The Rolling Stones on Tour

If anyone were ever after a definition of rock 'n' roll, one Rolling Stones song would be worth a thousand words. When it comes to large-scale rock tours, there's nobody more experienced than the Stones at making a capacious arena concert feel like a down 'n' dirty roadhouse gig. That the Stones' excursions have been some of the most successful tours in history — from the mid-'90s Voodoo Lounge Tour to the early-'00s Licks Tour and beyond — is emblematic of how much their music speaks to their millions of fans across the globe. And even after all these decades, when Mick Jagger struts, sways, shouts and croons, and Keith Richards reaches deep into wherever his mojo comes from and rings out those raw, immortal riffs of his, there's an indefinable magic in the air — the kind that rock 'n' roll legends are made of.

The Rolling Stones in Concert

The Rolling Stones started out as part of the so-called British Invasion that overwhelmed American ears in the mid '60s, but alone among their contemporaries they've managed to move with the times and remain vital. The Stones have gone through many eras of musical evolution along the way, of course. In their early years they were obsessed with American blues and R&B, and they channeled those influences into their own brand of raw-boned rock 'n' roll. Before the '60s were over they'd experimented with everything from baroque pop to tripped-out psychedelia. But by the early '70s the Stones had returned to their roots on legendary albums like Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main St. They subsequently found their way into funk, disco and more. In the '90s they incorporated electronics into their production without abandoning their rootsy magic. And after the turn of the millennium, the Stones found new ways to connect with their early inspirations, as on their 2016 LP Blue & Lonesome. Astonishingly, through it all they've managed to hold tightly onto their hard-earned tag, The World's Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band.

    A totally amazing show

by JeffAU on 5/22/24Allegiant Stadium - Las Vegas

5/5 for the show. From the start, through to the finish, the show was amazing. Mick and the band owned the stage and the crowd. This show was far above expectations and I would, if I could, see them again. 2/5 for Allegiant Stadium. Good seats mean nothing when everyone stands up so from me, not a great venue

iL Buono, IL Brutto & iL Cattivo

by J. Jack Flash on 5/21/24Allegiant Stadium - Las Vegas

The Good: New backup singer Chanel Haynes brought a great energy to Gimme Shelter. During the vocal interplay w/Jagger towards the end her voice cracked perfectly hitting the note (just like Merry Clayton's 1969 recording from Let it Bleed.) Even Lisa Fischer's tours were never able to recoup that sound of Pure Terror that provides the cathartic experience of pushing that song over the top. And Chanel's so beautiful as well...if she goes back to playing Tina Turner on Broadway, I'm there. The RED animation during Sympathy looked amazing. Honkey Tonk Women, Paint it, Black & JJF sounded great towards the end when the mixing board guys decided to get their act together. The Bad: Opening Act Pretty Reckless...marginal talent & poor songwriting for a crowd getting ready to hear iconic Jagger/Richards compositions...buzzkill of eager anticipation for what could be their last hurrah now in their 80's...everybody just wanted it to end. Also Mick forgot the words to Tumblin Dice at the start of the song?..inexcusable especially for a tune that defines the City of Vega$ it's being performed in......the band was out of synch & couldn't find the groove that whole song...if there's one number the band needed to get right...really killed the energy mid-concert unfortunately. & the Ugly: There's an old saying among performing bands...you're only as good as yer sound guy...maybe Jagger's ear piece fell out on Tumblin'? I know the buildings roof can't be retracted, causing echos etc...but the sound was inferior to their 2021 outing at same stadium...mixers needed to be fired after this debacle. Thinking back on it now, setlist was somewhat weak...supposedly the crowd voted for You got me Rockin (a mid-90's malasise dud that never really gets off the ground.) Maybe could've replaced Let's Spend the Nite Together w/the sonically superior 19th Nervous Breakdown from that era to get the energy going? You Can't Always Get was scaled back compared to their more fun expanded 2021 tour tent revival versions. Dylan's Like a Rollin' Stone would have been more appropos for a Minnesota show...it's not really a song that allows Jagger to show off his dance moves which makes their concerts so much fun...for the first time in my life, I was actually bored during one of their shows. Guess they couldn't be bothered to do more from their excellent Jimmy Miller production era (whose dad ran the International Hotel in Vegas I believe?) Maybe dust off an old Exile nugget like Casino Boogie for Jagger to do that famous barnyard rooster strut along to? I think there would've been at least one cool story about "Mr. Jimmy"to share w/the crowd. Had the potential to be great...but execution was maybe a C+ sadly.

    What an amazing concert!

by PattyG on 5/21/24Allegiant Stadium - Las Vegas

One of the best concerts I’ve been to. Mick Jagger still has moves at 80 years old. Skipping down the stage even. Simply amazing.

This was the 6th time I’d seen the Stones. Again, another fantastic show. It’s hard to believe Mick Jagger is over 80 years old. They are the greatest rock and roll band of all time.👍👍👍

    Awesome

by Yeah Baby on 5/21/24Lumen Field - Seattle

The Rolling Stones. Need I say more? The band was awesome with Mick running around like he was in his 30's. Just a great show with Ronnie & Keith on Guitar and their new drummer Steve Jordan. One thing I really thought was cool was they gave backup singers and others their individual limelight.

    Simply Amazing!

by John F., Henderson NV on 5/21/24Allegiant Stadium - Las Vegas

Simply Amazing! I've been a Rolling Stones fan for almost half a century, but this was my first concert. The energy, talent, and unbridled exuberance of Mick, Keith, Ron and the other performers was amazing. The setlist included 16 favorite classics plus 3 new songs that were great. Chanel Haynes killed it on Gimme Shelter (I get chills just thinking about it). They went non-stop for about two hours. Keith sang a few songs while Mick took a quick break, which then dramatically segued into Sympathy for the Devil. For the encore Mick (accompanied by Chanel) gave a very emotional performance of Sweet Sounds of Heaven (a song I had never heard before that brought tears to my eyes) that then immediately transitioned to a high-energy rendition of Satisfaction. How can Mick possibly be skipping the full length of the stage, singing at the full force of his lungs, after already performing for two hours? My wife of nearly forty years is in the late stages or a terminal illness, so when I bought the tickets in the Fall we didn't even know if she would make it to the concert in May, but I'm so happy that she did. She loved the concert as much as I did. Thank-you to Mick, Keith, Ron, and everyone else, for such a wonderful experience and a great memory!

    Saved by the Stones

by WAM on 5/21/24Lumen Field - Seattle

I hav been to eight Stones shows and I have NEVER been so disappointed with the opening act. Joe Bonamossa and his band were THE WORST that I have ever seen! Their “music” was nothing less than a steaming pile of reverb and over-playing of the guitar. Most of his “tunes” were horrible and the mixing didn’t help a bit. THANKFULLY, the Stones saved the evening. They looked and sounded great! Wish they would have played “Mess it up”, but the oldies stood up just fine. I wonder WHY Mick chose such a terrible opener when he has always had great bands like DMB, Sheryl Crow, J. Giles, etc….?
