THE OFFSPRING IN CONCERT:

One of the most famous punk bands of all time, The Offspring are still igniting audiences with their explosive live shows. In concert the band delivers impassioned performances of audience favorites like “Come Out and Play”, “Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)”, and “Gone Away”. With spitfire drums, catchy basslines, and distorted guitars, the band blasts their way through their songs with an adrenaline-fueled blend of polished musicianship and devil-may-care attitude. Coming off their hugely successful Smash: 20th Anniversary Tour, the group is keeping their hot streak alive by bringing their incendiary live shows to audiences around the world.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The Offspring formed in 1986 in Huntington Beach, CA with original members Dexter Holland (vocals/guitar), Greg K. (bass), and Kevin “Noodles” Wasserman (lead guitar). Behind the strength of hit singles “Come Out and Play”, “Self Esteem”, and “Gotta Get Away” the band’s 1994 breakthrough album Smash launched them to international superstardom. They followed up in 1997 with the platinum-certified Ixnay on the Hombre, adding the hits “All I Want” and “Gone Away” to their impressive catalog. Their eclectic 1998 album Americana proved that they were one of the era’s most potent and versatile hit-making machines with the serious tone of megahit “The Kids Aren’t Alright”, which stood in stark contrast to humorous singles like “Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)” and “Why Don’t You Get a Job”. Since then the band has continued to record and release material, including the double-platinum Conspiracy of One in 2000. While working on a follow up to their 2012 album Days Go By, The Offspring continues to bring their music to legions of fans worldwide.

    The Offspring still got it!

by Dirk on 7/9/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

The second The Offspring got on stage, the entire venue went ballistic, and you instantly knew you were going to see a great show that night. The Offspring's blend of high energy, usually fast paced music brings the intensity of a mosh pits and crowd surfing to the audience. However, their diversity of mellow reggae songs, and super catchy choruses will bring the crowd down to a friendly sing along atmosphere as well. The Offspring rocked out for a solid 90 minutes, delivering all their hit songs (that even if you bring some one who claims they had never heard of them, they'll still be able to instantly recognize a minimum of 3 of their songs) and getting the crowd into it. The only problem was the price of the tickets considering the bands playing. After paying $40 a ticket, plus convenience fees and parking I'd expect 1 or 2 good opening acts. However, there was only 1 opening act, who was a solo artist, Frank Turner. Although his music might be good in its own right, it did not match the vibe or styling for a crowd waiting to see the Offspring... It's not surprising at all that he actually ended up getting booed off stage. Next time I'd like to see more than 1 guy with an acoustic guitar singing, how about an actual band that can get the audience pumped up.

Offspring put on an amazing show!!

by KingEric on 7/8/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

They really know how to keep the crowd going, played most of the hits as well as a good mix from Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace. I really enjoyed the set...wished Sum 41 would have opened, standing through two no name openers was not that great, especially Frank Turner. Starland is a great place to see a show, but almost the entire place turns into a giant moshpit!!! Beware if you don't like those kind of things, sort of took me by surprise, but I did really enjoy it a lot. Didn't want the show to end!!!!

    crazy concert

    by dirtyboy257 on 7/8/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

this concert was nasty. im not gunna lie, i thought it was going to be a somewhat mellow concert concerning offspring arent that heavy, but i was wrong. the entire place was filled with energy and it was probably one of the best concerts ive been to. the entire room in the pit was being pushed and everyone got really into it. people were crowdsurfing and had loads of fun. the actual mosh pit was nasty and the entire experience was just nasty as hell.

    They've still got it!

by WEAPONZERO on 7/8/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

I've been an Offspring fan since the early 90's, watching Taylor Steele videos with my cousin. Oddly enough, I'd never made it to a show, until now. The opening acts were terrible, but the Offspring, although getting older, maintained the power that their music has always possessed. The "intermission" was comical, and the piano variation of "Gone Away" was very cool(both unexpected). What was expected, was that they basically just played their hit singles from each album, and played nothing from the self-titled album or "Ignition", which was a major disappointment. Those two albums were better than their last few. Even still, they played great, and it was awesome to be able to see them at a smaller venue.

    Offspring was freakin great

by Daddyrotten on 7/8/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

This was the first show for me to take my 13yr old daughter and 11 year old son. I had had them close to the stage and near the flow of the pit so they could get the full experience yet If things went bad I could get them to a safe place. Dexter and Noodles seemed liked they thrived on the Crew from NJ and for a bunch of 40 something rockers they kicked ass.

So much fun, belted out 21 songs. Crowd was great. Everybody was screaming at the top of their lungs singing along. I'd go see them everyday if I was rich.

The Offspring were pretty much amazing...

by Sami on 7/8/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

...however, if it had taken them any longer to get on stage I think there would have been a riot, and Frank Turner was definitely the wrong choice for an opening act. Does anyone know the name of that first band that played? I liked them.

This concert rocked one of the best I have ever been too. They blew out one of the speakers during the first few songs, but they got it fixed. They played all the old stuff and some of the new stuff and overall it was amazing and I wish they played 3 hours longer!! OFFSPRING ROCK HARD!!!!!!

    The Offspring concert was terrific!

by fangirl on 7/8/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

The warm-up acts were mediocre--the audience was so excited to see The Offspring, that neither warm-up could hold their attention. The Offspring were fantastic! They had tons of energy and really swept the crowd into the show. I had an excellent time.

    THE OFFSPRING WAS AMAZING

by smurphyg on 7/8/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

The wait till The Offspring actually got on stage was 3 hours from when they opened the doors, but the wait was well worth it. Non stop music for an hour, 15 songs played, great energy and stage presence. Awesome concert, definitely something to experience.

Pretty Fly for all white Guys!

by JohnOC on 7/8/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

So I just saw The Offspring last night in Sayreville NJ. I've been there for many concerts but this one was the best. The first two openers (Milan and Frank Turner) were okay but The Offspring stole the show. Coming out to "Sh*t is F*cked up, the energy was great! Throughout the set they played timeless classics such as Pretty Fly, Come out and play, Gone Away and others. They even had an "intermission" where one of the roadies threw out 2 beach balls while another juggled 3 balls. It was hysterical and entertaining. Offspring closed the set with their famous "The Kids Aren't Alright". As soon as the song was over, they rushed off stage but the crowd wasn't satisfied. They came back out for their encore playing "Hammerhead" and then closing out the night with their first single ever, "Self Esteem". After the show, the roadies threw out setlists and Noodle's (guitarist) guitar picks. I caught one of the picks and that just capped off one amazing night. If you ever have the chance to see them, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND IT!!
