About
The Waterboys have been led by Scottish singer and guitarist Mike Scott since the 1980s and have evolved through many line-ups, winning a fearsome concert reputation along the way. Indisputably one of the best live bands in the world, the 2025 group features double keyboard players Brother Paul from Memphis and James Hallawell from Cornwall, and is grounded by killer Irish rhythm section Aongus Ralston (bass) and Eamon Ferris (drums). They reconfigure music from all stages of the band's career, from the early "big music" of The Whole Of The Moon and classic album This Is The Sea through the roots-inspired Fisherman's Blues era and the run of in-form records that have poured out since 2015's Nashville-recorded Modern Blues, taking in soul, funk, country-rock and any other kind of music they care to play - and always rooted in Scott's songwriting mastery and a sense of exploration. Waterboys songs feature in the current or recent live sets of The War On Drugs, Bleachers, U2, The Killers, Tom Jones and many other acts but no one plays Waterboys quite like The Waterboys themselves. This year the band is touring their audacious new album on Sun records, Life, Death And Dennis Hopper, a brilliant concept record which tells the story of the maverick American actor and trailblazer. Audiences can expect Waterboys classics, new directions, drama, improvisation and musical fireworks.

Oh my!!!!
by Greg13 on 10/10/13El Rey Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5Possibly the most under appreciated and under the radar band in rock history. I expected Mike and Steven to be nothing short of inspiring, and the rest of the band to be very good. All my expectations were surpassed by an order of magnitude. This ranked in my top 5 concerts of all time, and believe me I've been going to concerts since the mid-sixties (last century) and have seen the best of the best in large and small venues. Mike Scott deserves to be revered as a songwriter and performer among the likes of Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Dylan, Lennon and McCartney and any other your personal favorites.
The Waterboys are top notch!
by Wonderful111 on 10/10/13El Rey Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5Go to see them when they are in town. Mike, Steve and their american band mates are in top form!
The Waterboys
by ADessex on 9/30/13Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5Wonderful, varied, and exhilarating concert. From the moment they kicked off with Strange Boat and Fisherman's Blues to their culmination two hours later with Be My Enemy, The Waterboys put on one of the best shows I have ever seen by any band. They are as good and better than ever. The 'big' Waterboys sound is breathtaking, but the intimidate Raggle Taggle Gypsy with only Mike Scotts and Steve Wickham really showcased their talent, And Wickham, so integral to The Waterboys sound, was phenomenal on the fiddle. Can't wait for the opportunity to see them again.
OUTSTANDING The Waterboys deliver again!
by HEB1 on 9/29/13Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5Amazing show! The band was full of energy and very tight. Mike Scott's passion is infectious. The song selection hit on the best of the old and a sprinkling of the new. Steve Wickham was stellar. It was a half full venue but those in attendance got more than their money's worth from a veteran singer/songwriter and the young guns he brought along in this new incarnation of The Waterboys. The crowd was on its feet and singing along from start to finish.Would go see them again and again. GREAT SHOW!
Waterboys were almost great
by SullyfromPR on 9/28/13Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5I tell you, I went to the concert knowing a good bit of their music but really only loved 4-5 songs. But when they played, I found myself enjoying every song. The downside was that I brought my wife for our anniversary. Bang on the Ear was by far our favorite song, (we walked out to it on our wedding introduction) and I was so very very disappointed that they didn't play it.
Waterboys awed me!
by DooneyBee on 9/28/13Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5At the gorgeous renovated Bergen PAC, which I will always think of as the old John Harms, and though the house was only half full on a Wednesday night, it brought tears to my eyes, not only because the music was so absolutely amazing (the talents of these men, the poetry of their souls and the energy of their bodies, made a music so awe inspiring it's tough to describe) but seeing the predominantly baby boomer crowd loud and alive and wooting and dancing in the aisles and yelling back to the band, well, that alone was worth the price of admission -- and more. Great mix of old and new tunes.
Waterboys
by madelf on 9/28/13Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5For what is going on with the personal of the band and the decision to not bring the full "real" band over to North America, this performance was just fine. I could never really knock the Waterboys but I feel like the basic setlist for this tour is a little stale. Relying heavily on the "This Is The Sea" album which is not even the album they are about to celebrate an anniversary of. It's just alot of the same old songs. The rarest song of the night, "She Tried To Hold me". Musicianship was fantastic.
Water Boys at Bergen PAC
by Amstel4fun on 9/28/13Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5Amazing show. The band was really into it- you could see how much they enjoyed it. The American musicians selected for the American tour were fantastic especially Chris Benelli on drums. Even if you're just a casual WB fan I highly recommend catching a show if you can.
Waterboys was the best ever!!!!!!!
by Sparklesuzy on 9/28/13Shubert Theater - New HavenRating: 5 out of 5This show was absolutely unforgettable. Michael and the boys rocked the house. The crowd was incredibly enthusiastic, They sounded great, the venue was perfect. It was like a Super Blast from my past. Love, Love , Love, You,come back soon. Thanks to YOU, from my brother Thom that passed in June and was there with me that night at the show. " Whole of the Moon" was and is living on through you, him, his family, and his music as well. Thank You Waterboys for your comfort and happiness.
Waterboys were perfection
by Bkaren on 9/26/13Shubert Theater - New HavenRating: 5 out of 5Mike Scott's voice was amazing. The song choices were fantastic. Lots of songs were new to me even though I own 5 of their CDs.
The Waterboys Were out-of-this-world Fabulous
by SLCarlson on 9/24/13Shubert Theater - New HavenRating: 5 out of 5The larger than life, grandiose, and highly intelligent music of The Waterboys that I remembered from the early 1990s was even better than I remembered at the Shubert. Mike Scott's distinctive, soulful voice drew us in but kept us at a distance in a beguiling Celtic way. The songs from his album "An Appointment with Mr. Yeats" were intelligent and bold and, as my friend Alice said, transformative. When I could take my eyes of the stage--which always seems with reach at the Shubert--I closed them to enjoy the blend of sounds with pure delight. While Mike Scott masterfully choreographed every move anybody made on the stage, the concert was first and last about the music. Please come back to New Haven, Waterboys!
Awesome Show
by enfp123 on 9/24/13Shubert Theater - New HavenRating: 5 out of 5I missed the Waterboys when they were last in the area, but was so happy to catch them this time around! And although they didn't play my personal favorite the line up was great!
Really cool show:)
by TA1968 on 9/24/13Shubert Theater - New HavenRating: 4 out of 5Ok we checked out "The Waterboys" last Saturday, totally cool show, not knowing there music going in I was thinking St. Patricks day typical Irish band but this was totally not that, kinda a mix between Irish rock meets Dylan meets theater, really cool vibe, good music, my date and I have been talking about it ever since, if your into music, I'd totally recommend checking this out:)
The Waterboys - great show!
by Finovski on 9/23/13Wilbur Theatre - BostonRating: 4 out of 5Mire than just a great trip down memory lane and reliving the '80s and 90s heydays this was a great show. A brilliant fusion of Celtic energy, music and poetry, Mike Scott sounded as good as ever and Stevie Wickham sounded better than ever on fiddle. Terrific show, would highly recommend!
Don't miss The Waterboys!
by CrazyIrishEyes on 9/23/13Wilbur Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5The Waterboys won't disappoint! Mike Scott and company play a great mix of new tunes and classics such as Fisherman's Blues and Raggle Taggle Gypsy. I'd see them again in a heartbeat. The Wilbur Theatre is a great, little venue with good accoustics and wonderful staff.

One long set.....no break....and as always, you want them to keep playing and you can't believe it's over.
- by endocrine on 9/22/13Wilbur Theatre - BostonRating: 3 out of 5
The show was good however the sound system at the Wilbur was atrocious. The music was very loud, which in itself isn't a bad thing but the sound quality stunk, sounded tinny and was tough on the ears. The band did a good job but someone has to invest in a decent set of amps and speakers. The Waterboys play a long time. Really enrgetic, they did a great job.
