About

Thom Yorke In Concert

Thom Yorke has never just been Radiohead's frontman. The English maestro of melancholy, gifted with an indelible, otherworldly falsetto, has always had much more up his sleeve. Since his career launched in the early 1990s, he's survived grunge, helped reinvent alternative rock, and brought experimental electronic and IDM music to the mainstream. He has been an innovator and influencer for decades, with and without his bandmates. And he's one of the most electric live artists to come out of the '90s alternative scene—his dancing is as unforgettable as his singing.

Yorke first stepped away from Radiohead to cover Roxy Music songs for the soundtrack to the 1998 film ‘Velvet Goldmine,' and he lent his vocals to tracks with artists like Unkle, Sparklehorse, PJ Harvey, and Björk. By the turn of the century, he started diving more into electronic music, which was nothing entirely new for Yorke—he had actually dabbled with techno as a student at the University of Exeter. But this time around, he looked to IDM innovators like Aphex Twin and Autechre for inspiration, which showed plenty on Radiohead's acclaimed albums ‘Kid A' and ‘Amnesiac.' These influences would continue to sit with Yorke, who finally put out his own collection of dark, poignant electronic music with his 2006 debut solo album, ‘The Eraser.' The album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and topped several other charts, including the Billboard Top Rock Albums and Tastemaker Albums, with help from stark, skittery singles "Analyse" and "Black Swan." It was also nominated for the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.

A few years later, Yorke took a song from that very album—"Atoms for Peace"—as inspiration for the name of his new band, which included longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea, drummer Joey Waronker, and percussionist Mauro Refosco. The group first took to the stage in Los Angeles in 2009 and performed select shows, including an appearance at Coachella in 2010, before releasing ‘Amok' in 2013.

Another few years and another Radiohead album down, Yorke would finally release his second solo electronic album in 2014, ‘Tomorrow's Modern Boxes,' this time via BitTorrent, where it was downloaded over a million times in under a week. Soon after, he began dipping into soundtrack work and composed his first feature film soundtrack for the 2018 horror film ‘Suspiria.' In between all this work, Yorke has been known to do surprise DJ sets, but there's still nothing quite like seeing him perform his own songs.

    Audio/Visualgasm

    by M. H. on 10/23/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

The music was absolutely incredible, but the visuals definitely made the show so much better. They were perfectly synced and helped the music tell a story that could have gotten lost otherwise. I would highly recommend catching this tour since it is a rare occasion. It something very special. I also recommend something to heighten your senses. They will be well rewarded.

    Wonderful

by C. Price on 10/23/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

It was great to see Thom Yorke! I loved all the music and the visuals behind were cool. I am a huge Radiohead fan, but love Thom Yorke's solo stuff too. He put on an entertaining and artistic show. The Paramount was also a beautiful and more intimate venue. Wonderful experience!

    Amazing

    by Sweetpete408 on 10/22/19Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

By far one of the most talented singer/songwriters of our time. Everytime Thom comes to the bay its so powerful! His voice is hauntingly beautiful. This time i was close to the stage. So i was able to see him bounce around to different instuments. He has so much energy and his heart and soul pour out for everyone to hear. If you get a chance to see him do so! It was quite an experience for both my brother and I. Best show of 2019

    Good performance terrible venue location

by Rzlive on 10/21/19Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

If you decide to have a show at a venue, you'd better think about things like parking for the audience. Also, if the ticket to the show costs $50 at most, you can't charge $30 for the parking lot next to the show! What the hell has happened to the music industry and the artists? For God's sake, be decent!

    Show of a lifetime

by Triphophead on 10/21/19Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Thom and crew redefine trip hop for a new generation, showing there is still much to explore in the mind and space bending genre.

by Mel on 10/21/19Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

Full of surprises. Intense. The entire crowd was in sync and in awe. A collective wow. I’ve been to a lot of shows, this is as good as it gets.

    Another incredible show

by BlimpLimp on 10/21/19Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - Berkeley

3rd Thom Yorke show I attended 3rd year in a row. He sang beautifully, love the new songs, there are still some songs I want to hear live but haven’t yet. The Greek in Berkeley is one of my favorite venues, and he said he loves performing there so hopefully he will next year.

New Orleans might have ruined it...

by ali on 10/16/19Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New Orleans

Thom Yorke was absolutely incredible. I have zero complaints about him, that's why this gets 3 stars instead of 1. The opening act was cool, but he had lights that blinded us and were impossible to look at. Strobing lights that should never have been used in this setting and pointing at a crowd. That was already annoying. Also this is a Thom Yorke concert at a seated venue, ambient, chill music and psychedelic visuals [which, his looked great, dual projectors] -- this was NOT A ROCK concert. It was very annoying that people felt like they needed to stand up. The whole pit stood up, I get that. From where we were sitting, a little higher up on the floor but on an incline, we could still see fine over their heads. But THEN, the two people in front of us [only ones in our section to do this] decided to stand up and did so for the entire time. We could barely see and I had to lean to do so which was uncomfortable. The venue has super uncomfortable seating BTW. I don't understand how a venue allows people to stand in a seated show such as this. Like I said it was not the kind of show to stand up and dance, but friggin NEW ORLEANS. I've lived here all my life so I guess I should have expected this, but people can't just relax and enjoy a show. Everything has to be a party to these people. I really think other humans just ruined this whole thing for me. Also the venue in general kinda sucked. There are two big doors on either side of the seating area and they have big bright light coming in every time they open which was almost the entire time and definitely took away from the atmosphere and vibe. It just sucked. I wish that I could have seen Thom in a quiet, respectful room -- but that didn't happen.

by B. L. on 10/12/19Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts - New Orleans

Thom Yorke is a uniquely talented artist. His music is beautiful. The light show was amazing. Well put together show. I would definitely see him again. After the show I was able to meet him and get an autograph. Absolutely surprised and in awe that I was absolutely able to meet a musician of his caliber!!! Star struck!

    Superb

by JHerrera on 10/5/19EXPRESS LIVE! - Columbus

Loved Thom Yorke s voice, impeccable, but i did feel the venue was too little but i assume that also gives u a more personal experience. The merch was a bit pricey but loved the affordable ticket price! Compared to other artists of his stature

Thom was sublime/venue was just fine

by thepickintheice on 10/3/19STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

Really long and slow moving line to enter venue. Took about 20 minutes from arrival to entry. At that point was too late to buy a drink, food, or merch. Disappointing. Very slow process to exit as well, made me wonder what would’ve happened had their been an unfortunate emergency. Show was fantastic. My third time seeing this group in the last year, each one better than the last.

    Be Prepared to Wait...

    by M. S. on 10/2/19STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

Doors were at 7pm, we got there around 8pm and still had to wait around the block to get in... nearly 30 minutes in line. Took another 20 minutes to get drinks. Place was oversold, we’re both over 6 feet tall and could barely see from 2/3 way back in the crowd. This venue needs new management.

Fantastic show! We were so close it was amazing!

by Jesse on 10/1/19Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

The opening act Andrew Belfi was unexpected but fantastic. Very hypnotic. Then Thom Yorke played and was completely in the zone. Couldn't have asked for a better experience!

    Great show, but....

    by Montresor72 on 9/30/19Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Great show, but a more intimate venue would have been better. Busy arena setting was not optimal.

    Great energy

by Neloiza on 9/30/19Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

It was a really great show. Uplifting music. Thom dances and sings with such joy and dedication that you cannot help but dance and sing yourself :) The background lighting gave a great additional atmosphere. The timing was perfect - as announced, without much delay. Very much appreciated.
