About

There was no doubt that the Misfits had earned their status as punk rock icons when their latest release, Dead Alive – featuring live material taken from two back-to-back concerts the band gave at the Starland Ballroom in 2011 – was released in February 2013. The album came just as the punk pioneers kicked off their 2013 American tour, a spirited series of shows that brought their classic, horror-influenced punk-metal to a whole new generation of ticket buyers. Bassist and frontman, Jerry Only, is at peak form in a concert setting, belting out fans' latter-day favorites, revealing the music's thrashing metal influence to its fullest effect. Never straying from the band's hard-driving, melodic sensibilities, the setlist delivers amped-up power, and the audience can't help but get revved up right along with it. Dead Alive reached No. 70 on the Billboard Top 200, and it showcases an intense atmosphere, as the band proves that even after all these years, the Misfits can still deliver the goods.

Emerging in 1977, the Misfits set the stage for a new subgenre of hardcore. Frontman Glenn Danzig's affinity for classic horror movies and literature gave the band a year-round Halloween flavor. Mixing this flair for theatrics with a hard, primal sound quickly sucked in a cult of dedicated fans. After Danzig's departure in 1983 and a couple of changes in lineup, the band pressed on. With the addition of punk veterans Dez Cadena and Marky Ramone, Jerry Only stepped up as frontman, and the band enjoyed a revitalized resurgence. With song titles like "Crawling Eye," "Night of the Living Dead" and "We Bite," the band's love of classic B-grade horror movies is evident. They reflect this love, coming at the listener in torrents of fright-filled energy. The perfect blend of punk and metal allows snarling vocals and thrashing guitars to war for dominance.

The Misfits: A night to forget

by DisappointedinBigD on 11/30/09House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

I guess the opening band was a forewarning of what was to come. It started off bad and didn't get any better. We left early and dissapointed. I have never heard a band butcher their own songs quite like that. It was terrible. I would not recommend this show if it's coming your way.

    Misfits awesome

by Lars747 on 11/30/09House of Blues Houston - Houston

Great show--no doubt. They held it down as a three piece well. Jerry's stepping up to the vocal plate! The new "Land of he Dead" songs rocked hard, and of course the hits were fast and furious. Dug the Black Flag tracks sung by Dez too! A fun night.

    the Misfits

by Squibb on 11/29/09House of Blues Houston - Houston

First of all, House of Blues over here is great. It's very intimate yet spacious - lol - anyway i saw the Misfits last night and they were badass. it was crowded and every single song had a mosh pit that just grew and grew til it ranged almost the whole floor in front. the energy was amazing, the have a billion songs but did play some of the more popular ones. will definitely be there next time

    Misfits @ Key Club

by xxxmisfitsxxx on 11/24/09Key Club - Los Angeles

The opening band sucked. The Misfits were okay, they aren't the originals...there's the guy from Black Flag and the original drummer from the Misfits, they played the songs too fast and they don't sound the same because the lead singer of the Misfits isn't there anymore. The overall concert was entertaining and I'm glad I went but, it's like any band...don't claim your the Misfit's when there is only one original guy....doesn't make sense.

After 30 Years, They Still Got It

by SirPsychotheDestroyer on 11/21/09Galaxy Theatre - Santa Ana

The Stage looked great. The only thing I have against it was the mic setup. I mean I knew the songs but the mic would drop and come back up... then drop again... that's probably the thing they do cause even the mic check was the same way... Tracklist was great. Started with old stuff, went into Michael Graves tracks after the first intermission and mixed it all up after the second one...

They need Graves back in a big way. Jerry butchered American Psycho and dig up her bones. Horrible sound at the whiskey, could barely tell what songs they were playing until the chorus came up. Will never pay to see the Misfits again.

The event was nothing short of amazing. Not only were Misfits themselves amazing, but the opening bands were good too. Peabody's was a great place to have this event, and the cheap tickets added to the enjoyment.

    The MISFITS were AWESOME!

    by METAL3983 on 10/31/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME SHOW! MISFITS ROCK!!! I went to see them 4 years ago at the Starland Ballroom and a friend got really intoxicated and he got kicked out so we all ended up leaving before the Misfits played. Total bummer. But now, 4 years later, we came, we saw, we conquered!!! It was bloody awesome!!!

    MIsfits make mischief night!

by thenoodlebandit on 10/31/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

I got there just before Johnny B. Morbid went on, and they were alright. I felt kind of bad that the crowd didn't really respond that well to them, because they weren't bad. Next up was Municipal, and they were pretty awesome. Their singer had great stage presence and was a lot of fun to watch. I wanted to buy their cd, but when I went out after their set, I didn't see any merch for them, which was disappointing. Then came the Misfits! Of course they came out after the halloween theme and started off their set with Halloween. They played a bunch of songs without stopping and sped up a lot of their older tunes. Then there was a block of songs off Famous Monsters (my favorite!) which just made my night. My four favorites all in a row: Saturday NIght (which was phenomenal), Dig Up Her Bones, Kong at the Gates/Forbidden Zone (my absolute favorite), and Helena. They closed with Die, Die My Darling and Jerry Only stayed o sign stuff. I can't imagine spending mischief night any other way!
