  • Tribute to Genesis

by GenFan on 10/31/11Orbit Room - Grand RapidsRating: 4 out of 5

The music was very good and met my expectations for a tribute band, they where spot on. The lead singer’s vocals were as well very good although the music itself was loud and drown him out so he was difficult to hear most of the time. The costumes and lighting was good and reminiscent of the time, but this show didn’t include any pyrotechnics, I was hoping for a little more. If you’re a Genesis fan than this is a must see.

  • Better than the original!

by DDDDoiuh on 10/31/11Orbit Room - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

Never before would I have thought that I would see what I ran away for at 16 be reenacted better than the original in 1974. These people do it and the members of Genesis say so too. A must see, twice!

  • The Musical Box

by Griens on 10/30/11Orbit Room - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

If you are a die-hard Genesis fan of the Peter Gabriel period, you will be amazed. The show was awesome and better live than the original Lamb album because of the sound dynamics. I really enjoyed seeing the original slide show behind the band. It was not what I imagined and changed how I view the meaning behind some of the songs. Ditto for all the stage theatrics of the "Peter Gabriel" clone. The band was tight and full sounding. The sound of the bass pedals stands the hair up on your back. My dream is that they will perform the "Seconds Out" concert from start to finish. One aside note: My wife is more of the "Invisible Touch" type of Genesis fan; she thought it was too weird for her taste. She couldn't have been more wrong on her assessment.

  • The Musical Box was astonishing!

It was as if I entered a time machine and was sitting at a Genesis concert in 1975!

  • Awesome!

by strummin67 on 10/29/11The Regency Ballroom - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

I was too young to see Genesis during their Peter Gabriel era so I jumped at the chance to se these guys. Their renderings of the songs from the Lamb Lies Down album were pretty much spot on. No small task in a live setting. If I had any complaints it would be that the venue had no air conditioning. A small price to pay for an incredible show.

  • Amazing Band

    by joshua623 on 10/27/11Orpheum Theatre - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

This band is the next best thing to seeing The original Genesis with Peter Gabriel as their frontman. They are more than just a tribute band, they are a re-creation band, down to the very small details in their production, instruments, costumes, and theatrics. Seeing The Lamb, live in its entirety should not be missed. Denis Gagne plays the Gabriel part wonderfully, with similar stance, mannerisms and voice. Do yourself a favor and go see this band, I hope they will tour again soon.

  • Felt like 1974...Genesis fans rejoice!

by MWysol on 10/25/11Orpheum Theatre - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

Every year our hopes fade a little more that Peter Gabriel will take a trip down memory lane with his old lads and perform the "classic" Genesis material. For us diehard fans it has also always been a sore spot that the Lamb tour was never properly filmed. We could only imagine what that concert was like. Not anymore! I have always heard that The Musical Box has been a "terrific" cover band. I have to say I was skeptical. Wow, was I wrong. These guys have dedicated their professional lives to being as spot on with the original, it was uncanny. The attention to detail was freaky...right down to the drummer sporting Phil Collins' beard and haircut, circa 1974...and was he AMAZING! The gentleman who was Peter/Rael was simply unbelievable and overall the musicianship would make Mike/Tony/Steve/Phil/Peter very proud. As much as I loved watching the Beatlemania band cover the Fab Four, this was far more impressive because of the unparalled complexity of the music, the theatrics and the interplay with the audience. The Orpheum is a wonderful venue for any event and I was proud that Phoenix got the place nearly half full for a "fringe" concert. My wife never understood my obsession with early Genesis and because "The Lamb" is so out there, she hated the show (I thanked her profusely for sticking with it)...and I would never recommend this as a way to become acquainted with the band, but for us "lifers" it was unforgettable!!!

Great show, other than a couple of technical glitches. The musicians are strong, and do sound like the original. At times the overall mix could have been better, but it was still great, especially since I never saw Genesis with Gabriel. Highly recommend to any Genesis fan who would appreciate what they did.

  • Amazing Re-creation of Lamb Lies Down!

Really enjoyed The Musical Box and the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. The Orpheum is an excellent place to see a concert.

  • Prog History brought to stunning life!

by Gersupperboy on 10/24/11Club Nokia - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

A tremendous show. A glorious window into a time before giant stage shows, where imagination and theatricality rules. Worth the ticket just to hear Genesis music live ,loud and passionately accurate! Thrilling.

  • Perfect

by SidSincere on 10/24/11Orpheum Theatre - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

The music was clear and true to the original. The singer's voice was a perfect fit to Peter Gabriel at that time. It was all beautiful!

  • Re-creation of Genesis

We really enjoyed the show. I saw Genesis in 1972 with Peter Gabriel an I thought that the stage show was really good

  • i would recommend with reservations

You cannot relive the past, but you can get an idea of what it was like, maybe. I was great to see the original Genesis staging and slide show yes. Probably only chance one will ever get to witness that part, and since the slide show only worked properly at maybe 4 or 5 shows on the Genesis tour of 1974 and 1975, here was a chance to see it actually work correctly. However, i wonder if the technology used to make the slide show actually work properly now could of been added to the sound and other visuals, It wasn't so the whole thing looks dated at times, which of course it is. The encores were wonderful and seeing the original staging for Watcher of the Skies and Musical Box were nice. It's a wonderful attempt with Genesis and Gabriel's apparent blessing to recreate the past but one maybe can't go back again i don't know, not without the chemistry of the original members of the original band, as good as the attempt by the current players, it leaves one emotionally short. Go see it once if you were a fan to see a glimpse of the past, but hope that someday more film of the original tour could be found.

  • Not the Rael thing, but......

by Bobthenob on 10/24/11Orpheum Theatre - PhoenixRating: 4 out of 5

So, The Musical Box, the band, not the song; although, they DID cover that particular track in an encore. This is not so much a tribute band, as it is a faithful recreation of an event, a very big event in the prog community of the mid-70's I might add. These guys have been at this for 15 years.....longer, by about 8 years, than the Gabriel incarnation of this group, and it shows. The attention to detail, the faithful recreation of the costuming and staging shows the respect and admiration these cats have for the originals. The music was spot on....the guitarist, in particular, was amazing, and Steve Hackett is not one I would care to cover, but he did it with skill. The singer has the mannerisms and idiosynchracies of PG down.....even in his patter between songs. I was at the original in 75 at The Shrine, as well as The Roxy, and Santa Monica Civic gigs the previous coupla years, and this is as close as your gonna get to seeing a true event in rock music. All in all.....highly recommended!

  • Old Genesis Revived

    by stanmur2011 on 10/24/11Orpheum Theatre - PhoenixRating: 4 out of 5

Music was incredbily similar to old Genesis sound, although vocals off a bit and bass too distorted.

  • Musical Box is Awesome !

by jdmesaaz on 10/24/11Orpheum Theatre - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

I had seen these guys like 10 years ago do Selling England, and it was amazing... The Lamb mightt be even better. Their attention to all the details is incredible, and results in a recreation where the sound is like off the record...

  • More lifelike than reality

    by Lucid801 on 10/24/11Club Nokia - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

This performance was filled with ecstasy for me! Oh, come on you know what I mean! Like a large part of the audience, I am a grissly 56-year old guy who formed a massive bond with Genesis in the 70's. I'm very familiar with the music and have ruined more copies of the Lamb by dropping the original vinyl on the turntable out of enthusiasm and rushing to get to side 4! I had high expectations for this concert and was ecstatically pleased with it! How risky is putting on something like this that can end up being dated and hackneyed? Perhaps for the unfamiliar, the choreography/performance by a Peter Gabriel of the 70's doesn't withstand the sophistication of a jaded media savvy contemporary audience. But that was certainly not the case this night. Movement and musicianship were overwhelmingly, painstakingly and lovingly reviving this seminal rock opera for mostly old eyes ready to appreciate. I was enthralled over and over by the attention to detail and heart invested in the music. More so as the members of The Musical Box are as young as those dudes of Genesis of 1974. Where do these guys get the passion for something relatively anachronistic? I don't care how but they are passionate and we are the beneficiaries! I am seeing this again in Chicago this November almost by accident and can hardly wait. By comparison I am hoping for a slightly different an louder vocal mix. There is no reason to hide the lead singer's so-very-Gabriel-like voice. More please! Aside from that, the mix and sound was magnificent in this terrific venue. I haven't heard sound as good since the Hollywood House of Blues. Excellent acoustics and reinforcement.

the musical box did a great job .. always loved the " lamb " album. wished they hadn't done an encore it took away from all the songs that were playing in my head.

  • Excelllent Recreation

by JamesV on 10/24/11Club Nokia - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

As someone who saw the original in 1975 I can say that the show was very well done. Stage was a little small for some things, but overall the music was excellent. Especially the guitars and singer. Very hard to duplicate Phil Collins...one of the greatest drummers of all time.
