About

There was no doubt that the Misfits had earned their status as punk rock icons when their latest release, Dead Alive – featuring live material taken from two back-to-back concerts the band gave at the Starland Ballroom in 2011 – was released in February 2013. The album came just as the punk pioneers kicked off their 2013 American tour, a spirited series of shows that brought their classic, horror-influenced punk-metal to a whole new generation of ticket buyers. Bassist and frontman, Jerry Only, is at peak form in a concert setting, belting out fans' latter-day favorites, revealing the music's thrashing metal influence to its fullest effect. Never straying from the band's hard-driving, melodic sensibilities, the setlist delivers amped-up power, and the audience can't help but get revved up right along with it. Dead Alive reached No. 70 on the Billboard Top 200, and it showcases an intense atmosphere, as the band proves that even after all these years, the Misfits can still deliver the goods.

Emerging in 1977, the Misfits set the stage for a new subgenre of hardcore. Frontman Glenn Danzig's affinity for classic horror movies and literature gave the band a year-round Halloween flavor. Mixing this flair for theatrics with a hard, primal sound quickly sucked in a cult of dedicated fans. After Danzig's departure in 1983 and a couple of changes in lineup, the band pressed on. With the addition of punk veterans Dez Cadena and Marky Ramone, Jerry Only stepped up as frontman, and the band enjoyed a revitalized resurgence. With song titles like "Crawling Eye," "Night of the Living Dead" and "We Bite," the band's love of classic B-grade horror movies is evident. They reflect this love, coming at the listener in torrents of fright-filled energy. The perfect blend of punk and metal allows snarling vocals and thrashing guitars to war for dominance.

Waited 25 years - totally worth it

    by Black on 7/18/23

Probably the best concert I’ve seen three decades. No one sat down. Everyone sung along. Glenn was great with the audience. The fact that they rocked an over 110° heat was amazing. I feel very fortunate to have seen the original Misfits.

Misfits were awesome…everything else…not so much

    by K@ on 7/18/23

The misfits and fear put on a great show per usual. The 2 downsides were that davey havoc of afi sounded awful. It didn’t do the band or their sound any justice. Also the venue is outside and it was scorching hot.

    Hot as hell

    by Kat on 7/18/23

I would have been better to actually show/see the MISTFITS on stage on the big screen. I was at the Janet Jackson show last month and that was very viewable. Yes, my ticket was for the lawn. But being able to see on the big screen was much better. More water misters it was crazy HOT!!!! Portable toilets at the top is a good idea to make permanent and outside in the parking lot. Parking garage is needed!

Never do again a show at July in Phoenix

    by toro on 7/18/23

There was not enough things to prevent heat and people fainting, we waited in line without any kind of protection against the sun that was just roasting everyone, all the artists gave their souls at the show and there was this sound issue with AFI that cut the momentum so many times.

    Epic

    by Star on 7/18/23

Loved the general lawn area, wish we could have had blankets at this show otherwise is was epic! AFI had a great cameraman for the big screen, but the Misifts had no video for the jumbo screens and that was sad. The Misfits had a killer set!

    Exceeded expectations

    by JL on 7/18/23

I wasn’t sure what to expect given the age of the band mates and the intense heat of the outdoor show but they exceeded my expectations. Tons of energy, pretty good sound, great crowd. The whole experience was well worth it.

Amazing show - Perfect Setlist - Terrible Sound

    by PJB on 7/16/23

This was a mind-blowing show for a huge Misfits fan of 40+ years finally seeing them together for the first time. It’s too bad the sound guy apparently didn’t pay any attention to where speakers were placed; so even though we were looking directly down on the side of the stage, we couldn’t hear a thing… there were no speakers pointed anywhere on the sides so every word was muffled. We wound up sneaking into some seats in a section directly facing the stage and it was a completely different experience. Sound guys - you have to make sure the sides and even behind the stage should be able to hear it too.

    the sound was awful.

    by joe m on 7/14/23

i sat in mezzanine, one third of the way back from stage, you could never understand he vocals, be they sung or spoken. The mix of the music was muddy for the entire show. Dont know if this was prudential center fault or the bands. In this day and age and for the high cost of a ticket there is no excuse for bad sound.

The venue itself is great... clean, efficient, easy to navigate. The music was just ok.

    Atrocious Sound

    by DisappointedFiend on 7/12/23

Anyone on stage left could not hear anything, to the point where the arena ushers were asking us if we could hear anything that Danzig was saying. Totally not the Misfits' fault, as they were most likely amazing. The Prudential Center should have addressed the problem after a decent number of people complained.

Great lineup and performance, poor sound

    by Bones on 7/12/23

Bands all did great but the sound was off for the seated sections, at least. Muffled and inaudible mostly. Think it was partly the sound system, partly the arena acoustics. Never had gotten the chance to see these legends before so I was more than excited being a huge fan. Traveled over 6 hours one way for it and spent a decent amount for tickets/lodging, was ultimately disappointed. Would definitely go see them again in a different venue, though.

    See them if you can

    by Dick on 7/11/23

I've seen all 4 Misfits reunion shows in the mid Atlantic region. It gets better every time. They were back with better visuals. They work very well together as a band. They pick the songs as they go based on audience feedback. Glenn Danzig hit the ball out of the park with this performance. Dave Lombardo (Slayer) plays drums and is probably the best drummer still living. The opening acts they pick are always good. It was a long show, they added an unannounced opening act, but they were good. The only part that sucked was most of the audience could not afford to stay for the encore because several trains depart Newark around 11:30. I would travel to see them again it was that good. But unfortunately they may not do too many more shows. See it while you can.
