Saw The Swell Season at Coachella in 2008 and was so absolutely amazed by their performance, I was brought to tears. They are incredibly talented, genuine, and so, so charming. I can't wait to see them again when they play Oakland in November!
I had never heard of Glen Hansard or Marketa Irglova until I was channel surfing PBS a few weeks ago and they featured The Swell Season on one of their concert shows. From the first heavenly note uttered by these 2 incredible artists, I could not turn the channel if I had tried too. I was totally mesmerized by the most heavenly music I had ever heard. I was a die hard fan before I even knew their names. You simply MUST see these people and I will be first in line getting tickets to see them live. Glen is a great storyteller and really draws you into his world with his music and wonderful stories that segway into each song. I had never heard such an angelic voice as I did when Marketa opened her mouth. Together, these two people create the most etheric and heavenly music I have ever heard. Both are fantastic musicians, but its in their voices where the magic happens. Just save me some front row seats is all I ask. :)
Went to their Columbus, OH show in Sept.'08 and was blown away. I'd been a swellie fan for ages, but seeing them live took them up a hundred notches. The emotion and feeling they put into their sets is unreal, and they genuinely enjoy what they do, that really shows. If they come anywhere near you, GO SEE THEM! It'll be one of the best nights of your life. Promise.
