Julian's voice is ridiculous. I still can't figure out how he manages to sound simultaneously bored/jaded/wounded/cocky/great. So happy I went. And lusting after Fab didn't hurt either ;)

I attended the only Strokes concert for NYC in a while at Madison Square Garden on April 1. Their opening act shall remain nameless since the majority of the audience that was walking in decided to walk out and get drinks and snacks because no one was interested. A second mini performance happened 45 minutes later by none other than Elvis Costello himself...the only problem was that no one knew it was him until later on in the evening when he appeared with Julian to sing a song. The Strokes appeared soon after Mr. Costello's performance and they played all their hits and some new songs from their new album Angles, which had been released a week earlier, and about 3/4 of the crowd had already learned the songs to. MSG was sold up to the roof, and the fans sang to every single song. Julian had some comedic moments and I was led to believe that he wasn't drinking water out of the little red cups he carried ever so often across the stage. Several times he jumped into the crowd, and he never lost a note. The sound was amazing! It's not often when you hear a band play and sound as good as their albums since many now depend on reverb machines and technology to enhance their sound...which was not the case here...this was definitely rock and roll at it's best!! My only complaint was that after 90 minutes it was over and no one knew it until they turned the lights up. (According to MSG rules, events end at 11:00 or the band has to pay a hefty fine). This left everyone wanting more but overall, they sang all their hits and favorites and this was definitely one unforgettable concert....I wish they were playing another one here soon.

The Strokes put out an amazing show at Madison Square Garden on April 1, 2011. It's no wonder that the show was sold out. Also, we were amazed that Elvis Costello made a surprise appearance before The Stokes and even performed with them. This was a show not to forget

  • Ze Strokez were amazing!

by solalalanga on 4/5/11Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The show was phenomenal. I got to Devendra Banhart's set kind of late, and I missed Elvis Costello, but when The Strokes came out, everything was just so perfect. Julian Casablancas is literally the best frontman ever. His conversations with the audience and the band were just so hilarious and he's so weird but it just adds to his personality and character. Also, he went into the audience twice! And the band, ugh just so perfect. Fab, Nick, Nikolai, and Albert are so talented. Nick really knows how to shred and Fab killed it on his drum solos. And then they had the disco ball on for several songs, and it just made the concert so much more intimate and special. Plus they had some killer light effects. And then when Elvis Costello came out for "Taken For A Fool", it was like a April Fool's Day surprise! All in all the band did 20 songs and I had a great time. They're one band that you should see before you die, because they really know how to put on a show.

Not only did Elvis Costello make a surprise appearance, but Julian Casablancas of the Strokes jumped into the crowd twice. They were amazing live and I can't wait to see them again!

The Strokes were phonaminal. They put an exciting show packed with energy and intense music. I wish I had better seats to be right there in the epicenter of this earth shattering performance.

  • Strokes MSG 4/1/11: Crashin axes and smokin vox

Julian's feeling good. The Strokes at MSG on April Fool's Day did what they always do best -- smash the house, but in a friendly way. They swing into fury from calm, tearing across the sky, and then saunter along. Sweet and jagged. Nice stroll, guys.

This show was absolutely amazing! One of the best, if not the best concert, I've ever seen. The Strokes were fantastic! So fantastic, I forgot about the horrible opening act, especially with the surprise appearance by Elvis Costello! The Strokes just simply stated, put on one hell of a show!

  • The Best in NY

by KittyVee on 4/4/11Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

It was amazing to see The Strokes at MSG. I have seen them before and this blew the other show out of the water, and I thought that was an awesome show. The set list was perfection, and Julian got off the stage and into the pit with the people. A night i would def. like to repeat

  • Worth seeing - even at an obstructed view

by AMWe on 4/4/11Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

They played a perfect mix of their lesser and better known songs and it was obvious they were just as excited to be playing as their fans were to see them. A surprise appearance by Elvis Costello never hurts either.

  • by Casemaster on 4/4/11Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

by TheKermit on 4/4/11Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Another great Strokes show. The band was rocked, the vocals were on target even when the singing was done amongst a swarming crowd. Ready for another round.

  • Great surprise guest!

by ekfcheung on 4/4/11Madison Square Garden - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The set was shorter than expected, but an excellent selection from their discography nonetheless. Could have done with some of the senseless banter, but in the end, the surprise performance by Elvis Costello more than made up for it.

  • Awesome!!!

The energy during concert is amazing! Best concert I've seen so far at MSG!
