About

THIEVERY CORPORATION IN CONCERT:

Lounge and electronica collective Thievery Corporation capture the sleek sounds of the international set with their chilled-out beats, worldly sonic palette, and lush synthscapes. Their mesmerizing and eclectic mix of bossa nova, acid jazz, trip hop, and a host of other genres had crate-diggers drooling with jealousy between sets at their 2013 shows, reminding fans just why they're one of downtempo's most beloved acts. With a highly anticipated new album due out in 2014, Thievery Corporation are set to blow minds once again on their upcoming North American tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Washington, DC's Rob Garza and Eric Hilton formed Thievery Corporation in 1995 as an outlet for their shared love of acid jazz, dub reggae, and Brazilian musical traditions. Using Hilton's Eighteenth Street Lounge as a base of operations, their early mixing sessions were a huge success, resulting in their 1997 debut album Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi. While the album was a minor success, it was their second record, The Mirror Conspiracy, that really put them on the map, led by the sweltering single "Lebanese Blond." Since then, they have continued to pioneer new directions in downtempo, headlining some of the world's biggest festivals and establishing themselves as legends of the genre.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"So talented and entertaining. Definitely worth seeing them live again soon."

"Absolutely rocked the place. Collaboration of old tunes with new and energetic stuff made it so special and enjoyable. The place was jamming! Loved it!"

"This is the third time I've seen Thievery Corporation and I must say they are one of the BEST live acts I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. If you have not seen them live you are doing yourself a horrible disservice."

    Thievery at the Uptown

by TimmyD on 5/31/23Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

Oh my god, this band is so explosively exciting! One singer after the next, onstage blowing the pipes like crazy! Captured us for 2 hours, after they had just played Bottle Rock. We missed Racquel not singing all of our favorites but what she sang rocked! The whole group is so good and worth attending a concert. I can’t say enough. Ok… they’re my favorite band so I’m biased. They are really nice too when you meet them! Go see them!!!

Thievery Corp brought the party Uptown!

by Dino Poortaste KRCBFM DJ on 5/30/23Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

The Uptown is a great place to see a show. They are great hosts. The sound system is killer and the sight lines are great in any seat. When Thievery hit the stage it did not take long for the audience to start the Dance and make it a Raving good time.

Good Music. Lame venue for Thievery.

by Mr Swordfish on 5/30/23Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

Napa was crazy with Bottlerock festival so parking was a nightmare. Ended up having to park in a garage that closed at Midnight. Show was a late start at 9:30 so we assumed no opening act and midnight would be fine. But we were wrong. Out came a techno-cowboy DJ with an electric guitar who explained he makes dance music and would love everyone to dance with him. It set a good mood for the night as a quirky opener. As we joined in and started dancing we were approached by an usher telling us we can't dance as we were blocking the folks behind us. No dancing at a Thievery Corporation show? This really put a downer on the night right out of the gate. Since Thievery's gear was set up behind him, I assumed they would get him on and off quickly with the late night start and wheel his DJ table off and Thievery would start playing soon. Unfortunately he went on and on with what sounded like the same song for about 45 minutes. Then it took another 20 minutes for Thievery to get on stage. The crowd woke up and defied the ushers and got dancing. Was fun. But the audience was full of people who didn't seem to really care. Half were seated and might as well have been sleeping. Nothing like having a group of people behind you trying to talk over the amplifiers trying to have a family reunion to ruin the music. Totally disrespectful to those around them and the band. We had to bail out at 11:45 to run back to get the car, so missed the end of the show. Had a few friends we carpooled with stick behind and met them at 12:15 when it ended. So we missed the final half hour. Really wish they would have skipped the techno-DJ. Think this is the last Thievery show I see for a while... maybe if I find them in an odd location like Iceland or Bangkok I'll go for a new experience, but the last three we have seen in California have been disappointing.

    Awesome band, great venue

by Ademius on 3/17/23The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Thievery Corporation has been an awesome band for many years, and their live performance was as outstanding as expected. And what made it even better was the size and comfort of the venue. This has been one of the best shows we have seen.

    Experience ruined by venue

by Rayman on 1/3/23Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

This is a great band that I previously saw live in Houston in 2019 at the House of Blues, and was looking forward to another wonderful experience. Revolution Live is a strange place - it is GA only, sprawling, and has limited views of the stage at best unless you are in one of a few places. There are two main floors - a pit which was of course packed, and the higher entry level - which is flat and even with the stage, so unless you are standing in the front, you cannot see. I called before tickets were even on sale to request ADA seating (I cannot stand for long or I will pass out). I was told, as the website states, that requesting ADA seating upon arrival will get you the assistance of staff who will find you a place. Most of the staff have no idea what to do with ADA seating, and eventually we found out that the ADA area was full. You had to get there well before the doors opened to get one of these seats. So, I would have to stand for a long time to get a seat so I wouldn't have to stand . . . Also found out that a bottle service area was there with seats but it "had been sold out for months". Eventually we ended up in a side room where a screen showed the band and piped in the music, but not the vocals. Strange and awful. I wandered into the main area once and the band sounded good but somewhat muffled, and I know they were putting out their best effort. No Revolution Live shows for me.

    Christmas weekend show

by Will S. on 12/25/229:30 CLUB - Washington

While many of us thought, “hey, they’re doing ok”, the two new members bring a vibe that sadly diminished the show for our group. They didn’t feel like the Thievery Corp that has shaped so much of my musical choices. I hope they continue to try other folks that can add that special genuine vibe that the missed members did… the void is felt. I’ve seen them every year for the past 7 years. If they keep these folks, that will most likely be my last show.
