The Offspring still got it!
by Dirk on 7/9/09Starland Ballroom - SayrevilleThe second The Offspring got on stage, the entire venue went ballistic, and you instantly knew you were going to see a great show that night. The Offspring's blend of high energy, usually fast paced music brings the intensity of a mosh pits and crowd surfing to the audience. However, their diversity of mellow reggae songs, and super catchy choruses will bring the crowd down to a friendly sing along atmosphere as well. The Offspring rocked out for a solid 90 minutes, delivering all their hit songs (that even if you bring some one who claims they had never heard of them, they'll still be able to instantly recognize a minimum of 3 of their songs) and getting the crowd into it. The only problem was the price of the tickets considering the bands playing. After paying $40 a ticket, plus convenience fees and parking I'd expect 1 or 2 good opening acts. However, there was only 1 opening act, who was a solo artist, Frank Turner. Although his music might be good in its own right, it did not match the vibe or styling for a crowd waiting to see the Offspring... It's not surprising at all that he actually ended up getting booed off stage. Next time I'd like to see more than 1 guy with an acoustic guitar singing, how about an actual band that can get the audience pumped up.
