About

Four years after forming in a London school, The xx unleashed their 2009 eponymous debut via Young Turks. The 11-track collection not only earned accolades from critics across the globe, but it also scored the U.K.’s coveted Mercury Prize and landed the dream-pop band in the limelight stateside. Singles from their indie-label foray graced American television programs like “Person of Interest” and “90210,” as well as a Karl Lagerfeld runway show and NBC’s coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Along with their own headlining theater tours and concerts alongside Friendly Fires, Hundred Waters and The Big Pink, the musical trio has performed at several festivals, including the Matt Groening-curated All Tomorrow’s Parties in 2010, Coachella, Sasquatch Festival and Lollapalooza, among others.

For their most recent effort, 2012’s “Coexist,” the indie pop outfit expanded their ticket-buying base with post-dubstep EDM influences. Though mellow, these touches can be heard in the album’s first two singles, “Angels” and “Chained.”

  • A modern duet

by NiaBy on 2/5/13Florida Theatre Jacksonville - JacksonvilleRating: 4 out of 5

I've been a fan of The XX ever since I've discovered them at a concert in NYC back in 2009. I would refer this band as a modern duet style. The show itself was great but the Florida theatre is not suitable for this venue. Its an old style theatre and the seats are small and tightly spaced and the floor are not elevated enough to where the people siting in front of you are not going to block your view. If people in rows before you stand up then everyone else has to stand or you will not see that stage. Most people spend a lot of time having to move around to see the stage; so it was a bit distracting.

  • Such sultry, crisp voices!

They sound perfect live....like a CD...I didn't think they'd be able to pull that off live!

  • The xx blew me away! So amazing!

    by kraus3434 on 2/3/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was amazing. i love the xx even more now. The lights and sound were amazing. i loved it. but where i sat was poor. i could barely see there heads. had to duck sometime to see their faces.. i do not recommend anyone sitting where i sat. I couldnt see anything. And also, the break in between the opening act and the xx took forever. and it did not start at 7:30, it started at like 8.. But other than that. im so glad the ryman let the xx perform. the concert was unforgettable.

The Xx put on an beautiful and entertaining show. I would highly recommend seeing them if given the opportunity. And as far as venue's goes, it doesn't get much better than the Ryman.

    by P3te on 2/2/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Big fan of the xx and their music is in constant rotation in my iPod. They sounded awesome live and I'm not sure there's a bad seat in the Ryman so it was really great to be right there.

  • XX at the Ryman...very nice!!

    by JoshyJosh49 on 2/2/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Wasn't sure what to expect from these Brit kids live, especially after the latest record, Coexist was so downbeat. Well, they proved to be MUCH better live than on record!! Mainly due to the talents of beats/production man, Jamie xx, as he ruled the night with inventive twists on the songs that really freshened up the music. And kudos to the band for showing sincere reverence to the Ryman and all of it's fabled history. They really seemed awe-struck to be playing there. Great night, great band.

  • Great Atmosphere

by DLitch on 1/31/13The National - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

The show was everything I could have hoped for. The stage set up perfectly embodied The XX, moody and dark. The band was perfect, as always The National's sound set-up was perfect. Can't wait to see these guys again on their 2nd visit to VA.

The xx didn't disappoint. I enjoy their first album much more than they're second so I loved that they played a lot of the songs off their first album.

  • The XX was amazing!!!!!

    by ButterFLY234 on 1/31/13The National - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

I have never been to a show with such a great light show. All the lights coordinated with the music, and made it ALL that much better. They were great live, both the girl and the guy. Great ambiance and the venue was perfect, I was able to be right in the front basically. I just can't get over what a great light show they had coordinated, which almost made it seem like a dream state, especially cause of their music. It was AWESOME!!

  • by Venus1983 on 1/31/13The National - RichmondRating: 5 out of 5

Incredible show! The lights added a lot to the music and overall experience. It was amazing! It's the first time I knew every song they played and it was just wonderful.

Beautiful sound. Unique set design. Awesome lighting.

  • Questionable openers

    by ninsgirl98 on 1/31/13The National - RichmondRating: 4 out of 5

The XX put on a great show. Lyrics were so much more clear in person than on the album. Both Jamie and Romy truly appear grateful to have supportive fans. However the choice in opening act, Austra, was somewhat questionable. The lead singer seems think she was a failed ballerina in some other life combined with chirping and fluttering like a bird. I'm open to new sounds but if I want to hear wildlife I'll go outside. The XX was worth sitting through the opening act :-)

  • XX blew me away!! best experience ever!

I fell in love with the Xx this past summer and have been hooked ever since and was anticipating this concert for the longest and they were everything I imagined and more. Fantastic concert thus far and I took my girlfriend who recently became a fan because of my constant playbacks of both albums. The show was amazing and intimate. Vocals were strong and Jaime did his thing with the beats :) Cant wait to see them again.
