THE STROKES IN CONCERT:

American rockers the Strokes have been wowing audiences with their infectious hooks and post-punk influenced sound ever since breaking out in 2001 with Is This It. At the group's acclaimed live shows frontman Julian Casablancas showcases his distinct vocals on favorites like "Reptilia" and "Last Nite" while his bandmates keep pace with edgy guitar riffs, thumping basslines, and pounding drum patterns. With a decade-spanning collection of popular anthems at the ready, the Strokes always have fans singing along to their energetic sets on their can't-miss tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

New York City-based indie act the Strokes formed in 1998 and began playing local shows at popular venues in the area. They earned attention from major label execs after gaining widespread popularity for their intense live shows and with the release of their 2001 EP The Modern Age. They released their debut full-length album Is This It that same year, receiving universal acclaim from critics and fans and landing on Rolling Stone's Top 10 Debuts of All Time list. The five-piece has has continued to rule the charts with four more Top 10 albums over the course of the last decade, earning numerous awards and accolades in the process. They've become one of the most iconic rock acts of the era thanks to their collection of indie jams, and fans can experience their first-rate showmanship on full display every time they tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"When The Strokes came out, everything was just so perfect. Julian Casablancas is literally the best frontman ever. He went into the audience twice! Also, Fab, Nick, Nikolai, and Albert are so talented."

"It was really good. They sound just like they do on the albums, and often times songs sound even better. Even "You're So Right" sounded great. They weren't stiff or boring, they were far from it."

"This show was absolutely amazing! One of the best -- if not the best -- concerts I've ever seen. The Strokes were fantastic! "

  • Wrong time wrong place

by JJ on 1/4/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5

I LOVE The Strokes. Absolutely love them. Was so excited to see them live for the first time, on NYE. Circumstances beyond my control meant I showed up much later than I thought. I didn’t miss any of their performance, but the bars were all closed at the venue which was very disappointing as it was only 11pm on New Year’s Eve. While I knew my seat was up in the nosebleeds, I expected (at least) to have a view of the close-up screens. One was blocked by hanging lights, the other by the woman in the seat next to me. Overall I had a less-than-decent view of any of the show. Regardless, the band were still tight and the sound quality made the experience more worthwhile.

  • Amazing

by Ruthie on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Was the best concert I’ve ever been to. How many people can say they welcomed the decade with the Strokes and Mac? Incredible

  • Awesome experience!

by ivonchi on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

The Strokes never disappoint. I have seen them so many times that I can't remember how many; and Barclays center is a great venue (not too big like msg, not too small of course)

  • Great start to 2020!

by NB on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Wonderful time at The Strokes show on NYE at the Barclays Center. I sat lower level, directly in front of the stage/ next to the videographers - perfect view of the stage and screens. The band was awesome (played all the classics!), the openers were great, and the atmosphere was amazing (loved the NYE confetti!). Great time, so glad I attended.

  • When The Strokes knock, you answer!

by Dei on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Form the moment this event was announced back in August 2019, I set expectations for what would be in store for this experience. Those expectations were quickly blown through the roof by the highly entertaining opening acts and to top it all off, getting to see a band I've loved since I was a child ring in the new decade. Kudos to the Barclays Center for hosting a hometown favorite act and ensuring that our experience was of high quality!

  • The Strokes go to Brooklyn.

by Gabe on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

I seemed impressed by the way they came in They told us a story, they were not boring" I was afraid that they would insist (on playing Angles). "They didn't sound so sleepy, they took it, now leave me" I said, please don't slow me down if I'm going too fast You're in a strange part of our town (Brooklyn) Yeah, the night's not over, you're not trying hard enough (until 12am) Our lives are changing lanes, you ran me off the road The wait is over, I'm now taking over You're no longer laughing, I'm not drowning fast enough

  • Barclays doing it wrong

    by P. L. on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5

I don't know who said going cashless was a good idea, but it was terrible. I usually bring a certain amount of money with me so I know how much I spend while I'm drinking. Well there was no way to do that when I have to use a card every time I bought a drink. Not to mention I'm pretty sure I got overcharged, but it was new year's eve and I can't remember how many rounds I bought. (I would know if I had cash left in my pocket). That being said, what is with the concessions that make you use a computer to order stuff yourself when there are 5 people standing there. I finally figured out the computer, paid for it, then waited a few minutes for a printer to print the order just for someone to come get it from another person to give it to me. I mean there is a lady there just to tell other guys there is a ticket on the printer! It is all way too time consuming when a concert is going on. I know you guys just do tickets and have nothing to do with this, but it's not like Barclays is asking me about my experience and I want to complin to someone....

  • Disappointed

    by J. F. on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 1 out of 5

Strokes played for barely one hour. I’ve never been to such a short performance by any band. Showed no enthusiasm for a full arena. No charisma. Very smug about not doing any encore, even though it was New Year’s Eve. I’m a big fan, but this was not worth the high ticket price and a total buzz kill.

  • Still amazing since I last saw them in 2006!

    by Irena S. on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

The Strokes gave an amazing performance, and sound as brilliant as they did 13 years ago, which is the last time I saw them in concert. Julian might need some coaching with his patter from onstage, however. He came off as rather cynical. All in all, the Strokes are awesome and I would see them again, but sooner this time.

  • Great venue as always, strange artists.

by Lia on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

The venue itself and the staff there is always a pleasure; whoever scheduled the artists set times needed a bit more padding. Waited almost an hour for the headliners. Although they did play past midnight, which was a worry of ours.

  • Finally got to see them

    by R. F. on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

The Strokes were amazing! Great, fun energy that truly rocked. A must see

  • Underwhelmed

by Hardtoexplain on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5

70 minute show, mediocre openers, poor sound, they’re an awesome band, but this was pretty much just any other gig for them, and the building was too low energy because of it

  • Killer

by Bre on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Killer show. Julien is funny as hell. Mac demarco, the opener, was also awesome.

  • What Could Have Been.

    by J. on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

I upgraded to VIP and the lack of information and direction was a bit frustrating. After spending money on dinner prior to the show and $80 on the first round of drinks at the venue, we figured out we we were entitled to an open bar and food. My biggest gripe is how the commemorative poster was not mailed out or able to be picked up after the show. My friends and I had floor tickets and obviously none of our posters made it through the show.

  • Good but not great

    by J. K. on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5

Honestly I know the seats were not great but the sound was kind of off the entire show. The band sounded muffled from the minute they came on and it was really hard to understanding what they were even singing. It was a good show but really frustrating to pay $100+ to be unable to really hear!

  • Average experience

by Jeremy on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 3 out of 5

Cool event but Julians voice was not loud enough for the accompaniment. Very cool counting down 2019 with the band and all the warmups on stage.

  • Great show ! Strokes came on so Late !

    by Jodigirl1970 on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 4 out of 5

Show was awesome they just took forever to hit the stage !

  • short set

    by G. G. on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 2 out of 5

The band came out 40 minutes late and played a short set. Disappointing considering how expensive tickets were.

  • Great experience

by Nadia on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

All the staff at Barclay’s was so friendly and helpful. Which was amazing because it was NYE and there were some rowdy teens about. The arena was clean and we had great seats. Barclays broadcasted time square for the one minute ball drop countdown and they blasted multi colored confetti at midnight. Best of all, The Strokes were incredible. They sounded better than ever. Thank you Barclays for bringing The Strokes back to NYC.

  • Their performance was good but I could barely hear Julian

    by E. C. on 1/3/20Barclays Center - BrooklynRating: 5 out of 5

Performance was phenomenal but the drinks were super expensive and I could barely hear Julian. Maybe a sound check next time.
