THE WHO IN CONCERT:

Rock ‘n’ roll gods The Who have always stood out from the pack with their wild onstage antics. Known for smashing guitars, swinging microphones around, jumping off amplifiers, and blowing up drum kits, the band has always represented the pinnacle of rebellious rock genius. Their larger-than-life performances are evenly matched by their huge sound, and classics like “My Generation”, “Pinball Wizard”, and “Won’t Get Fooled Again” are still played with thunderous force. For The Who Hits 50! Tour, the group is bringing their trademark monolithic grandeur and kinetic energy to stages around the world. Ticket buyers should be ready for an awe-inspiring stage show that lives up to the mythical status these legends so rightly deserve.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in 1964 around Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, and (later that year) Keith Moon, The Who have always been on the vanguard of music, art, and culture. With their first single “I Can’t Explain”, the band became a staple of English Mod culture. They also developed a penchant for onstage theatrics such as smashing guitars and destroying drum kits during their sets. The group took their high-concept performances to the next level in 1969 with the release of Tommy, known as the first “rock opera”. Their next album, 1971’s Who’s Next, further established the band with another batch of classic songs like “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, “Behind Blue Eyes”, and “Baba O’Reilly”. The continued to cement their status as rock gods throughout the decade, touring and releasing a steady string of hits. Throughout the '80s, '90s, and '00s The Who continued to deliver riveting live performances to stunned audiences around the world. Despite the passing of several members over the years, Daltrey and Townshend have soldiered on, delivering the critically acclaimed album The Endless Wire in 2006, their first album in 24 years.

    Wow

by GMan on 11/11/22Dolby Live - Las Vegas

If this was The Who's last show ever, they went out with a bang. Great venue, great orchestra backing them, Starkey was great on the drums, and Simon did a great job with many of the guitar parts that Pete did in the past but can't now because of loss of hearing. Pete and Roger played and sang with energy all night. Great 2 hour and 20 minute show.

    WHO are you people?!

    by J. H. on 11/11/22Dolby Live - Las Vegas

The WHO : LAS VEGAS Dolby Live : 5th November 2022 Las Vegas’ Dolby Live, 5,200 seater venue is spectacular. The custom-designed sound system is breathtaking and The Who made full use of it. It was as if this 29th and last date on the ‘The Who Hits Back’ tour was their opportunity to relax, kick back and let the music talk. Pete Townsend had apparently complained bitterly about the sub-par venue in Phoenix, 6 days before, and took the opportunity to explain that he had sound issues the previous night, but that he had ‘fixed it’! Was the grumpy old man going to get in the way of the performance? Far from it. The band reveled in each other’s company and there were copious smiles mixed with obvious sadness that this huge ensemble was going to go their separate ways in the morning. Roger Daltrey was almost a bystander for the first 12 minutes of the show as Pete the orchestra blazed through excerpts from Tommy. Starting with the Overture and ending with We’re Not Going To Take It. Then Roger took over. His screams and howls brought us back to reality and reminded us of how revolutionary the songs on that album were. The opening chords of ‘Who Are You’, burst any remaining bubbles and the band began to slowly but surely blow the roof off. Yes, The Who are essentially Townsend and Daltrey, having lost John Entwistle 20 years (in this very town), and Keith Moon 44 years ago. Townsend remarked that he and Roger had been playing together for over 60 years but Ringo’s wee boy, Zak Starkey, has been playing with them for 26 years and complements Townsend’s chord thrashing with his silky skill and raw power. Keith Moon would have no arguments. So, we had band plus orchestra (for Tommy) then the band on their own (various songs from Who’s Next, Who Are You, Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy, Faces Dance etc.) then band plus orchestra (for Quadrophenia). So many of the tracks relied on Roger’s voice and the 77 year old (wait! Can that really be right?) didn’t let himself down. ‘5:15’, ‘The Seeker’, ‘Who Are You’, ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ and especially ‘Love Reign O’er Me’ were the major tests and he left me wondering who his voice coach was and how much that person was being paid! That scream on the latter, according to my neighbor, was worth the entry fee. I confess I’m at the stage that a 2-hour performance is pushing it. By then it’s time for a beer and a debrief. On this occasion, I could have sat there all night! When will we see their likes again? WHO knows?

The Who concert at the Hollywood Bowl - November 1, 2022

by Charmeine on 11/10/22Hollywood Bowl - Hollywood

This concert was nostalgic! Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey still know how to make the magic happen. After this concert I couldn’t help but sing “Who Are You”!!! The Hollywood Bowl is a joy and I loved having a picnic dinner at the picnic table at the Hollywood Bowl before the concert started.

    The Who in Vegas

by Iceberg on 11/10/22Dolby Live - Las Vegas

Great show from The Who. They sounded great and had a terrific setlist. Pete and Roger engaged the crowd throughout. Dolby theater was mostly comfortable with very good sight lines but surprisingly few restrooms (which were overrun at times).

Fantastic Experience, horrible acoustics at Dolby Live

by Vi on 11/10/22Dolby Live - Las Vegas

The Who performed an incredible concert! The Dolby Live Theater needs improvements, the acoustics were horrible and the vocals were almost completely lost for the opening band. The Who's sound engineers made up for it, but as Pete Townshend said, the sound was bad - the band incredible.

You better, you better, you bet!

    by V. T. on 11/9/22Dolby Live - Las Vegas

Not first time seeing the Who, but always worth an encore or two! First time seeing them with an orchestra and it was amazing! Roger and Pete can still perform after all these years and never disappoint! Would have preferred they skipped the opening act and just perform additional hits like "Bargain" and "Athena". They rocked Vegas and hope to see them return!

From age 10 to age 70

by Speechless at how timeless and awesome these guys are on 11/9/22Dolby Live - Las Vegas

How many bands have been with you your entire lifetime? From the mid 60's to the early 2000's. Thier music has been part of my life since adolescence. Opening song with orchestra - "Overture" - literally gave me chills. The a wonderful sampling from Tommy and Quadrophenia. Then many other hits capped off by Baba O'Reilly and the MOST INCREDIBLE rock violin solo ever by a young millennial Asian women. Peter & Roger thank you for continuing to share your gifts with the world in your late 70's. You are most loved and so a part of so many people's core being. Joe L. Murgo, Charlotte NC

    by B. C. on 11/9/22Dolby Live - Las Vegas

I LOVE THE WHO!!! Lets talk about Ticketmaster. I will never use them again. It is not worth it. Even if the band was handing out free money and a puppy. I would not and will not, ever use Ticketmaster again.

    Disappointing

by KMac on 11/9/22Dolby Live - Las Vegas

The first 30 minutes were outstanding…then they stated the dreaded “now something from our new album.” The rest of the show was very disappointing. Many people walked out. We hung around hoping they would return to some of their many hits. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. Don’t waste your money on this show. So disappointing from one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

Not as good, but not overshadowed

by Mer on 11/8/22Dolby Live - Las Vegas

Daltry can still hit the high notes and leaves his soul on the stage. His voice reverberates off the walls with a little less force than it did in the 70s but he can still light up the arena. He wanted to sing all night. Townsend pounds the same notes on the guitar, and his rotator cuff is still supporting windmills-barely- and he has lost some jumping height but he still has presence and the energy of a man who loves his work. The orchestra was superb, with an especially luscious performance by the violinist, who danced and played exultantly during the last part of baba o'riley. Starkey played drums with passion. The band contributed to the power of the performance. A humbler and less agile Townsend took the microphone at the end and said: "Roger wants to do it forever, but I have other things I want to do." They weren't what they were, but no new group has ever come close. The combination of brilliance, power, enthusiasm, audacity have not been touched. Groups with audacity without talent come and go. But even with the slow sanding of age, the who still generate creative soul touching power.

Best concert performance and sound in twenty years!

by Tommy on 11/8/22Dolby Live - Las Vegas

OMG! The Who sounded studio grade perfect! When you factor in they’re 77yrs old, they played for 2hrs40min and it was the last stop on the tour it’s just numbing how spot on incredible the entire event was. From windmill guitars to full orchestra to non stop performing I haven’t seen a concert of this quality in at least twenty years. I see a lot of concerts every year and I started when I was 14. Im 59 now. I saw them as my 3rd band ever in the 1970s and this was right there too. Roger Daltrey‘S voice is still very good. The only noticeable difference due to aging was he’d hit a sustained note and then take a quick breath to go up the scale. And that was only toward the end when anyone would be tired. They love their fans. They gave their all and it showed!

    Great Time

by KG on 11/8/22Dolby Live - Las Vegas

Roger, Peter, Zack and Simon never disappoint. A Rockin' good time. Didn't want it to end. They even hired an orchestra to enhance the experience. Just one new song and a bunch of familiar hits from several decades, including a few from both Tommy and Quadrophenia.
