Joe Lyons on cowbell during "Come Down" was just too cool. Can't wait til the next time they come through KC.

Toad the Wet Sprocket put on a really good show

by toucanSam8 on 7/24/09VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino North Kansas City - North Kansas City

The opener was funny and a very talented musician. Toad sounded really good live, and they are definitely a talented group. I was a bit unsure since I was a huge fan back in the 90s but had never heard them live; so I was skeptical going in since they hadn't performed in a decade. I was happy that I really enjoyed the concert and would recommend it to anyone, including the concert lover that isn't familiar with their music. I took several friends who had never heard of the group nor their music, and they all enjoyed it. The VooDoo Lounge was a nice venue too.

Toad - Great show, great band, great guys

by KellyRR on 7/24/09VooDoo Lounge at Harrah's Casino North Kansas City - North Kansas City

Toad the Wet Sprocket at VooDoo Lounge in KC was an amazing show. The guys are still great together and gave a fantastic show. They played mostly songs from Fear, Dulcinea and Coil. Personally I would have enjoyed some older stuff from Pale and Bread and Circus but those older songs are less known by the Toad fans of today. Toad Rocked!!

    Great performance

by TexasCE on 7/23/09House of Blues Houston - Houston

Had a great time finally getting to see Toad live and in concert after waiting for over a decade and a half. As one of my favorite bands growing up, I had always wanted to see them live and in concert, but since they had never been down in this part of teh country, I hadn't ever got the chance. The band put on a great performance, mixing things up with some of their new as well as their old songs and virtually all their big hits. Gerat show and I will definitely make sure to see them should they make a return trip to Houston.

    Toad still has it!

by Hosterman1975 on 7/21/09House of Blues Houston - Houston

I have been a big toad the wet Sprocket fan for about 15 years now and I have seen them six times in concert, but it had been over ten years since i had seen them and at least that long since the last time they played in Texas. So i was excited when I heard that they would be playing at the House of Blues in Houston. I live in the Dallas area over four hours away in Houston but nothing was going to stop me from seeing these guys again. I have never been to the House of Blues before but i was very pleased with the venue and the sound system was outstanding. Toad rocked the house out and I had a blast! I just wish these guys would tour more in the south.

    Fantastic Show

by Hager on 7/16/09House of Blues Houston - Houston

This was my first time to see Toad live. I started listening to them in 1998 and they quickly became one of my favorite bands. All in all, they played various tracks from several of their albums, including Crazy Life and Woodburning, my two favorites. After the show, three of the band members mixed with the fans and signed autographs and posed for pictures, which I thought was very kind of them. This meant a lot of me and I know it did to many of the other fans.

1995 All Over Again at The Variety Playhouse

    by Suzz54 on 7/14/09Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

It was a good show for a Toad fan and I am a huge Toad the Wet Sprocket fan. I have seen them many times in the 90's and on various reunion tours as well as seeing Glen Phillips solo. The show was good. The sound was off, but I put most of the blame the venue. Toad was Toad, they sang their songs, talked to the crowd, and did the obscure stuff for real fans- as usual. For the first time in my life and seeing this band numerous times in their hay day and now I got to hear- Good Intentions! Even if Glen had to restart it because he forgot the words. That was the only song I needed need to hear to have my live Toad the Wet Sprocket song collection complete. They did not end with I Will Not Take These Things For Granted- which was a a bummer and why I didn't give 5 out of 5 stars. If you are a Toad fan then the show was excellent- catch them anytime on tour, if you are not fond of Toad then the show would be a bore. (I was told that directly from my boyfriend who is not a Toad fan)

by SuzanneP on 7/13/09Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

This show was incredibly amazing. I had a smile on my face for 2 solid hours! It was so great to see the guys from Toad again and all the songs sounded just like they did in 1992! :-)

TTWS shows they can still bring down the house!

    by rowens2121 on 7/13/09Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

Toad the Wet Sprocket rolled into Atlanta and lit up the Variety Playhouse on the very first song when the opening rift of Something's Always Wrong hit the crowd. Having seats in the center section on the floor I was amazed that no one returned to sitting for the entire show. They were that good and captivating as a group and entertainers. Glen Phillips and the entire group seemed genuinely appreciative of the energy and drive that came from the crowd that night - perhaps not realizing they themselves provided the fuel that energized the entire venue. Playing mostly the standards we all know - with special attention to Dulcinea - they were tight for every song and pulled the crowd in as if on queue. They are putting on a great show this summer and it is worth checking out!

    Great show

by Moriarty on 7/12/09Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

Toad put on an amazing show. I went to the concert thinking of all of the songs that I was hoping they would play. They managed to play every song on that list, and a couple of old favorites that I hadn't even thought about. Not only did they pick the best of their music, but they engaged the crowd well, which made for an overall great performance.

I think the lead singer was in an "altered state"

by Clementine on 7/12/09Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

Wasn't thrilled with the concert- the venue was terrific, but I swear the lead singer was either drunk or stoned. He stumbled over words and they didn't play anything from their old stuff- No Nancy, and nothing from Fear. Had such potential to be a great event in such an intimate setting- disappointing.
