THUNDERCAT IN CONCERT:

Genre-spanning bassist, singer, and producer Thundercat is known for keeping audiences on their toes with his head-spinning variety and eclecticism. From skittering fusion and squelching funk to synth-laden electro, one thing remains constant in his music -- his virtuosic bass playing. He's a true master of the instrument and it provides the backbone for his diverse sound, tying songs like "Oh Sheit It's X" and "Walkin'" together despite their markedly different vibes. In 2014 Thundercat provided tour support to his longtime collaborator Flying Lotus, and his stellar performances and futuristic stage wear on the road proved he's as impressive in concert as he is in the studio.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Los Angeles-born multi-talent Thundercat, a.k.a Stephen Bruner, fell in love with bass at an early age. In his teens he became the bassist of iconic LA thrash band Suicidal Tendencies, whose lineup also included his brother Ronald Jr. on drums. By the mid-'00s he was a sought-after session player, appearing on acclaimed albums by Erykah Badu and his Brainfeeder label mate Flying Lotus. Bruner made his solo debut as Thundercat in 2011 with the album The Golden Age of Apocalypse, a kaleidoscopic slice of bass-heavy fusion and electro that was a huge critical success. Following buzzworthy appearances at festivals like Coachella and Austin City Limits, he released his 2013 sophomore album Apocalypse to another round of critical praise.  A seasoned performer known for his mean bass playing and outré stagewear, Thundercat continues to get ticket buyers moving and shaking on his must-see tours.

    AWESOME JAM SESSION!!!

by Brandon Wiggleton on 10/30/23South Side Ballroom - Dallas

Thundercat had us jamming from the very first song. I enjoyed how he interacted with crowd as well as the Bass solos, had me on the edge the whole show. Wish I could rewind times and do it all over again definitely will in attendance whenever he comes back to Dallas.

    Thundetcat? More like Thundertiger

by Q'DTeku on 10/27/23Stubb's Waller Creek Amphitheater - Austin

The fact that Thundercat started off with Dragon ball Du-rag, you just knew it was going to be an awesome show. You felt the rock, rhythm, and beat rock your soul with his bass solos, and his drummer's drum solo. If your not having fun at a Thundercat concert then you are doing something wrong.

by Sardina on 10/25/23Coca-Cola Roxy - Atlanta

This man knows how to work a crowd. Awesome show, super psyched for every song, singing and dancing along even though i’m normally super shy. Great fans that look out for each-other and just vibe. The coca cola roxy is such a chill venue as well. A guy near us had medical emergency and staff responded so fast too. Will definitely buy tickets again next time he comes to town!!

    That bass was bassing

by Nay on 10/25/23Coca-Cola Roxy - Atlanta

This was my 3rd Thundercat show and I think it was my favorite. I'm used to him just playing the songs with little variations from the studio versions. But at this show it just felt like he enjoyed the music and got lost in it. It was a great sight to behold. I love when passion takes over and we just get immersed in their talent. And thats what this show felt like.

Didn"t like the performance as much as I thought I would. More than likely it was just me but I wasn't too into the songs being played live.

If you like anime/gamer songs… GO …If you like a modern and unique style of jazz without the saxophonist (because that is my interpretation of his jam session music)… GO…… Just go and see for yourself and have a GREAT TIME!

Fun show, big hits+mucho Thundercat solos.

    by Leo on 10/22/23

Pretty cool to get a Thundercat show on Thundercat"s bday. The Anthem in DC is a nice venue. Thundercat always delivers and connects with the audience. 2nd time I've seen him on a weekday night. Being tired at work...worth it.. He's a generational talent. He did all the big hits at Anthem. About half of them at 930 when I saw him during covid. 1/2 of the show is him and his band soloing, having fun. I like that they make it up as they go, or pretend to. He asked his band mates what should we play next. He asked the audience too. A woman in the audience was twirling a red Ruskie winter type hat then threw it to him. And he caught it and wore it for the rest of the show. Was that staged? The hat coordinated perfectly with his outfit. Who knows. A really good, fun show.
