About

Thom Yorke In Concert

Thom Yorke has never just been Radiohead's frontman. The English maestro of melancholy, gifted with an indelible, otherworldly falsetto, has always had much more up his sleeve. Since his career launched in the early 1990s, he's survived grunge, helped reinvent alternative rock, and brought experimental electronic and IDM music to the mainstream. He has been an innovator and influencer for decades, with and without his bandmates. And he's one of the most electric live artists to come out of the '90s alternative scene—his dancing is as unforgettable as his singing.

Yorke first stepped away from Radiohead to cover Roxy Music songs for the soundtrack to the 1998 film ‘Velvet Goldmine,' and he lent his vocals to tracks with artists like Unkle, Sparklehorse, PJ Harvey, and Björk. By the turn of the century, he started diving more into electronic music, which was nothing entirely new for Yorke—he had actually dabbled with techno as a student at the University of Exeter. But this time around, he looked to IDM innovators like Aphex Twin and Autechre for inspiration, which showed plenty on Radiohead's acclaimed albums ‘Kid A' and ‘Amnesiac.' These influences would continue to sit with Yorke, who finally put out his own collection of dark, poignant electronic music with his 2006 debut solo album, ‘The Eraser.' The album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and topped several other charts, including the Billboard Top Rock Albums and Tastemaker Albums, with help from stark, skittery singles "Analyse" and "Black Swan." It was also nominated for the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.

A few years later, Yorke took a song from that very album—"Atoms for Peace"—as inspiration for the name of his new band, which included longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea, drummer Joey Waronker, and percussionist Mauro Refosco. The group first took to the stage in Los Angeles in 2009 and performed select shows, including an appearance at Coachella in 2010, before releasing ‘Amok' in 2013.

Another few years and another Radiohead album down, Yorke would finally release his second solo electronic album in 2014, ‘Tomorrow's Modern Boxes,' this time via BitTorrent, where it was downloaded over a million times in under a week. Soon after, he began dipping into soundtrack work and composed his first feature film soundtrack for the 2018 horror film ‘Suspiria.' In between all this work, Yorke has been known to do surprise DJ sets, but there's still nothing quite like seeing him perform his own songs.

    Mostly thumbs up

by Franko on 9/30/19Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

to the concert was super fast and painless. The add on parking pass was a disappointment. Scanning my parking pass from phone didn’t work going in or out and required calling an attendant over. Also the price of the parking pass was triple the cost of the flat rate at the time. The venue and the concert itself were amazing!!

The most amazing concert experience I have had

by Marc on 9/30/19Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

I have seen some amazing shows including Radiohead and Sigur Ros. It is hard to compare this type of art but this concert was a standout in my memory as being one of the most immersive visual and sound journeys I have gone on. Compared to Radiohead touring after releasing A Moon Shaped Pool (which was amazing and probably in my top 3 live shows), Thom Yorke's Tomorrow's Modern Boxes show was highly energetic, full of amazing synthesized beats, and encompassed by a mesmerizing visual display that fit perfectly with the themes and tone of each song. The music almost never stopped with songs transitioning into each other. This felt like the most artistic and classy EDM rave headed up by the beautiful vocals and artistic vision of Thom Yorke. We had seats which were great for comfort but after a few songs I couldn't help but get a little jealous of the people on the floor who could dance their hearts out to these incredible live renditions of Tomorrow's Modern Boxes and other iconic tracks from Thom's solo works. I was dancing in my seat as much as I could without being rude to the people right next to me. I would absolutely see this same exact show again. It was that good.

Show was alright - just not what i was expecting

by Old Rickster on 9/30/19Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

I went to the show mainly because it was a Friday night out with a couple of buddies and we all love Radiohead. Even though Thom's music is very different from his band work I thought I would enjoy the show more. It was very "techno" heavy and not my speed. The audience around me seemed to be having a good time so I will chalk it up to it not being my "cup of tea".

Thom is amazing, leaving the parking garage was not

    by J on 9/30/19Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

It seems that the garage that held the parking did not allow the barcodes to be scanned to exit. Another person in front of me had the same problem and I think she used a different vendor. We both had to cal security and wait till they picked up. There was no problem scanning to get into to the garage. It was easy to get into the event as well .8 appreciated the address being on the Parking pass.

    Pretty, pretty good

by DT on 12/26/18Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

Strong start, set kinda dragged in the middle. Flea rocking out in the audience and then later on stage was hilarious. Thom Yorke's dance moves never get old. Great sound at the Orpheum. Stage looked like an Apple store. "EDM for 50 year olds" - my gf

Yorke and co dazzles the Vegas audience

by Hallawayjoe on 12/25/18The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las Vegas

An audience of hungry locals and visiting fans.... Yorke and crew gave us art, dance, beauty, truth.... And the hunger for a Radiohead weekend in Vegas is even higher... But Yorke teased us with his dreamy electronica...which is brilliant in its own right... His voice among the most interesting in the broad field of popular music.

    What a moving performance

by JohnJ on 12/25/18The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas - Las Vegas

I’ve seen Radiohead many times and they’ve all been great, some better than others. One of my top most loved bands for sure. This show with Thom Yorke solo was simply amazing. You looked so happy and into what he was doing. It was truly touching to be able to experience this show. The venue was amazing as well, very small with excellent sound. 2 encores, 1 of which started with Slient Night and morphed into Reckoner. He jammed on the bass, guitar, keyboard and dj equipment. Thank you so so much for this show Thom. Truly touching.

    Theater Art

by Cp on 12/22/18Orpheum Theatre - Los Angeles

Thoms use of semiosis was clear to me, although I wasn’t able to put everything together until I got home. And I do believe at least half the audience was caught in the illusion. Nonetheless, considering the vocals were “low in the mix”, I had a very pleasant evening. Visuals were incredible, and the sound was a B+ ...

    Captivated from start to finish

by M.M. on 12/18/18Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

Had the worst seats in the house (bought the tickets last minute). I was really amazed by the show, from the sound to the lighting. It has been a long time since I have seen a show that good. I would go again in a heart beat and will be sure to get better tickets next time.

    Absolutely Mind Blowing

by J.math on 12/18/18Bill Graham Civic Auditorium - San Francisco

This was one of the best shows, if not the best show, I have ever seen. Thom Yorke was incredible and he signed things and met fans after the show, which was completely unexpected and really amazing of him to do. The venue was also great; there were multiple bars and merch booths, which help to spread out the crowd, and bathrooms were easily accessible and clean.
