  • A Reminder of His Love

by Cynthia on 4/12/25Rating: 5 out of 5

This was a was an amazing experience. The story telling by David was awesome. The scene of the crucifixion looked so real. It's heartbreaking to see a mother witness the brutal beating of hers and our Messiah, The King of all kings, Lord of Lords!! BUT HE LIVES!!!

  • Amazing show!

Amazing show! Took my 17 and 8 year old sons, and even my squirmy 8 year old was mesmerized! Visually stunning, fantastic way to see the life of Jesus

  • Greatness

by Jo on 4/8/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

I would see it again. It was magnificent! The performers were great. I loved the narrator, John he was funny but yet serious.

  • Intense

by Savvy on 4/8/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

Overall I enjoyed the performance. I found the humor of John in the first half unnecessary. I was focused on the life of Jesus and the jokes would distract me from my serious feelings. I would have to refocus after each attempt at humor.

  • Best Performance of the Year

by BDK on 4/8/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

We have attended 6 different performances at DPAC in Durham in 2025 and this is by far the best! Very entertaining. The lighting and effects were great. the acrobatics were exceptional. The narrator John was sincere but also hilarious. I would HIGHLY recommend for anyone, even if you aren't a Christian.

  • Fantastic visual of God’s Love

by Darnell on 4/8/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed the Thorn. Great story with fantastic characters who kept the audience at the edge of their seat even for those that know the story of Jesus and the creation. A must see for everyone.

  • Loved everything - except the blinding lights

by ebowen on 4/8/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

This was a fantastic show - the story of Jesus as told by John, his disciple. Some scenes may not make sense for those that do not already know the story, but the narration by John put the full story in a new perspective. The only downside was that we were in the center balcony (tier) and some of the stage lights shone directly toward us during a few scenes, making it difficult to see what was happening (the lights were blinding). Otherwise, highly recommend for anyone who loves the story of Jesus and would like to see a different perspective.

  • Awesome way to tell the good news.

by Becky boo on 4/8/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed going to see this performance. You could feel the spirit of the Lord. If I could change anything, it would be the people coming in and out during the performance. It was very distracting.

  • Great but…

by Eri on 4/8/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

The play was overall great! The only hold back I could address is that the narrator was “An old man” & he was Hard to understand at times bc he’s using a “old” voice and then when he wld “cry” Or get into distress - on top of the already old voice - it was really hard to understand him.

  • Amazing

by J Mac on 4/8/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

We've all read about the Last Supper, the betrayal of Jesus and his horrific death and the resurrection. To see it was eye opening and life changing. I wasn't sure what to expect and The Thorn outdid anything I could imagine. Everyone should see The Thorn. Truly amazing!

The Thorn was an amazing, beautiful production! Loved it!

  • Wonderful God- Honoring and creative.

by Paul on 4/8/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

The Thorn was a creative, professional telling of the greatest story ever told. The narration, music, light show, sets and plot were well done and accurate to scriptural truth. We attended a matinee that was added due to all the other shows being sold out and so was the added matinee. DPAC is a wonderful venue to see any production.

  • Fantastic!!!

by SHolt on 4/8/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

This was an incredibly powerful, emotional and all in all fantastic show! It is packed with biblical history that shows the love of Jesus. It’s truly a must-see! I’m already looking forward to the next time it comes back to our area.

  • The show was good. The parking sucked.

by DC on 4/7/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

We enjoyed the show. It was very inspirational and entertaining and was very well done. Our biggest problem was the parking. We were there almost 45 minutes early and still could not find handicap accessible parking. We finally got a space on the sixth floor and regular parking and walk to the elevator to go down. When we came out and got back to the elevator in the parking garage, which by the way only has one single elevator for that whole huge garage. There was a long line because I can’t walk very fast to get there. I also can’t stand for very long. There’s no way I could make it up six flights of stairs to get to the car to sit down, so I had to wait, standing outside the elevator area until my husband walked up six flights of stairs only to get into at least a 20 minute traffic jam to get down to the elevator to pick me up. There’s nowhere to sit down there so basically there’s no way for a person with mobility issues to manage this parking situation. This is the first time I’ve been there since I’ve developed these neurological conditions and an all honesty. I probably will not be able to go back there again. It’s a shame because I did enjoy it.

  • Captivating Performance

by DJ on 4/7/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

This was a captivating performance with every scene filled with emotion, drawing laughter and tears in equal measures. The dancers added an extra layer of magic to the performance, their movements perfectly synchronized with the music and the storyline. Each actor brought a unique energy that captivated me, ensuring that the magic of the performance lingered in my heart. The commentator, let me just say his words painted vivid pictures in my mind, allowing me to relive each scene and emotions long after the lights dimmed for each set. This was a stunning visual feast that complemented the power of acting, ensuring that the event would be remembered long after the final curtain call and I was completely captivated, hanging onto every moment of this performance. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience that me and family will never forget. Everyone involved in the show were able to showcase their incredible talent and dedication. I loved this show so much!

  • Very Disappointed

by Janice on 4/7/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 2 out of 5

Having seen a Cirque du Soleil show many years ago in Vegas, we were extremely excited when we read The Thorn advertisement claiming to be the story of Christ done as Cirque du Soleil. None of the lical Cirque shows has held a candle to the real show so we tried to keep our expectations reasonable. There was one performer swinging on fabric in the air and a lot of tumbling on stage. That was as close to Cirque as anything got. The story was so rushed it was hard for me to keep up or recognize at times which Biblical event they were depicting (and I grew up in church and Christian School so I know them). At intermission a lady comes out and begins to talk about hungry children in other countries and asks people to give money monthly to sponsor them. Other people come out to stand in the aisles with packets for these children. My husband and I were so disgusted we left at intermission and drive home. When people have paid that kind of money for what should have been an amazing show, they don't expect someone soliciting to hit them up for more money!

  • Outstanding Performance

by Bvance456 on 4/7/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Very enjoyable and well done performance about the entire life of Christ. The performers gathered in the lobby areas for photos with the patrons.

  • Inspirational, delightful- very moving performance!

by John 3:16 on 4/7/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing experience to watch this ballet. The skill and presentation of all involved was exceptional! Very inspirational and moving adaptation of the Gospel of John is seen through the eyes of John, the beloved, on the island of Patmos. The retelling of the Gospel message was riveting and compelling!
