About

The Waterboys have been led by Scottish singer and guitarist Mike Scott since the 1980s and have evolved through many line-ups, winning a fearsome concert reputation along the way. Indisputably one of the best live bands in the world, the 2025 group features double keyboard players Brother Paul from Memphis and James Hallawell from Cornwall, and is grounded by killer Irish rhythm section Aongus Ralston (bass) and Eamon Ferris (drums). They reconfigure music from all stages of the band's career, from the early "big music" of The Whole Of The Moon and classic album This Is The Sea through the roots-inspired Fisherman's Blues era and the run of in-form records that have poured out since 2015's Nashville-recorded Modern Blues, taking in soul, funk, country-rock and any other kind of music they care to play - and always rooted in Scott's songwriting mastery and a sense of exploration. Waterboys songs feature in the current or recent live sets of The War On Drugs, Bleachers, U2, The Killers, Tom Jones and many other acts but no one plays Waterboys quite like The Waterboys themselves. This year the band is touring their audacious new album on Sun records, Life, Death And Dennis Hopper, a brilliant concept record which tells the story of the maverick American actor and trailblazer. Audiences can expect Waterboys classics, new directions, drama, improvisation and musical fireworks.

  • LONG LIVE REAL ROCK!!

by Tré on 10/9/25The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

What a great actual rock show. Had never seen them, had never been to the Bellwether, both were perfect that night; must admit, was not terribly familiar w/ the catalog besides the hits, but nearly everything they played that night was loud, raw rock'n' roll in a classic but modern style (broken up w/the occasional ballad); the Bellwether is also a modern classic place to experience live music, the venue matched the music perfectly. The crowd clearly knew they were witnessing something special, particularly by the time the band got deep into their better-known tracks, closing w/a cover of Purple Rain that had the audience swaying & singing along; Mike Scott's a consummate showman & his band is comprised of absolute virtuosos — definitely a tour worth getting in on.

  • Waterboys

by Angela on 10/8/25The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Hands down one of the top 5 most entertaining concerts I’ve been to (and I’ve been to hundreds)

  • Outstanding!

by MuzikBich on 9/30/25The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This was such a wonderful show. I have loved the Waterboys since their first album but totally forgot about "A Girl Called Johnny"since it's not often played these days. It was one of my favorite songs back in the day, so when they played it, I was absolutely ecstatic! Their performance overall was fantastic, and the crowd was really energetic. As a side note: The Bellwether is a great venue, and I look forward to seeing a lot more shows there.

  • Waterboys - Fillmore SF

by GD on 9/29/25The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent show. Band was super tight and sound was beyond perfect from the first note. Great set list, although missed the fiddle player and some of those tunes from Fisherman's Blues. Will always see these guys live. Anytime.

  • Fantastic! One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.

by Char on 9/29/25The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

A BRILLIANT CONCERT!!! The Waterboys are truly at the top of their game. Exciting, moving, lyrical, inventive, musically daring—and great fun! Also, they played so many songs I love, including “Don’t Bang the Drum,” “Fisherman’s Blues,” “The Pan Within” “Medicine Bow,” “Glastonbury Song” and more. As part of their encore they played their version of Prince’s “Purple Rain,” which I’ve seen them perform online—it’s pretty amazing! They also played a number of songs from their latest album, “Life, Death and Dennis Hopper,” which I was just beginning to warm to, but at this concert they totally won me over. Love “Hopper’s on Top (Genius),” “The Tourist,” “Blues for Terry Southern,” “Kansas” and “Ten Years Gone.” I only discovered the group fairly recently and, although I’ve watched and loved earlier concerts online, this is the first time I’ve seen them live. They went way beyond my expectations. (I missed seeing Steve Wickham, their spectacular, long-time fiddle player who quit recently—hoping he’ll come back for a few Waterboys events) There was a special connection with the audience, which seemed right because the songs on the new album are mostly set in LA and other parts of Southern California. I sensed old fans too. So wow. It felt great to step away from all the depressing events worldwide for an evening of profound enjoyment.

  • Left early

by Cosmothebagel on 9/29/25The Bellwether - Los AngelesRating: 1 out of 5

Been a fan for over 30 years, first time seeing them live. So disappointed with the Dennis Hopper Rock Opera and the god awful organ and piano solos we left early. Hated the concept, the terrible song writing and the obnoxious performances

They gave 100% to the performance, and they are amazing musicians. Very enjoyable show.

The venue is awesome! The Waterboys had tons of energy and sounded incredible. One of the best shows in a long time! I would have absolutely loved women back up singers for Whole of the Moon!
