    Well run- diverse festival

by DK on 8/29/22Fort Worden - Port Townsend

This was one of the most well-run festivals I’ve ever attended. What I loved: -the venue. What a fantastic and scenic venue. Plenty of room to spread out and the stages didn’t over power each other. - the food. Better than typical “fair food” - legitimate food vendors with great dishes (hats off to paella house). - staff was extremely nice and helpful - the sound was perfect. What could be better: - Beer Tents- lines were long and really only need one additional tent per stage. - Bands. We came to see Father John Misty (he KILLED) but would have stuck around Sat/Sunday if there were some more mainstream acts. That said, I realize that is the “thing”- diversity of acts- but maybe look at younger local acts vs aging/retro acts.

    Best Festival of the Year!

by J. on 9/2/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

Great variety of art, spoken word and music. Loved the layout, crowd size, and ease of travel to the event location. Friendly staff and great real time communication. Excellent job! Already planning for next year!

    Awesome Festival

    by K. B. on 8/29/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

THING was a great experience! A great mix of old favorites and some incredible new-to-me artists. My only not-happy time was the long wait at will call the first day, and the even longer wait for beer tickets. (I arrived to the festival @2pm on Saturday). I bought camping, but didn't use it, ended up staying with friends who had snagged a rental before tix were on sale, so I can't really comment on that. Hope THING happens next year! Hope it doesn't get big; it was a lovely, manageable size. Thanks!

    Great weekend

Perfect setting, chill crowd, good food and beer, and, of course, great music. 10/10 will return.

    Awesome festival!

by M. on 8/28/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

It certainly helps a rookie festival when its organizers are seasoned veterans, but Thing surpassed expectations. My only gripe was what I thought was an unnecessarily long walk between the two outdoor stages. Maybe without the Luminarium next year, the Parade Grounds stage could be moved further west. Or, there could be a 5 minute gap between when sets stop and start so festival attendees don’t have to leave early in order to see the start of another band’s set.

Generally good impressions from Thing event

    by C. L. on 8/28/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

The Thing event was generally well done. It was organized, the bands performed per schedule, the crowds were orderly, people seemed to be having a good time, and the staff people were all friendly and helpful. The music lineup was pretty strong, although I can always wish for some of my favorite touring artists. There was no one I really looked forward to seeing, although I enjoyed almost all of it. We camped at the county park, which worked out pretty well. However, there was no normal camping conventions heeded, such as being quiet after hours. Take earplugs if you want to sleep! A few things that could be improved: Food: I only tried one item from the food trucks. It was a sandwich that had been prepared hours or days before I got it. Cold, clammy, and flavorless for $8.00. Yuck. Picnic Tables: Put some tables near the food trucks! Water: No water that I could find, although the maps showed water stations that weren't there. On the first day the info booths had no idea where to get water either. Shuttle: I thought the literature said there would be a shuttle bus. None in sight. The walk back to the campground at night wasn't too bad, but I would have taken a ride back at night if available. Also, it was very dark in places walking back and brought a flashlight the second night. Volume: Band volume was generally good, but too loud on occasion. However, the between band recorded music was also very loud. Turn it down - it's background music! People want to talk between sets.

    Great 1st year!

by Sherayray on 8/28/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

All-in-all a great first year for the festival. Some Logistical fun at initial gate entry and for drink tickets. A couple of scheduling hiccups for bands (i.e. John C Reilly and friends started late and overlapped with De La Soul and they were adjacent venues so there was a little disruption at the end of Reilly's set) Aside from that the lineup was amazing and there were a number of pleasant surprises along the way. Fort Worden was a great overall venue and the weather cooperated quite nicely. We RV camped at the Fair Grounds and the location and transit back and forth was quick and easy. We brought bikes which made it easy and fun. We will be back next year for sure.

Music and other performances were great! Wonderful setting.

by Bestie on 8/28/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

There were some organization issues that need to be worked out. I don't know if typical of music festivals, but sometimes the timing on the start of the outdoor concerts were competing with the quieter indoor events. Line for will call was a problem the first day, as were some of the "lines" to get into the indoor event. I thought the line up was fantastic! Discovered bands I haven't heard before and absolutely loved (Reilly Walker, Orville Peck). We really enjoyed the variety--Natasha Lyonne's film, Tobolowsky Files and Beautiful Anonymous were so fun. Wish I could have stayed up late enough for the live readings each night but had to drive home. Crowd was just great, all ages and seemed like everyone was having a great time. Will definitely come back next year!

    Fabulous for all ages

by swenz on 8/28/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

Everything about this festival was delightful. Great music, gorgeous venue, small crowds, good local food... Refreshing to attend a festival where all ages are represented. From babies to grannies in wheelchairs. The small crowds made the whole event feel magical. Please keep doing this — and please continue to keep it small. A wonderful addition to the WA music scene.

    Fun Thing

by DH on 8/28/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

We enjoyed every act we saw and really liked the food. The premium parking was not worth the cost because the shuttle did not stop anywhere close to the lot.

    Fun with Hiccups

    by E. C. on 8/28/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

Fun festival with some expected first year hiccups. The Will Call line was insanely long - friends waited 1.5 hours just to get their wristband! I also missed an MC to keep the crowd informed. Still not sure what happened to Cafe Tacuba. But the caliber of the music was high and it was a beautiful venue. There was plenty to do besides music - acrobats, pie eating contests, the Luminarium and more. I'll definitely go next year.

    THING experience

by J.C. on 8/28/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

Overall, smoothly run for a first time event. A music genre sampling all over the map, so something for everyone. Good sound. Camping was crowded, but sufficient. An overall mellow vibe and I would consider coming again next year.

    Amazing Festival

by CTY on 8/28/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

Hope this becomes an annual event. line-up of headliners (too many to mention here -- and if you think rock and roll is dead, you are dead wrong) but also a lot of other fun stuff -- readings, poetry, arts & crafts market, great food (but could have used more food trucks as lines were often too long).

    Mostly good

    by D. N. on 8/28/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

Frustrated about no cell phone service. Some events ran late and that messed up seeing other events. Drink lines (tickets) too long. Concerts were fun. Liked having comedians mixed in with music options. Luminarium was great. Great to see all the people using the space at Ft. Worden. Shuttles were a little strange

    Beautiful location

by Denielle on 8/28/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

This event was really fun! The stages were placed well, Port Townsend is beautiful, and there was a great lineup! There could be some improvements in a few areas-- the drink ticket line was way too long always, the night market wasn't really open at night, and there could be a little more to do during downtime between shows. We really enjoyed the lantern parade and the Luminarium! Lots of things to do for families! Camping was really tight, but it worked out well!

    Well Run

by mama on 8/28/19Fort Worden - Port Townsend

Thing was a fantastic festival. Excellent performances. Perfect venue~ beautiful and the right size for the number of people. Clean with good food and drink choices. Family friendly. Maybe add one more drink ticket booth and figure out a way to compost food and reduce waste overall. Can't wait until next year.
