Too much John
by Tlkp on 11/5/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 3 out of 5Who can complain about the story of our Lord? Never. My complaint is with the Apostle John and his length of story telling. He talked to too much, sometimes in excess of ten minutes- introduction was around twenty five minutes, no acting just talking in front of a black curtain. The actual play, acting and scenes were brilliant, amazing. The first half of was dull, second half came alive (with the exception again of John).
The other uncomfortable part was prior to intermission, in a captive audience, the sponsor arrives on stage and asks for charitable contributions to their cause. This is ten minutes, at least. I felt it was time thief, as lights were still dim and you are expected to stay in your seats. Then you are led into intermission.
Cutting the dialogue of John and moving the sales pitch to intermission and those who want to stay can, would have made this play much more worthy of $300 we spent on tickets.
