About

There was no doubt that the Misfits had earned their status as punk rock icons when their latest release, Dead Alive – featuring live material taken from two back-to-back concerts the band gave at the Starland Ballroom in 2011 – was released in February 2013. The album came just as the punk pioneers kicked off their 2013 American tour, a spirited series of shows that brought their classic, horror-influenced punk-metal to a whole new generation of ticket buyers. Bassist and frontman, Jerry Only, is at peak form in a concert setting, belting out fans' latter-day favorites, revealing the music's thrashing metal influence to its fullest effect. Never straying from the band's hard-driving, melodic sensibilities, the setlist delivers amped-up power, and the audience can't help but get revved up right along with it. Dead Alive reached No. 70 on the Billboard Top 200, and it showcases an intense atmosphere, as the band proves that even after all these years, the Misfits can still deliver the goods.

Emerging in 1977, the Misfits set the stage for a new subgenre of hardcore. Frontman Glenn Danzig's affinity for classic horror movies and literature gave the band a year-round Halloween flavor. Mixing this flair for theatrics with a hard, primal sound quickly sucked in a cult of dedicated fans. After Danzig's departure in 1983 and a couple of changes in lineup, the band pressed on. With the addition of punk veterans Dez Cadena and Marky Ramone, Jerry Only stepped up as frontman, and the band enjoyed a revitalized resurgence. With song titles like "Crawling Eye," "Night of the Living Dead" and "We Bite," the band's love of classic B-grade horror movies is evident. They reflect this love, coming at the listener in torrents of fright-filled energy. The perfect blend of punk and metal allows snarling vocals and thrashing guitars to war for dominance.

The Misfits were amazing as always! They were definitely worth the wait, although I didn't think there needed to be 5 bands before them. I only thought two of them were really good. which was disappointing.

    OH the Horror-punk!

by Imperfektx on 10/27/09Jaxx Nightclub - Springfield

The entire show was spectacular: from the opening band "Pogo", who played a short, yet very entertaining set; to the return of local Horror Gods "So Damn Thirsty" who delivered an electrifying and entertaining show as always; And of course, the main event, the return of living legends "The Misfits" who brutalized their adoring fans with an incredible, awe-inspiring set which included classics like "Astro Zombies" and "Helena", a superb rendition of the punk classic "Rise Above", and a couple new songs.

    Great show

    by Kjester75 on 10/26/09Jaxx Nightclub - Springfield

Jaxx is a great place to see a show at. The sound and lighting was really good. Drink prices were average for a night out. Decent sized crowd with a mix of ages. All of the opening acts were worth seeing, local bands for the most part. It would seem that Cab Ride Home was a crowd favorite, and for good reason, they rocked. Misfits took the stage and (1,2,3,4...) machinegunned through their setlist. Not a bad thing at all though. It was high intensity and high volume. I can't remember the whole setlist but it was very similar to Allentown, Pa's show last year. (google it). They opened with "Halloween". Jerry seemed to be enjoying himself, he even smiled a time or two. They played one of their new songs, "Land of the Dead". That song ROCKS!. Jerry stayed after the set and signed aoutographs and blessed people with his trademark eyeblack. All of us Fiends left happy.

This event was horrible until the misfits came on

by Kidslikeus on 10/24/09Peabody's Downunder - Cleveland

Seriously and underage fee of $3 dollars, what a great way to make up in alcohol sales.. All the locals where the most annoying bands i've ever heard, felt like it was a huge rock band or guitar hero show. It was not until 11 the misfits came on and the vocals weren't even loud enough to hear what jerry was saying, not worth it. never going back to this venue if Black Flags playing.

    no seats

by gird on 10/24/09Peabody's Downunder - Cleveland

I loved the show except for the fact that there were no seats in the entire place, so we had to stand for 7 hours and it wasnt even over when we left.

While I enjoyed the performances, I was disappointed that the Misfitsdid not come out until 11????. The venue floor was slippery. And there were no seats anywhere in site. I love the Misfits! Peabody's not so much!

    got loud?

    by blindskater1313 on 10/19/09Altar Bar - Pittsburgh

the misfits were the loudest band that i have herd in my life... i saw them last year at Mr.smalls and they were pretty loud there but with the alter bar being smaller the sound echoed like mad but overall the misfits were the greatest band. jerry only is a person that can really speak to the crowd. the other bands that played with them were really terrible minus the last local band (the orange something band) they were decient... but overall great show!

    Misfits gave a killer show

by punkscientist on 10/19/09Altar Bar - Pittsburgh

Eventhough the venue was too small and it effected the quality of the sound The MIsfits put on an unforgivable nonstop show. The was the BEST show I have seen all year beating out Warp tour, AFI, Social D and several other small venue concerts too numerous to name. The opening act Code Orange Kids were good too except for the feedback that was occuring. I hope to see the Misfits in Pittsburgh again.

Great band but a questionable set list and for $30 total cost, ya gotta play longer than 45-55 minutes.

    Misfits in Chicago

by OneLastCaress on 8/13/09House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

I have to admit that I wasn't expecting such an awesome show by the MIsfits. Mainly it's because I was such a huge fan of the Glenn Danzig era I figured that anything else would be a cheap imitation. I don't think I could have been more wrong. Jerry does an excellent job on the vocal and Dez Cadena even took the mic for a few Black Flag songs. One of the best concert's I've been to in a long time. The only thing that sucks is having to drive all the way to Chicago to see them. The Misfits need to come to the Quad Cities one of these days. The House of Blues is a pretty nice place too. Not too big, not too small. Favorite part of the night was Last Caress and also Rise Above. Least favorite was at the end when Jerry let everyone know that the Misfits box set went gold and he brought out these wall displays that people in the Fiend Club could buy. It reminded me a little bit of KISS. Not a huge deal though.
