Excellent Adaptation Of The Wizard Of Oz

by aroy on 7/24/17The Maryland Theatre - Hagerstown

This show was just spectacular. You are basically watching The Wizard Of Oz on a live stage with a very talented cast and crew. The songs are from the original movie with some new ones added. The actress who played Dorothy was amazing and she had a beautiful voice that really moves you as with the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion. There was a big screen that had images of Kansas, Munchkin Land, The Emerald City, The Haunted Forest for whatever scene was taking place. They even had little children play the Munchkins which was adorable. The dog that played Toto was so cute that you would want to reach out and grab him. The costumes were just like the actual characters and were very good. Overall, it's a one of a lifetime experience that I will never forget.

Since I was a little girl The Wizard of Oz has always been my favorite movie. When I heard the play was coming to my city I must say I was over joyed. I thought the way the play was put together with the sets and special effects was incredible. I took my 16 year old son with me who is in the drama arts program with his school and he also thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the play,

Seating at Ferguson Center for the Arts

by ibabidn on 3/29/11Ferguson Center for the Arts Concert Hall - Newport News

The Wizard of Oz was wonderfully done; very true to the movie (almost a copy in voices and tone). There were a couple of new numbers and story lines that my niece told me were part of the book. Of important note concerning buying tickets for events at the Ferguson Center for the Arts: The venue is beautiful and constructed so there isn't a bad seat in the house except for those right behind the sound. Most diagram of playhouses do not show where the sound board is located and none of the ones I looked at of the FCFA did either. If you are standing at the back of the auditorium there are doorways on the right and left . The right staircase has the sound board. sitting at the bottom against the wall of the upper tiered seats and it's 4-5 seats wide. If you are sitting in the center section, first and second row; right hand side facing the stage (A & B 100-105)-especially for children, your view will be obstructed by the sound board operator and two contraptions that stick up in the air.

It was my 3-year-old son's first full-length theater experience and he loved it. His eyes were glued to the stage for the entire 2 and a half hours of the show. Great music, costumes, scenery. Toto stole the show! We all had a wonderful time.
