About Titanic – The Artifact Exhibition

The sinking of the mighty RMS Titanic in April 1912 is an event forever enshrined in American (not to mention international) history, memorialized in song, literature and, of course, the blockbuster film named for the doomed ship. Part of the public's continuing fascination with the event is that in addition to tragedy it represents heroism on the part of the crew, and survival for those who lived to tell the tale. People can engage with the story of the Titanic on all of those levels, and that's where Titanic – The Artifact Exhibition comes in. It allows you to walk into that maritime world for a while, view actual historic items from the ship and interact with the Titanic experience in an unforgettable way.

Probably the most immediately arresting artifact included in the exhibition is the aptly dubbed The Big Piece. It's an enormous, 15-ton section of the Titanic's hull, which lends a sense of the massive ship's scale. But there are plenty of other items recovered from the ship, including postcards, money, playing cards, dishes and personal effects. And in addition to artifacts, re-creations help to bring the whole experience home to visitors. You'll hear accounts of the passengers' own experiences on the Titanic, see their individual boarding passes for the boat and visit startlingly realistic simulations of different parts of the ship. The promenade deck, the staircase and the sleeping quarters are reproduced in dazzling detail. You can even view a re-creation of the huge iceberg that brought so many of the Titanic's passengers to their grim, terrible fate and get a visceral understanding of the forces of nature that were at work. It all adds up to an emotional experience that's simultaneously sad and inspiring, and the exhibit makes you feel as if you're taking part in a historic saga.

    Titanic Exhibition was Lilliputian

by camapa233 on 4/18/12Premier Exhibiton Center at Atlantic Station - Atlanta

What is it about traveling exhibits which come to Atlanta that they are small in size and disappointing in scope? The King Tut exhibit didn't even have one of the 14 sarcophagi to show us. And now the Titanic exhibit which had maybe 200 items on display, and that's counting 2 cuff links and 4 shirt studs as a total of 6. Las Vegas had a much larger event. Other cities have had much larger Titanic events. Not so Atlanta? The reconstruction of the First Class suite was laughably not first class. A wall, and some furniture dropped in to take up space? Cheap and tawdry. Not at all representative of the choicest rooms on the ship. The posters on the walls were informative, but sadly, they were a very major part of the exhibit. The young people who were guides and hosts were well-trained and did good jobs. The best piece of the exhibit was the model of the bow of the ship as it lays on the floor of the Atlantic. Exhibitors have gotten me twice with these "major" events coming to Atlanta. They won't get me the third time because they have "fooled me twice." Shoot, even the offerings in the gift shop were underwhelming.

    Titanic Exhibit Atlantic Station

by KayKay530 on 4/18/12Premier Exhibiton Center at Atlantic Station - Atlanta

This event is way over priced and its over in just a few minutes. We went to one at the GA aquarium. It was amazing. Very long and less expensive. I could of saved my money.

    Very interesting

by PaulGA on 4/17/12Premier Exhibiton Center at Atlantic Station - Atlanta

Gave a great perspective on the disaster. See the artifacts really was amazing. Wish there was a lot more artifacts and more to see. I think the boiler room display should have been actual size to give the true sense of how large they really are. It is still difficult to image the scale of the ship. Would love to see more. Great exhibit overall.

    Amazing and moving experience

by Amy53173 on 4/17/12Premier Exhibiton Center at Atlantic Station - Atlanta

This was an experience that I will never forget. To go to the Titanic exhibit on the 100 anniversary of the sinking was amazing. My 7 year old daughter was as moved as I was. It will be a memory that we will share for the rest of our lives. I can't wait to go again.

by compustuff1966 on 4/16/12Premier Exhibiton Center at Atlantic Station - Atlanta

It was great to see the detailed display of artifacts and history of the Titanic on the 100th anniversery of it's sinking. To see actual items that were in the Titanic was interesting, and really bought the history home. I would recommend this to a friend.

I was so fortunate to visit the exhibition on the 100th anniversary and the experience was magical. It was wonderful taking in all of the artifacts while learning about some of the passengers. It was set up in a way that made it personal which I really appreciated. I would absolutely recommend anyone interested in the story of Titanic check this out, you will not be disappointed!

    I was Underwhelmed

by SingleMomwithkids on 4/12/12Premier Exhibiton Center at Atlantic Station - Atlanta

My youngest son is a huge Titanic fan, both the movie, and every library book he can find on the subject, so I thought we'd take an "educational" trip down to Atlantic Station on the tail end of Spring Break, and see the show. For $80 for one adult, one teenager, and one child, I expected an immersion experience. I got placards on walls, and a few trinkets in glass cases, incessant piped overloud music, and had to pay extra for an audio device that mostly repeated the placards. It didn't help that maintenance was working in the entrance area putting molding down, either.

Titanic Exhibition - Atlantic Station Atlanta

by weathernut54 on 4/11/12Premier Exhibiton Center at Atlantic Station - Atlanta

I took my 6 year old grandson to the exhibit as he is totally into the whole Titanic 100th anniversary. While I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibit and found the artifacts incredible to view, the set-up of the exhibit was very "museum-like"; and, my grandson found it utterly boring as nothing except the "what does 28 degrees Fahrenheit feel like" display was hands-on. The exhibit would be interesting to anyone over 10+ years old; I'd leave the little ones at home for this one.

Titanic Exhibit - Not worth the money

by Jakeman88 on 4/9/12Premier Exhibiton Center at Atlantic Station - Atlanta

Expected to see more things that were personal items of the crew or passengers. Although it was ok, I would spend the money to see portholes of a ship. This is a walk through exhibit and we saw everything in 30 minutes. Not recommended.

    Not as robust as expected

by Nytingale on 4/8/12Premier Exhibiton Center at Atlantic Station - Atlanta

From what I'd read, I expected to see more. The exhibits didn't match the preview photos ( no stacks-of-china photo with re-creation of that scene in display box ... NO third-class accommodation re-creation). It was nice to see the first-class cabin, but it was only so-so. At the price charged, we should've been able to find more than 45 minutes' worth of items to see. Also, take care in gift shop. Two books have different titles, but essentially the same content. What a rip-off.

It really brought home the enormity of the tragedy

by Ralda on 4/8/12Premier Exhibiton Center at Atlantic Station - Atlanta

The staff was so helpful and the displays were so informative. The whole experience, from beginning to the end, was an experience everyone should be a part of.
