Wizard of Oz was great. I love Chicago Theatre. Absolutely recommend!!!
I would like to start by saying the venue is beautiful. The singing was good, costumes and scenery were great and they definitely did a good job to transition the story to stage. I personally am a HUGE fan of the movie. Therefore I was very disappointed with the play. From the songs to the witch(my favorite character) who they made a whiny, tantrum throwing screechy person. With a classic like the Wizard of Oz there was no need to make the changes. My kids (10 & 12) even kept asking why things didn’t follow the story.
Acting: subpar. Production on the whole: flat. Seats uncomfortable.
This was a birthday and Christmas gift to my 2 granddaughters. They enjoyed it so much. My husband and I found it just as enjoyable. The production and peformers were spectacular.
The classic scenes had little twists. I loved the diva trees and was thrilled. I wish I could have taken photographs.
It wasn’t all that. Probably great for lil kids, I’m sure they’ll enjoy it. Stage smoke covered the actors at certain points making it hard to see them. Set was just okay. Quite expensive..not impressive.
Thank you for an amazing afternoon! The wizard of oz was 100% well done. Any time 3 kids sit completely still and interested for 2.5 hours we have a success. They didn't stop talking about the show the rest of the day. Can't wait to do this again!!
The Wizard of Oz national tour did not disappoint! Lovely production and I was so thrilled to see a live dog was used for Toto, knowing how unpredictable animals can be.
Broadway level production. Wonderful for children and adults. An earlier start would have been better.
Great production. Cast was Fantastic! The show was great!
I was surprised with tickets for my birthday and we had an experience of a lifetime! The show was amazing, and they had high standards to meet for a huge fan like me. I know I wasn't the only person in the audience with every word memorized from childhood, and this crew never dropped a beat. The sets, the music, the costumes were all great, very creative and felt straight out of Oz. And the performance, where do I start? Dorothy, while quiet, had a gorgeous singing voice and a lovely inflection in her speech that harks the original. The Tinman's tap dancing blew me away. I feel like that's how the movie would have looked if Buddy Ebsen wasn't allergic to the paint. And it turns out we had the understudy Lion at our show, but I would have never known it. I think he gave my favorite performance of the night! Amazing acting with perfect comedic timing and the Best singing voice I've heard in a long time. Overall a spectacular show by all and I would see it over and over again. Please come back to Corpus Christi soon!
It was amazing that they could reproduce all the elements of the original movie, live and in person. The singing and acting was exceptional. I would highly recommend this performance to everyone.
I really liked this show!!.. very entertaining and funny.. would definitely do another show!
It was OK. I would not go see again. In all fairness it mostly is the venue at The Selena Auditorium in Corpus. It is a small stage. It was hard to hear at times. The seats are so uncomfortable and small even though they are new, it is not much improvement. I was shocked they allowed food and candy in the auditorium etc, Distracting hearing crinkling of bags being opened, We had excellent seats (so I thought) in front first row of Grand Tier. Problem was people arriving late were distracting as they block your view while standing in front of you with ushers with flashlights discussing where their seats are. If late should have to come from top of your section and walk down and not use side entrance at orchestra.. The sets were not impressive. They did not even have a yellow brick road.!! Munchkin land was not full of flowers etc.just the munchkins that were taller than Dorothy. The costumes were nice, the actors did a fair job, but too many New York accents. hard to understand.. Singing was good but not outstanding. I would like to see this show at The Majestic in San Antonio to compare.then I would know if the real problem is the venue. If in San Antonio it is the same sets etc. then dont expect it to be lavish like Miss Saigon, or Le Mis, or Phantom.. It reminded me of an amature local play or high school play.
The show was fantastic. There were times when I heard Judy Garland's voice in the Dorothy character. All the dancing, chorus, songs, just great.
This show was absolutely amazing!!! I bought tickets for my Mom for her birthday and she felt like a little girl again. Thank you for bringing this play to Corpus Christi.
Great production! Would go again and recommend to friends.
Our whole family, including 3 adults and 4 children, enjoyed "The Wizard of Oz" at The Maryland Theater this past weekend. The cast did a wonderful job. We were very impressed given the iconic nature of the story and the fact this was a local production. Costuming was very good.
Get performance perfect for family entertainment, would be nice if a lower income family could be sponsored !
From the cast to the crew and all those behind the scenes, this was a class act performance!
