About

The Rock Orchestra By Candlelight are a band of classical musicians from the United Kingdom who transform rock and metal songs into dark symphonies. The group of 14 musicians regularly performs concerts bathed in an ethereal candlelit glow as they turn songs by AC/DC, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Linkin Park and more into swirling, dark rhapsodies that bridge the chasm between metal, hard rock and classical music. In 2024, The Rock Orchestra will embark on a tour of their native U.K. as well as Europe and the U.S. to present their thrilling new 90-minute show.

  • Absolutely Awesome and Amazing!

    by Leilani-Ann on 11/23/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

I never thought that the mixture of Rock and an Orchestra could come out so amazing and powerfully beautiful. The musicians playing are quite the artists of their instruments including the singers of their voices. I would love to see them again when they come this way next time. Next time I will probably bring a friend or two and not just my Husband. Thank you for such an amazing experience.

  • Rock Orchestra by Candlelight

by Gunny on 11/23/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 4 out of 5

Interesting concept - orchestral treatment of rock classics, heavy on violins and woodwinds. Particularly successful on Led Zeppelin, Hosier, and Cranberries material; particularly unsuccessful on Guns 'N Roses material. Smashing drummer. My wife liked it a lot, I liked it OK. Goth/Steam Punk regalia and Vincent Price stage set was bemusing, but explains the "by Candlelight"part of the title - electric tealights (it's easier) were everywhere.

  • Unique masterpieces of Rock

by Pemigirl on 11/23/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

From start to finish, this show provides a captivating unique experience. Defined staging sets the mood for the majestic music by gifted artists. The Rock is familiar with a one of a kind twist that will have you along for the journey and taking an instrumental adventure. Did not want the performance to end!

  • Okay...just okay

by gvmartinez on 11/23/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 3 out of 5

The volume and the vocals overshadow the orchestra. I understand, and enjoy Metal, but it's more Rock than Orchestra. Also, the venue has awful acoustics.

  • Exceeded expectations

I had such a great time at the show! I didn’t know what to expect going in, but it completely exceeded my expectations. My only regret is sitting in the balcony—I definitely want to be closer next time!

  • Nothing short of amazing

by Julie on 11/23/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

Overall, amazing show. I am a huge rock fan. I was curious how they were going to manipulate the sounds of certain bands but they proved me wrong repeatedly. Highly recommended to everyone.

  • A must see event!

by Rock with class! on 11/23/25Chrysler Hall - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

It was more than expected! The orchestra was amazing and the singers, well there is not enough to say but the violinist, she owned the stage and would you leaving thinking there was a guitar playing. The brass section was crisp and motivated, the drummer on beat and percussion on bell. All around the show was amazing and look forward to their return to Norfolk, VA!

This show truly pulled at my rocker heart strings. It was fun, dynamic, and so skillful. It was the perfect mixture between the strings, the percussion, and the voices. 100% recommend!

  • Not worth the money

by Tip on 11/20/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

The musicians are very talented. Male singer was off key. Overall show was kind of cheesy and not right for the venue.

  • AMAZING!!

by The Girls on 11/20/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

This was our girls outing event who all love the classic rock music. We knew we would love it but the show exceeded ALL of our expectations!! It was out of this world amazing! We were sad when it was over and wanted it to last longer. We will definitely attend again when back in NC next year!

  • Gothic Fun!

by Patricia on 11/20/25DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

The playlist was amazing, the costumes, theatricals the music, all awesome. the acoustics of the venue weren't the best all the time - it was more noticeable when there was singing and playing. When there was only instruments it was a superior quality of sound. That is the only reason I did not give it a 5 star review!! We had so much fun and created so many memories!!

The voices were incredible. I loved sitting back and taking in the sounds of familiar rock songs in a different way. I would definitely go again!
