PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN CONCERT:
In case the name left any shred of doubt, let's be clear: alt-rock outfit the Presidents of the United States of America are out to have fun. Rising to fame with hilariously quirky songs like "Kitty" and "Lump" from their self-titled 1995 debut, the band brought a welcome dose of Dada to the traditionally weighty alternative rock landscape, matching the playfulness of their music with their zany, energy-filled live shows. Hot on the heels of 2014's cheekily titled Kudos to You!, the band returns to the road for a tour that's sure to rock and amuse in equal measure.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in Seattle in 1993, the Presidents of the United States of America played local venues and hawked cassettes at bars before rising to overnight fame with their self-titled 1995 debut. Despite, or perhaps thanks to, the band's head-scratching lyrics and playful song structures, the album struck a major chord with audiences, going triple-platinum and spawning hit singles like "Peaches" and "Lump." 1996 sophomore album II was also a success, landing on charts around the world and scoring the band another hit with "Mach 5." After weathering several breakups and reunions in the '00s, the band returned in 2014 with a fan-funded new album Kudos to You!, hitting the road for a tour in support of the long-awaited release.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Love the Presidents! These guys put on such a fantastic, high-energy show. They're wonderful musicians who connect really well with the audience, and they're adorable to boot."
"Presidents of the United States were AWESOME! High-energy, great sound. They did their first set then did the entire first album start to finish - it was AMAZING!"
"This was an unforgettable, amazing show. Presidents of the USA were funny, energetic, and gratefulto the fans. They played new songs as well as their entire first album."
Great stage show, great tunes, all around a great experience.
Great show. They played everything I wanted to hear, except for Naked and Famous. Took me back to 1995, in a good way!
The Presidents brought a lot of energy and played most every song you would expect to hear. I would have liked to hear electric spider from the new cd but oh well. They had a great opening band, Charlie Pattons War, I think they were students from IU. The second opening band was not so entertaining, very slow and mopey, not what I needed before a high energy show. Drinks were expensive $16 for a 24oz sierra nevada pale ale and $10 for a 10oz single vodka and tonic.
I knew this was going to be a fun show, because their songs are fun and energetic, but the Presidents still managed to blow me away! They bring so much energy to the stage, and I got the impression that they were really having fun up there. Great show and a great time!
Very good show!! Sound was amazing, played the best of the new and the best of the old , Kudos to you! I will travel to see this band again this summer, and so should you!!! I wish they would have played ladybug and mixed up sob,
Great show! Brought back the 90s! Played over 70 minutes. All the radio hits and then some.
Excellent! I expected nothing less. The Presidents are a very fun band. This is a show you can go see and know nothing about the and still have a great time.
Got the pleasure of seeing the Presidents of the USA at the House of Blues in Los Angeles last May. This was without a doubt the most fun concert I have been to. The band played through their debut album in its entirety, and the entire audience was singing along the entire time. It was a wonderful atmosphere and such a fun show. Presidents rock!
POTUS pulled out all the stops. We were singing and dancing all night. A great show and a welcomed set with the first album covered - side A and side B. Every song you wanted to hear and then some.
Love the Presidents! These guys put on such a fantastic, high-energy show. They're wonderful musicians who connect really well with the audience, and they're adorable to boot. The debut album has lost none of its appeal and the band truly seemed to enjoy revisiting the songs. We danced and jumped and clapped our hands and walked out into the fresh early morning air, sweaty and tired and totally happy. Thanks so much, PUSA.
Excellent Concert! The band was able to play near none stop and keep the good and fun time rolling. My favorite moment would be when after playing a few songs from different albums, the singer says, "well we said we would play songs from our first album, how about we play it through." That is exactly what they did!
...were AWESOME! High-energy, great sound. They did their first set then did the entire first album start to finish - it was AMAZING! I saw them a few years ago at the House of Blues in Boston for the first time and swore I would never miss them again. One of the most fun bands to see live ever - and I go to a lot of shows.
I should have remembered to get in a good position when we showed up early, make sure the drum kit for the main act is not obstructed by the speakers. We made that mistake and could see the opening acts with no issue, but only 2/3rds of the main act. The speakers on stage and the 2 poles in the standing area can be a visual obstruction, as a result we couldn't see the drummer for the main act. It didn't hinder the performance, which was exceptional. The opening act (You Scream I Scream) was very very good, with good personalities, engaging the crowd and having a good time. It looked like they were having fun, so we did as well. The second act was forgettable, the drummer was nuts though, he barely used his wrists so his arms were moving a million miles an hour. The Presidents were absolutely incredible. Better live than they are on their albums. High energy, clear vocals and instruments, non-stop perfection. It was cool to hear Chris' stories from his times living in Boston, they were loving the crowd. It was a childhood dream to hear them perform their debut album cover to cover, and it was worth the wait. I only wish I could see them more often, this concert was definitely top 5 for my lifetime. The crowd was a mix of younger professionals and college kids? The college aged kids in the front rows were pretty rowdy, unruly and disrespectful. It looked like a group of friends were bunched together, it seemed like every :20 a couple more kids would elbow their way through to join the herd. One of the worst offenders was pretty belligerent from the start, he kept leaning into the handicap area despite a nice security guard trying to keep the order. He got tossed 5 minutes before main act came on, it looked like he spit on a lady in a wheelchair, so her husband started to take some swings at the kid. The Allston/BU crowd was the only bad aspect to the show.
This was an unforgettable amazing show. Presidents of the USA were funny, energetic, and grateful to the fans. They played new songs as well as their entire first album. The atmosphere of the Stone Pony gave everyone a intimate connection with them, and a place I will definitely return to.
these guys are seasoned performers and they deliver the goods sweeter than a can of peaches! one of the best i've seen!!
I've seen tons of my favorite artists play thousands of shows in hundreds of venues and I am not exaggerating when I say that finally getting to see PUSA at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ was the most entertaining, funny, and memorable live show I've ever seen. The guys work incredibly hard to give you an incredible live show- they interact with the fans and are quick on their feet. I wish I could see them every weekend.
Fantastic concert. The Presidents of the USA had high energy and the fact they played their first album from start to finish was absolutely amazing. Will definitely go see them again when they come around.
Amazing show! It was nerd central, but I felt right at home. PUSA was highly entertaining and it was great to see them at such a historic location. ROCK ON.
The Presidents were one of the best shows ive seen in years. Still rockin hard after 20 years. I would go again if i could. The crowd had so much positive energy it was just incredible.
They had it all once again, the energy, the fun, the knowledge of songs you can not find anywhere but at a live concert. tickets were cheap but id pay more cause the show overall was exciting and fun. Hope to see them real soon
