About

Tim Allen on Tour

However busy he may be as one of comedy's biggest stars on screens big and small, Tim Allen stays true to his stand-up roots. Audiences for his live performances are just as eager to show their appreciation for his warm, wry and sometimes wild take on life in America, raising families and getting older.

Allen has honed his signature brand of observational comedy since he began earning laughs in clubs in the mid '70s. One of the most iconic performers to emerge from the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, he rose through the ranks in the '80s before finding fame on Home Improvement, his long-running ABC sitcom. His engaging and hilarious performances as Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story and hapless dad Scott Calvin in The Santa Clause led to two of Hollywood's most popular family-movie franchises. In 2011, he returned to television as the star of Last Man Standing, another hit sitcom that began its eighth season in 2020.

A series of live shows to promote his 2010 film Crazy on the Outside led to a renaissance for Allen's stand-up career and his first stand in Las Vegas since 1993. He continues to regularly perform in venues all over the US.

Who is Tim Allen?

A star at home on both screen and stage, Tim Allen has been a favorite of audiences ever since he broke out of the pack of future greats who found their voices at Los Angeles' iconic Comedy Store in the '80s.

Born in Colorado and raised in Michigan, Allen began his comedy career in clubs and on cable-access shows in the Detroit area in the mid '70s. After overcoming personal troubles and moving to Los Angeles, he soon became known for a sharp brand of observational humor that reflected his everyman perspective and was anything but politically correct. Allen found another means of showcasing his wry take on love, marriage and family life when his sitcom Home Improvement began its hugely successful run on ABC in 1991. His star rose higher with his performances in Toy Story and The Santa Clause, two big-screen family hits that spawned blockbuster franchises.

His other film credits include Christmas with the Kranks, Zoom, Crazy on the Outside and The Shaggy Dog. His two books Don't Stand Too Close to a Naked Man and I'm Not Really Here were bestsellers. In 2011, he returned to television to star in Last Man Standing, another long-running hit sitcom. Allen continues to perform live for audiences throughout the US.

  • ToolMan was a dud!

Been a long time T Allen fan .....read his books & seen most his movies. Lots of hype on his past success did not help this show - very disappointed. More laughs in the 15 min warm-up act.

I thought the warm up comedian was much more entertaining and his material was fresher. The microphone went out during Allens act and he really thought we would be able to hear him. Come on. I got the impression it was no big deal for him any material would do.

  • Terrible venue and mediocre comedy

by Anonymous on 4/12/10Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

I've been a Tim Allen fan for a long time, but unfortunately this show didn't live up to my expectations. Tim's routine is OK, but much of it simply isn't that funny. We've seen better shows for $15 at the local comedy club. Worse yet, the MotorCity Casino is a terrible venue. They sold "premium" seats that were 50 yards from the stage, but they were at the same level as the stage and the seats were not on an incline. I am 6'2" and all I could see was the head of the person in front of me. They had a large video screen mounted up near the ceiling, but it was also obstructed by the balcony above us. So we spent the whole time standing at the bar, which was a much better view. Then there was the 15-minute fire alarm, which the bartender told us "happens all the time." Completely unacceptable for a $50 show.

  • Tim Allen was great

Tim Allen was hilarious. I can't remember the name of the comedian who did the warm up for him but he was great also (he was a Detroit local- very funny). Motor City Bldg though had an issue due to the security feature they have. Supposedly a fire exit door was opened and the lights came on in the Sound Board and Tim Allen's mic didn't work. Tim Allen of course went with the situation and kept us entertained but we felt we missed something until they could get him another mic (which took quite awhile). I wished Tim Allen's performance was alittle longer too. All in all a good experience, it was our first time at Motor City Casino and Sound Board, would try it again.

I thought the show was very good. Tim Allen was pionent and confident. My boyfriend and I are fans of his show and movies, so it was great to see him in person in stand up. He is a great local enterteiner and We would go again. I didn't care for the venue. The set up of the balcony impares views from almost 70% of the seats. Many people complained about the view.

Overall the show was good. Expected Tim to be a little more funnier. Got a little bored with him talking about the Santa movies and the Angels.

  • Tim Allen was vulger

by mcgiel on 4/11/10Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 1 out of 5

I expect a little foul language from comedians, but Tim Allen was over the top. I think he felt the need to using foul language every 3rd word. It made what would have been funny, not funny. He worked hard to interject profanity . If he would have stayed with the family comedy of Home Improvement and Men are Pigs, he would have been a lot funnier. Was a huge fan, not anymore!

I like Tim Allen. His humor and delivery is very appealing, so, it's a clear bias for me to review this event. Nevertheless, the show was great. The bar was great. The seats, (obstructed) were OK, but the sound dropout was a bad feature. To Tim's credit, it was handled well by a pro stand up guy. I would've rated 5 stars without the sound trouble. 'Still a great night out on the town. Thanks.

  • TIM ALLEN STILL HAS IT

by Karellen on 4/11/10Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Very funny show; we never stopped laughing. He was even funnier doing ad lib when all the power went out and he had to use a bull horn till power came back. Too many gratuitous "f" bombs, but overall the act was great! He's still got it!

  • Tim Allen was great

Seeing Tim Allen live was great. Tim came on stage about half hour after the opeining comic and started off slow but quickly rebounded and was great. The funniest part of the show is when there was a false fire alarm which disabled the microphone Tim was given a bullhorn to continue the show and as soon as he started using it he started laughing himself saying "what the hell am I suppose to do with this?" he then went on to use it brilliantly making jokes with it untill the alarm was off and the microphone came back on. I would recomend seeing him if you haven't yet. The only downside to the show was he was only on for about an hour and I would of liked to see him be on for a bit longer.

Tim was excellent... he improvised when the power went out and made for a memorable evening. I would definitely recommend his performance. That said, the seats at the Sound Board in the Motor City Casino were very poor due to the design of the facility (could not see), which will eliminate this venue for me in the future.

  • Tim Allen was ok

Tim Allen was ok. Thought he would be better though. Thought the floor seating should be angled so you can see better.

  • Tim Allen had too much fun at Tiger opener.

by wingfans on 4/10/10Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

It seemed like it took him some time to get going. The security lights went on and microphone went off in the middle of act. He tried to keep things going, but obviously hard to do when the audience couldn't hear him. When everything was back on, he actually got better but then, it was over.

  • Tim Allen At MotorCity Casino

by DBrules on 4/10/10Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Tim Allen was terrific! Even when the lights came on the venue due to a security issue and the sound system stopped. Tim just shouted his stuff, and then he was handed a mega phone. After a few more minutes, the lights and sound systems were restored. He is must see!

  • Short set

by MikeIndetroit on 4/10/10Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

Fire alarm went off. Sound went out. Long wait before it came back on. Less then an hour on stage. Not worth the price. Funny but needs a longer set.

Tim was not funny -- his opening act was hilarious!

  • Fantastic show, even the fire alarms went off

by erickaltz on 4/10/10Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great, the opening act was very funny and I am looking forward to more from him. Tim was very funny through the entire show. Even the fire alram went off and the mic cut off, but instead of getting off the stage, he continued to make the most of it. He would shout for everyone to hear him and do jokes that weren't even part of his normal act. They even got a megaphone out for him and he just kept it going. The mic was off for about 10 mins and as soon as the mic turned back on, he kept going wit his normal act. I rate this show 5 stars, 2 thumbs up. I cannot wait to see him again one day.

  • Excellent Show

by MichiganLover on 4/10/10Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 5 out of 5

Tim Allen will always be the best comedian there is! There was a ten minute pause where the alarm went off and messed the show up but Tim handled it great.

  • Tim Allen was hilarious

Not only was Tim funny, but we thought the 'warm-up' comedian was funny too. Even when someone opened the wrong 'fire' door and the lights came on and mic shut off, Tim was great. He had to improvise a little and we still laughed. When the lights came back on, he got right back on track. The only problem I had with the whole evening was finding the 'Sound Board' in the casino. It was our first time there and we weren't sure where we were going. But once there...all was well. We loved it.
