About

THUNDERCAT IN CONCERT:

Genre-spanning bassist, singer, and producer Thundercat is known for keeping audiences on their toes with his head-spinning variety and eclecticism. From skittering fusion and squelching funk to synth-laden electro, one thing remains constant in his music -- his virtuosic bass playing. He's a true master of the instrument and it provides the backbone for his diverse sound, tying songs like "Oh Sheit It's X" and "Walkin'" together despite their markedly different vibes. In 2014 Thundercat provided tour support to his longtime collaborator Flying Lotus, and his stellar performances and futuristic stage wear on the road proved he's as impressive in concert as he is in the studio.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Los Angeles-born multi-talent Thundercat, a.k.a Stephen Bruner, fell in love with bass at an early age. In his teens he became the bassist of iconic LA thrash band Suicidal Tendencies, whose lineup also included his brother Ronald Jr. on drums. By the mid-'00s he was a sought-after session player, appearing on acclaimed albums by Erykah Badu and his Brainfeeder label mate Flying Lotus. Bruner made his solo debut as Thundercat in 2011 with the album The Golden Age of Apocalypse, a kaleidoscopic slice of bass-heavy fusion and electro that was a huge critical success. Following buzzworthy appearances at festivals like Coachella and Austin City Limits, he released his 2013 sophomore album Apocalypse to another round of critical praise.  A seasoned performer known for his mean bass playing and outré stagewear, Thundercat continues to get ticket buyers moving and shaking on his must-see tours.

by Aylicia on 11/19/21The Pageant - St Louis

Everything from the opening act to the main event was great. Channel Tres opened the show up with some great House Music DJ'ing. People were dancing. The vibe, energy, and showmanship was great. Everyone knew the assignment. Will gladly pay to see another Thundercat performance in the future.

    Incredible performer and artist. Electrifying.

    by T. J. on 11/10/21

Incredible show. Thundercat would play the song from his album, then extend it by jamming out for the next 5 minutes. This would happen over the course of two hours. Was in the front row, and Thundercat shouted me out multiple times, saying he loved my shirt, and kept staring at me with a funny face. His personality really shines in between songs. He is incredible on the bass, and his backup drummer and keyboard players were electric. Thundercat is legit a Prince-tier performer. Dont miss him if you get to see him.

    Great virtuosity, but...

by M. W. on 11/10/21House of Blues Boston - Boston

Thundercat is an amazing and important musician who serves as a bridge between jazz fusion of the 1970s and hip hop. At this show the pace was almost always super fast and the virtuoso soling was endless. I was wishing for a few more melodic and harmonic touches and funky grooves which Thundercat is certainly capable. I kept want more of him to slow it down and sing/groove with us a little.

    Waste of money

by Justin on 11/7/21The Fillmore Philadelphia - Philadelphia

This show was terrible. None of the songs played sounded remotely like anything released from the artist. I left early and felt like I wasted money on this event.

A very entertaining and magical night with THUNDERCAT.

by Daxavier Josiah on 11/7/21The Fillmore Philadelphia - Philadelphia

This concert did not disappoint one bit. It felt like time and all that is going on around the world stopped as many of us at the Fillmore enjoyed one of the most outstanding recording artist and bass players today put on a fun and fantastic show for Philly. Running down songs from his latest album and just killing it on stage made for a night to remember.

    Great show, sound was okay

    by m. b. on 3/12/20The Observatory - Santa Ana

Loved seeing Thundercat! Everyone in the band is super talented. The sound at the venue wasn’t the best, the base was too laid and made it hard to hear the vocals. Otherwise great.
