THE PROCLAIMERS IN CONCERT:
Celtic rock duo The Proclaimers has been charming audiences around the world with their sunny Scottish accents and jangly pop tunes for the past three decades. Stateside fans first caught wind of twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid when their song "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" reached No. 3 in the US after appearing in the hit 1993 film Benny & Joon, and they've had a devoted following ever since thanks to their unique Scottish rock sound and rousing live shows. In concert the brothers are all smiles and upbeat energy, leading fans through sing-alongs of favorites like "Sunshine on Leith" and "I'm on My Way" while their backing band kicks out a pub-ready brew of organ, fiddle, and drums. But the highlight of every show is the anthemic and celebratory "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)", one of the most insanely fun songs ever written and a serious party starter no matter the venue.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Leith, Scotland-born Craig and Charlie Reid cut their teeth playing in punk bands in high school before forming The Proclaimers in 1983. They got a boost a few years later when a fan sent their demo to British indie rock group The Housemartins, who were so impressed that they invited the brothers on their 1986 UK tour. The exposure set the stage for The Proclaimers 1987 debut album This Is the Story, which went gold thanks to Top 3 single "Letter from America". Their 1988 sophomore album Sunshine on Leith was an even bigger success, cracking the Top 10 in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand on the strength of ubiquitous 1988 mega-hit "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)". The song initially failed to chart in America, but that wasn't the final word—it became a Top 3 hit in the US five years later when it was featured on the soundtrack of the Jonny Depp-starring feature film Benny & Joon. Since then The Proclaimers have toured extensively while maintaining a steady output, including a 2007 comedy version of "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" which was recorded for charity and ended up topping the UK Singles Chart.

The whole event was absolutely amazing, The girl who opened for them had the voice of a Celtic angel - The Proclaimers sounded as good as they ever have. They sang a few of their new songs, saving the old ones for the last half - Everyone was dancing and having a great time. Worth every penny- also great seats!
I enjoyed the Proclaimers at FirstOntario Concert Hall. The venue is excellent, good sound, convenient parking and proximity to places to eat if you want to make an evening of it. Siobhan Wilson opened and was pretty good, I'd like to see her with a band. The Proclaimers hit the stage and played a friendly fun show. They seemed to be enjoying themselves and the audience was clearly appreciative of the band. About half way through the show they dedicated a song to a couple who had driven from Kentucky to the show and wore shirts which said "I drove 500 miles to see The Proclaimers", they were clearly thrilled. They played for close to two hours and played their old hits and newer songs as well. I'd like to see them again.
I came for the opening act.. which didn't go on. So I stayed for the show anyway, and was happy I did. Great rhythm and beats were enjoyed in this Scottish influenced music. I only knew one song of theirs, but upon hearing some of it, I went home to look up more of their work. Personally, I could understand little of the lyrics or the talking between songs.
Haven't had that much fun at a concert in a long time. Lots of clapping, foot tapping and singing along!
The crowd was quiet, listened as though it was a back yard concert of an unknown band, with unknown lyrics. The only excitement that came from the audience was when 500 miles was played. The cost of the concert was worth the entertainment, however I won't ever pay to see them again. It was a bit painful to endure 20songs (not exactly sure the exact set list) with similar tune before the hit everyone was waiting for., 500 Miles.
Fantastic concert - great seats for a reasonable price for retired people. The brothers' harmonies are as good as ever. The lead guitar player played amazingly. He even put in some Peter Townsend moves. Acoustics at the Burton Cumming's venue are still good. The opening act, Jenny O had some problems getting going - but got up to speed at the end of her set.
I haven't seen The Proclaimers in at least two years, and they were in great form! They played everything that I wanted to hear and more! The new sound system in this venue really added to the experience, and the crowd was really into it. Whenever you see The Guy in the Kilt you know that it's a great Proclaimers show!
Superb and spirited concert of Proclaimers songs at The Brighton Music Hall. The acoustics were, unfortunately, typical of a bar, rather than a venue constructed to deliver crystal clear sound. On the other hand, seeing a band of their notoriety in such a small setting (for $25) is not often possible. Catch The Proclaimers during their tour, if you have the opportunity. You won't be disappointed.
This was my first time seeing The Proclaimers and it was truly an unforgettable night! The opener was great and the band was very prompt and had a ton of energy. They played most of their biggest hits and then played some less well known songs off of the new album and more recent albums. The sound was fantastic and I was so impressed with their band. After the show they came to the front of the venue and signed merchandise and took pictures with fans. I cannot express enough how kind Charlie and Craig were to their fans. They really took time and spoke with everyone and took lots of pictures. The band came out after the performance as well and mingled with the fans. I spoke to each member and they were so gracious and thanked me for coming, and spent time just chatting. It was a really lovely experience.
Venue was perfect to host The Proclaimers. Didn't know what to expect given the years since we saw them last, but they didn't miss a beat. Same energy - same harmonies with nearly perfect vocalization - band was great (excell guitarist).....opening girl Jenny O is a great songwriter - very surprised and wished she had a band with her, but all around great show.
