  • Musical Box at the Wellmount

    by Guitarman430 on 12/6/21The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 4 out of 5

Overall a very good experience. We were disappointed that the band did not play their name-sake song, the Musical Box! The event staff was thorough and efficient.

  • Wellmont Theater is a covid superspreader waiting to happen.

by Jim from Jersey on 12/6/21The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 5 out of 5

The Wellmont Theater has a policy of a mask must be worn at all times unless actively eating or drinking. At the magnificent performance by The Musical Box, there were a majority of people who took their mask off for the entire performance. I was seated in Row A seat 104 and I counted roughly 30 people around me who were maskless. The Wellmont staff did nothing to stop this, endangering attendees as well as the band as we were all within 20 feet or less from the stage. I have been going to the theater for years, but I will not be going to shows I have tickets for in 2022. The Musical Box are exceptional musicians who perform the early works of Genesis during their incredibly inventive phase. As someone who saw Genesis in those days in the early 1970's, I could close my eyes and feel that I went back in time and was at those shows. Catch them if you can, they will be touring again in 2022. They get 5 stars. The theater itself gets a negative 5 stars for it's blatant negligence of enforcing Covid policies as Omicron and Delta rage through our country.

  • Great location; poor sound quality

by Matt on 12/6/21The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 3 out of 5

I've seen The Musical Box several times, including at the Wellmont. The sound mix for this and other recent shows has been terrible. I don't plan to go to future shows there

  • Memorable Concert

by Floyd Fan on 12/6/21The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first COVID era concert. I was a bit apprehensive. 3 guys checking of vaccination. Then 2 guys with wands. Then you go to the door to get your tix scanned. The world we live in now. I’ve seen Music Box before. They are a great band. This performance was a little different. There was a buzz in the crowd. 50, 60 and 70 year olds acting like their 25! Almost like it was the last concert ever. If you like old Peter Gabriel era Genesis, you gotta see this band. They did a couple songs Phil sang back in the day. They were great too! This concert was postponed 3 times due to COVID. Looked like everyone held onto their tickets because lots of people there. I had a great time!

by Christo on 12/6/21The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 5 out of 5

These guys are amazing! Their performance transports the audience back in time to Peter Gabriel's Genesis. They are more than a tribute band, they are an experience! Very talented group of musicians that accurately reproduce Genesis' music.

  • Awesome

by Led on 12/6/21The Wellmont Theater - MontclairRating: 5 out of 5

All I can say is THANK YOU to this talented group of musicians for keeping this music alive by re-creating an experience that is so precious to so many loyal Genesis fans. A totally fulfilling show. We will see them again every opportunity we can.

  • Tour De Force

by Scrabs on 12/4/21The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

If you enjoy the interplay between percussion & guitars, this show is always worth seeing. The encore was Supper's Ready which has some outstanding instrumental sections.

  • Best Genesis since I left

These guys are incredible and this show was way better than The Last Domino

  • Superb

by Steff on 12/3/21The Wilbur - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I was 14 in 1972 when I first heard the album Foxtrot. It liberally changed my life, opening up my musical understanding and desire to explore new listening avenues. And those early Genesis albums, in part, gave me motivation to become a musician myself. 49 years later Foxtrot is still one of my favorite albums. The Musical Box are the closest thing to listening to early Genesis. They preproduce those unbelievable compositions with such accuracy and passion it gives one goosebumps. "Superb," "fantastic," "sublime," ...one runs out of superlative adjectives to describe The Musical Box. They continuously work on new tunes, new shows, so the 3rd time seeing them was a complete new, wonderful experience for me. DO NOT miss this band!!

  • Ungodly loud

    by Wayne-o on 11/26/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 1 out of 5

I have seen this band at least a dozen times in the past and loved it. They are very talented and sound just like Genesis. The vocalist sounds a lot like Peter Gabriel. The volume was always reasonable. They started off this show with Eleventh Earl Of Mar. The bass pedals were ungodly loud. I had earplugs. They don't block the bass - not at that volume. I walked out. What a shame. The Musical Box - never again.

  • A nice trip back in time to what made classic Genesis great!

by Batman on 11/26/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 4 out of 5

This is the fifth time I have seen the Musical Box perform (dating back to early 2000's) and the band never fails to deliver a better that the original band experience. That said, the original band was always having technical issues that the Musical Box has mostly avoided. This performance is the first time where I felt a bit let down rather than completely blown away. The musicianship was outstanding by all involved, but the audio was not as good as I have come to expect from the band. I'm not sure where the shortcomings came from, whether the band's audio tech(s?) or the Birchmere's systems were at fault. The audio was not as balanced among the instruments and the vocals as I have heard them be in the past. The band sounded better the last time I saw them at the Birchmere, which was back in 2019 when they were performing part One of the Extravaganza. I will give them full credit for going all out with their efforts to provide a solid performance. I can only imagine how good it would have been if the sound had been better balanced at this performance. Denis Gagne was hard to hear at numerous points, the keyboards and the "Hackett" guitar parts were also frequently too low in the mix. The two people who attended with me frequently had no idea what Denis was singing lyrically. If I wasn't so familiar with the material, I wouldn't have been sure about it, either. In spite of this, I am greatly looking forward to the band's next tour in this part of the US as I will certainly be in attendance. Still a great night of of great music!

  • Fantastic as always!

by HAN on 11/26/21Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

The Musical Box never disappoints! They lovingly recreate early Genesis shows and they always sound fantastic. This was my fifth show and I come away appreciating Genesis more and more. This tour was particularly interesting with the first set focused on Phil Collins era songs and the second set on Gabriel era. It was great to hear really early songs such as “Looking for Someone” and “Stagnation”.

  • As good as it gets for Genesis fans

by Ranjo on 11/7/21NYCB Theatre at Westbury - WestburyRating: 4 out of 5

If you were a fan during the bands height of creativity, dont miss this group.

  • Great night of Genesis

by Psol on 11/6/21NYCB Theatre at Westbury - WestburyRating: 5 out of 5

I’ve seen the real Genesis for each album tour from ‘74 to’80 and the Musical Box many times at NYCB theater. The band always does a great job at recreating Genesis’ music and tours. The Nov 3rd “Extravaganza” show was phenomenal trip down Genesis lane. The sound was excellent, which isn’t always the case. The crowd was really into being entertained in a venue after the long Covid hiatus. Looking forward to the band’s next tour performing Genesis’ masterpiece, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway!

  • Always great

  • The Best Genesis Cover Band. Period.

by Sean on 11/6/21NYCB Theatre at Westbury - WestburyRating: 5 out of 5

If you ever wanted to experience Genesis in their hey day with the original members and Peter Gabriel on vocals but line me were too young to see them then this is a must. They look and sound like them. The have all the original instruments and stage lighting and props. This is the real deal. An absolute must see for any true Genesis fan

  • Great evening

Very enjoyable evening. Band was superb and I felt very safe knowing that everyone was vaccinated or recently tested negative.
