This was my first show at the Aragon and it was awesome! I wish the opening act was a bit better so I had more motivation to arrive earlier.

    TCV are amazing!

by mrsofstc on 5/23/10Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

It was fasinating to watch these three established veterans performing this incredible music just because they love to, and they can. There is nothing left to prove or earn, other than they seem to be having a great time entertaining the world with great rock music. I feel fortunate to have witnessed the show. Not to mention their love for Chicago, their adopted home, thank you!

Them Crooked Vultures = Pure Musicianship

by Supercurlygrl on 5/21/10Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

This performance will be hard to top. All members of the band played perfectly to their instrument(s). The music was flawless, and they played together as if they had been in a band with each other for 20 years. The skill level of Grohl on drums was immaculate. Jones played a diverse set with 6 different types of instruments. Homme was an engaging front man, as usual. Out of the hundreds of concerts I have attended, I have never once reviewed a concert. This was the first one to blow me away enough for me to spend time to write a review.

    Grungy Blues

by Wing8Man on 5/21/10Murat Egyptian Room at Old National Centre - Indianapolis

John Paul Jones at the keyboard. Made the show. Dave Grohl was wilder than a turkey vulture at the drums. Grohl's performance throughout didn't fail to evoke an amateur's guide to soundwaves love. Homme strung the band together with them crooked shreds, leaps of faith, and all with a cool attitude, strumming while smoking and using his water bottle to create some new scratch sounds on his Aussie Maton. No recent performance I've been to compares with the combination of these regenerating vibes. It's vulture. It has nothing to do with their band name. The image and quality they create are strictly because of the music they have unlocked without compromising or forsaking their deep rooted love for the ever-resonating style art of blues.

    Them Crooked Vultures AWSOME!!!!

by JQ0713 on 5/21/10Murat Egyptian Room at Old National Centre - Indianapolis

I must admit, our ulterior motive for going to this concert was solely to see John Paul Jones, Being huge Zeppelin fans we were pumped just for that but WOW!!! after the concert started we were stunned at how good Them Crooked Vultures were!! JPJ was awsome on the keyboards and bass (and someother something or another instrument that I had no idea what it was) and Dave Grohl pounded the drums like a John Bonham baby brother! He hammered away on those drums like no other, we were having flashbacks to the 70s by the time we left! Ha! Ha! The other two members were just as awsome. This was two hours of sheer energy, everyone in the croud was having a great time. A small venue with standing room only just made it all the better..........back to the good ol days!!! As soon as we got home, we went on-line to get tickets to another concert but were disappointed to find that they were in Chicago the next night then off to Europe for what looked like the rest of the year. You can bet that we will be monitoring their web site and will be front row the next time they are in concert near us. This is one of the best concerts we've been to and we got to several a year. Everyone should catch this show!

Fantastic band, I was afraid they wouldn't have been jamming this much. Glad to listen to dynamics and tonal changes coming in. Unfortunately, volume levels were unbalanced (couldn't hear guitars) and way too high.

    I LOVE THOSE VULTURES!!!!!!!!!!

    by 1ozonebaby on 5/20/10Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

As what most who have met me know that I am so immersed in Led Zeppelin and their various projects (which I am so glad each of the surviving did). I had goose bumps and I was so exited to see this show. It was a long wait but oh my god, what a show! I don't know who I was most impressed with, being partial to "Jonesy". It was great to see JPJ's stage presence and I have not seen him since the last Chicago tour of my beloved Zeppelin. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Please continue to work together.

    by ian1seth2 on 5/20/10Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

What can anyone say except Dave Grohl (my man) ,John Paul Jones, and Josh Homme in the same room playing music together, how could it not be AWESOME!! It was a fabulous show and I ran inside so we could be close to the stage, and we were!! I took over 500 pictures and they all turned out quite well!! I was right by JPJ so I got alot of great pics of him! Too bad Dave was hiding behind the drums and I could not see his greatness too well. All in all an absolute AWESOME show with AWESOME music and AWESOME musicians!!! LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT!!!

Best Live Show I've Ever Seen....

    by Scorp57 on 5/20/10Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

I've been to my share of shows over the past ten years and although not a professional critic I think I have the ability to judge between the good the bad and the awesome. The Vultures show in Chicago was by far the best I have ever seen. So few bands sound better live on every single song they play and not only that but give you a personal feeling performance experience that leaves you craving more and more. If you already didn't know individually the rock legends that make up this relatively new group you would definitely be behind the times but either way the sounds and melodies they are already producing on their first album and tour are simply incredible. If you appreciate rock in any way, seeing a Vultures show should definitely be on your list of must do's!!!!!!!!!!

    Them Crooked Vultures: Chicago

by Balatro on 5/20/10Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

What can be said about three hard-rock legends that hasn't already been said? This show, simply put, was incredible. The band performed on a stage simply decorated with squares of white l.e.d. lights hung behind them. But if you're attending Them Crooked Vultures for pomp and theatrics, you'd be better off waiting for the next KISS farewell tour. Likewise, if you're going in the hopes of covers of any of the respective members' home bands, you're going to be disappointed. This is neither your dad's nor your Gen-X brother's band. Though Alain Johannes did pull out some pretty rocking Desert Sessions-esque guitar solos, you won't hear Kashmir, Everlong, or No One Knows.

The best show I have ever seen.

by TheMauveAvenger on 5/20/10Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

Simply incredible. They are SUCH amazing musicians, and they had fun with each other and with the audience. I came from northeast New Jersey and drove 12 hours to see them, but it was well worth it. If they ever come around again see them.

I went there for JPJ, but I enjoyed it all

by Peterisjustok on 5/20/10Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

The funny thing about when you go to concerts where you are not super familiar with the band, is you feel like you will be out place... crossing your arms... and nodding along to the music. But with Them Crooked Vultures, it was hard to not find yourself in the groove and energy of their music. They excited the whole crowd, and everyone was along for the ride. I wasn't just a Zeppelin junkie trying to catch a glimmer of John Paul Jones (which I got way more than a glimmer... the dude still has it), I was also a part of a cool bunch of people listening to great music.

    A Classic Performance!

by roegermon on 5/20/10Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

It's a shame I never got to see John Paul Jones with Led Zeppelin, but nevertheless Jonesy still has it. The musical marriage of Jones with Dave Grohl and Joshua Homme is a true masterpiece. Grohl's powerful drumming combined with Jones' intricate bass lines and Homme's great vocal prowess to provide an evening of sonic bliss. The average show on this tour was about 85 minutes, but TCV provided the crowd with 2 full hours. I was surprised by Grohl's excellent drumming, which gave me a new appreciation for his talent as a drummer. Extended versions of songs sometimes are a bit of overkill, but for TCV they were the cherry on the sundae, showcasing the virtuosity of the band. Let's hope this band keeps recording and touring in the future.

    TCV play in brillant colors!

by Bahookie13 on 5/20/10Murat Egyptian Room at Old National Centre - Indianapolis

Loved, Loved, LOVED the show .... John Paul Jones does for music, what SpiderMan did for Marvel Comic, what Monet did for haystacks, what Goethe did for German Romanticism! He steps it back only to launch it into the outer reaches! He plays in multi-color; bass, mandolin, keyboards, etc. all brillant hues!! & dont get me started on David or bday boy Josh. Overview: if u can see Them Crooked Vultures, you will enrich your world ~ so DO IT!...

    These guys sound amazing live.

    by tzman06 on 5/20/10Aragon Ballroom - Chicago

It was a fantastic show. The music and vocals sounded even better than they did on the album. You could tell that they were having a good time as well. The light show really added to the experience, integrated well with the music. They managed to make one album worth of music stretch to two hours without straining interest in the songs. Scum Bag Blues became a 10+ minute epic. Fantastic show in a perfect small club. Couldn't have enjoyed it more.
