About

THIEVERY CORPORATION IN CONCERT:

Lounge and electronica collective Thievery Corporation capture the sleek sounds of the international set with their chilled-out beats, worldly sonic palette, and lush synthscapes. Their mesmerizing and eclectic mix of bossa nova, acid jazz, trip hop, and a host of other genres had crate-diggers drooling with jealousy between sets at their 2013 shows, reminding fans just why they're one of downtempo's most beloved acts. With a highly anticipated new album due out in 2014, Thievery Corporation are set to blow minds once again on their upcoming North American tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Washington, DC's Rob Garza and Eric Hilton formed Thievery Corporation in 1995 as an outlet for their shared love of acid jazz, dub reggae, and Brazilian musical traditions. Using Hilton's Eighteenth Street Lounge as a base of operations, their early mixing sessions were a huge success, resulting in their 1997 debut album Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi. While the album was a minor success, it was their second record, The Mirror Conspiracy, that really put them on the map, led by the sweltering single "Lebanese Blond." Since then, they have continued to pioneer new directions in downtempo, headlining some of the world's biggest festivals and establishing themselves as legends of the genre.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"So talented and entertaining. Definitely worth seeing them live again soon."

"Absolutely rocked the place. Collaboration of old tunes with new and energetic stuff made it so special and enjoyable. The place was jamming! Loved it!"

"This is the third time I've seen Thievery Corporation and I must say they are one of the BEST live acts I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. If you have not seen them live you are doing yourself a horrible disservice."

  • Thievery Corporation never fails to impress

    by mystyk23 on 10/22/13Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This is the third time I've seen Thievery Corporation and I must say they are one of the BEST live acts I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I especially liked this performance because they performed a lot of their lesser known songs, and performed them with a more Trip-Hop/Dub sound and feel to it. If you have not seen them live you are doing yourself a horrible disservice.

  • Would pay even more for a show like this!

    by Anonymous on 10/2/13Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was absolutely perfect. Not too loud but still in your face, Thievery Corp managed to get my sober self dancing through the whole show! Absolute awesome crowd as well. Everyone clearly enjoyed the show.

I loved the show! Good music, good vibes. I also loved Morcheeba and Afrolicious was so energetic.

  • Awesome, as usual.

Morcheeba was great, but Thievery blows my mind every time. Highly recommended.

  • Thievery Corp, and Morcheeba! Wow!

    by raadler on 9/25/13Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

A truly wonderful experience, the Greek theater was a great dropback to Superb performances by the mesmerizing Skye Edwards of Morcheeba, and always great show with Thievery Corp. Spot on sounds, and we got to dance all night in front, with 5000 or so of our new friends. Afrolicious also was great, very good lineup. I think Morcheeba moreso was my favorite, as Skye is stunning to look at, stylish and carries herself so well, and musicians Ross Godfrey, Paul Godfrey, Daisy Martey were meticulous, and really enjoyed all the songs. Thievery Corporation did not disappoint, the visuals were not as appealing as Skye, but their own brand of presence with all the different, singers bringing it on full, costumes and sounds thunderous bass, drums and amazing guitar and sitar, really wowing the crowd. Played a nice long set, would have been cooler to have all of the Musicans and bands get together for a finale...oh well, no one asked me to produce the event. Peace in.

  • Morcheeba rocked

    by NVMSF on 9/25/13Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 4 out of 5

Loved Morcheeba who opened for TC. Lead singer's voice like a soft velvet covering the entire theater. What amazing stage presence. Opening band Afrolicious also really fun and lively. I'm a huge fan of Thievery Corporation music for years but they were not as impressive live to watch. Vocalists varied considerably. The female vocalists' voices just didn't project well and they lacked stage presence/interest. Media/video element could have been more interesting too. Male hip-hop artists were great though. But a great venue, great audience, great music so no major complaints here.

  • thievery always great!

Good music, environment and great crowd! the Greek theater was shining with thievery and its singers!

  • Theivery Corporation stole my soul for the night!!

by SnoopyinLBC on 9/25/13Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I hardly ever write reviews. In fact, this is the first review I've ever wrtitten. But after seeing Theivery Corp and Morcheeba last Friday at the Greek, I had to. I've been going to concerts and watching live music for 30 years. Ive seen everyone from BB King to Pavoratti, from Janes Addiction to Ozzy....I have never been moved by live music the way I was Friday night. Besides the sound being amazing, the music was so diverse and soul shaking. Ive been a fan of both bands for years, but seeing them live has changed my perspective on them. Truely amazing.

  • UNFORGETTABLE!!!

    by Superlagger on 9/25/13Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

One of the best shows I've seen this year (and I've seen a lot). Morcheeba was more amazing than I could have imagined and Thievery Corporation exceeded every expectation I had... got there a little late and only saw a bit of Afrolicious, and they were really good as well... anyone who likes music should catch this tour!!!

Amazing concert. The only thing is that I wish we knew that the opening groups will be playing half of the concert. The main part started more than 2 hours after the beginning. By that time, half of the audience was intoxicated and super excited to sing and dance with the group. It was fun open air / club concert :)

  • A bit disappointing

    by Mentor09 on 9/25/13Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

The normal energy of Morcheeba just wasn't there. Thievery Corp set the mood perfectly. Still pretty disappointed with the venue not allowing outside drinks and food as other venues do. Prices for their vendors are outrageous for the quality and quantity of what you get.

went to the greek theatre and it was amazing to see them there. Just awesome!

  • Morcheeba and Thievery shine at The Greek!

  • good while it lasted

    by 1StokedDrew on 9/25/13Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 2 out of 5

I have seen morcheeba and thievery corporation several times, in several different types of venues. I really enjoyed the open vibe of the Greek theatre. As far as the entertainment, thievery was sounding great and had brilliant energy for the hour that they played. Then they ended a song, a song which should not have been their last, and then ran off the stage not to return. It was anti-climatic and I felt very let down by the experience.

  • Fantastic concert!

by ispin on 9/25/13Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Morcheeba and Thievery Corp were both great and full of energy! We were waiting for an encore but unfortunately for the first time in my concert history, there wasn't one. The Greek has ample parking, stacked or regular. It's easy to exit out of the theatre from your seats as well as exiting the parking areas.

  • Thievery were great but set too short

    by Chicken222 on 9/25/13Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

Loved the setup and atmosphere and of course the band but Thievery Corp only played for about an hour. For the price I'd like to see at least 90 mins. Especially with a band this big and such a large catalogue.

  • Thievery hijacked!

by wineswiller on 9/25/13Greek Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

When I listen to Thievery Corporation I think hip techno with a middle eastern twist with some groovy beats and that is what we got for two songs at the beginning. Then it was as if the band was hijacked by rappers and reggae crooners. Dont get me wrong but if I wanted to listen to that kind of music I wouldn't go to Thievery. The music was good but I firmly believe this band is having an identity crisis. There are plenty of good rappers and reggae bands but there was only one band that played the way Thievery use to play. The quality of the music was very good overall but the band is moving in the wrong directions with an S. BTW no encore? Really? Perhaps the band saw that the audience was disenfranchised and bailed. Who knows. Disappointing.
