Went to see the revamped Thin Lizzy last night in Detroit. What a show, the current lineup includes original drummer Brian Downey, original guitarist Scott Gorham, guitarist Vivian Campbell (Def Leppard/DIO), bassist Marco Mendoza (Whitesnake, Ted Nugent), singer Ricky Warwick and keyboardist Darren Wharton (latter years Thin Lizzy). Personally, I am a professional guitarist with 31 years playing experience, I was hoping for some good guitar work (Les Paul heaven) and not much else; but I was pleasantly surprised. The singer really held his own, and worked the crowd very, very well-he's from Dublin, so the Irish accent helped-I think. The bass player was exceptional and really played Phil's parts perfectly. I can honestly say this band jelled very well and of course Vivian's playing was incredible. He absolutely nailed Gary Moore's solo in Black Rose and if you are familiar with that song you know what a killer solo he did in that. The guitar harmonies were just spot on, I ended up in the front row against the stage, got to shake Scott Gorham's hand and he gave me a guitar pick-really cool. Wish the camera worked better in low light but I got a few good shots and some video. I haven't seen this professional a group in years, they, just tore it up. I really can say I got more than my monies worth. They are done with North America, but heading back to Europe for the second leg of the tour. If gas wasn't as expensive as it is, I would have gotten tickets to the final show in Chicago and gone, I enjoyed it that much.
