From the first chord we were instantly transported 50 years back to our teens! The audience was electrified and totally at one with the Temptations and the Four Tops. We waved, we sang, we clapped, we stood in respect and solidarity and commitment. Glorious experience!!
A couple of criticisms: at one point the decibel level for one of the Temptations' songs was uncomfortably grating.
For the Four Tops - With all of the wonderful repertory of recordings from which to choose, I would much rather have listened to a medley of several rather than the re-arrangements of other group's hits. Was the inclusion of "My Way" a farewell piece? Sweet tribute to the original three members who had passed on. Happy to see the very talented son carrying on his daddy's work. We attended specifically to hear their biggest hit (and my personal all-time favorite) "I Can't Help Myself - Sugarpie, Honeybunch". From the group's comments, we thought the evening was over. People were leaving. With 1/2 the crowd up the aisles and out the door, the Tops suddenly began this super classic. We all screamed with joy and were transfixed till the too short ending. One suggestion: frequently with the Tops, the music overwhelmed the singing, particularly the piano keyboards. This was distracting and very uncomfortable. Perhaps the band's staff could have members in various parts of the theater to listen for balance.
We LOVED the show. Ready for a repeat performance. This music is such an important part of American modern culture. These two bands created REAL music. National treasures.
