  • Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

    by RDW12 on 11/19/12Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 4 out of 5

I saw this originally at the old Convention Hall in Philadelphia back in 1974. I loved seeing all the original slides, and the music was Excellent! Seats need more leg room and need new seats but 10th row center was a great location.

awesome show...sound was amazing...first time at Keswick, nice little town...3rd time seeing "Lamb", and every time I am blown away...The Musical Box "IS" Genesis from the early 70's...they really do their homework and the lead singer really grabs the essence of Gabriel, actually I think he thinks he is the Patron Saint sometimes....great show...cant wait to see what they tour next...Foxtrot? Selling England? Nursery Chryme? I will be there....

  • The Lamb Lies Down was mindblowing

by Anonymous on 11/19/12Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

No wonder the the boys give their blessings to the these guys. All virtuoso musicians, performing with a theatrical flair that put this show over the top. The original slide show gave things a time tunnel effect that really hellped tell the story and make the show one MInd Blowing Event . If you can catch this performance or any other , do it.

  • The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway never disappoint!

by Joemidi on 11/19/12Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

I always enjoy the Lamb show by The Musical Box. There are only a couple more months left of touring this album left before the band might retire this for sometime. Don't miss you chance to see them!

  • Making me rethink my position on 'tribute bands'.

by ElvisAndretti on 11/18/12Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 4 out of 5

As a general rule I don't go in for 'tribute bands'. But there's no way to go back in time and see Peter Gabriel perform with Genesis and I missed out on that the first time around. The musicianship displayed here was astonishing, apart from the stagecraft that defined the early period Genesis live show these guys could really play. Not only did the band play all the right notes (no small accomplishment) the guitar tones, synthesizer patches and even the percussion was spot on. Add in the light show and costumes and it was easy to forget where and when you were. Are. or was. This is the last time The Musical Box will recreate this show and I'm glad we went.

  • a truely awesome redition/time travel show

by JKatRacing on 11/18/12Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

i've heard nothing but good things about The Musical Box but this was the first time getting to see them. a truly awesome rendition of the Genesis of old...old meaning "with" Peter Gabriel...no wonder these guys are approved by Gabriel himself and Genesis. they really do re-create the show exactly as it was supposed to be...i saw the Lamb concert in '74 but was a little too partied out to fully enjoy it, this trip back in time was worth every dollar spent.

  • The Lamb lies

    by LV462 on 11/18/12Keswick Theatre - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

As a Genesis fan is about as close to s live performance as you can get of this bands music. The music was true to the album and the group has the rights to the stage props that were used to replicate the same look and feel of the original band. It brings me back to an era when rock was rock and music had meaning. If you are a fan go to show and enjoy.

  • Fantastic!

by gtrbass7 on 6/20/12Harrah's Resort Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

Dare I say that this was likely better than seeing the actual production? Yes, I dare. The music perfect, the production equally flawless, I was transported back to the glory days of Progressive Rock with this reminder of the glory that is Gabriel-era Genesis and enjoyed every second of the ride. The Musical Box is truly an outfit that deserves extensive accolades for their tribute to this better period of time in Music history. If you're not a fan to start, you certainly will become one midway through this musical journey and a die-hard by the time the encores fade into the night. Do not deny yourself this pleasure. See this show. There is no chance of disappointment.

  • The Best of The Best!

by DennisC on 6/18/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

I have wanted to see this band for many years and finally they scheduled a date in Florida. I drove 4 hours from North Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale to see this show, something that I would do for very few acts. At their peak, Genesis could not have performed The Lamb as well as Musical Box does. Advancements in technology have made it possible to properly present the music and the associated performances surrounding it. I hope TMB enjoyed their visit to Florida and plan to return in the future with another tour.

  • Great, but time for change

by Psw1960 on 6/16/12Harrah's Resort Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

This was the second time I have seen the show. Once in Nov 2011, then again in May 2012. Just an amazing show if you are a fan and are into the music. I saw another show is coming to the area in Nov 2012. I have seen enough and ready for the band to take a break and then return with a new show.

  • Great Show!

Since you're never going to see Genesis play this ever again, see this show. Fantastic.

  • Musical Box rocks; Howard Theatre not

    by BE13 on 6/11/12Howard Theatre - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Great show. I've seen them before but they appear to be different performers (lead playing Gabriel definately was). Howard was sold out. Arrived 20 minutes before show. Greeter took us to a table of four (there were 2 of us) and our 2 designated chairs had their backs facing the stage. It was so tight up against another table there was no way to turn the chairs around so we would be facing the stage. So we went and stood at the bar for the entire show (wasn't bad...good siteline, but no sitting for 2 hours). Bummer about the seats but still a great show.

  • Perfect Performance HORRIBLE SOUND!!!

by TLAMIX on 5/20/12ALL - NYC, Philly, Boston, MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

I am a MULTI Grammy Award winning recording engineer and have seen TMB perform over 20 shows! I will continue to attend their shows because I am such a HUGE fan of this music. I have had the great fortune to work with Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Steve Hackett as an engineer / producer and have followed Genesis my ENTIRE life. I missed the original "Lamb" tour and first saw Genesis on the "Trick" tour and every tour after that. The Musical Boxes version of TLLDOB is an AMAZING production and after seeing it, in my mind, I feel like I have attended the original. The issue I have is the SOUND. It is THIN and TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!! It is consistently BAD!!! Its not the venue, because I have seen them in so many different theaters. They have gone to pain staking lengths to reproduce this great tour. The only problem is they try to reproduce 1974 sound which is just wrong. It is the reason I believe they don't get as many repeat customers. If the audio is not BLOWING away the audience all the bands hard work is wasted. It doesn't matter what they are playing!!! I went home after the NYC show in May of 2012 and played The Lamb on my modest sound system and realized that on MODERN 2012 stereos, The Lamb sounds amazing. No one is going home and pulling out their 1974 sound system to listen to the Lamb. Trying to reproduce 1974 audio is just WRONG. The Lamb sounds even better today because modern audio systems can reproduce it SO MUCH better than anything available in the 1970's. Therefore in order to make TLLDOB performance have even more impact the audio HAS to match the reference point of today's audio standards!! The drum need to be LOUDER and have more punch, The bass pedal need to have more sub bass and shake the whole theater. JUST LIKE THE RECORDING DOES when played on modern audio equipment! This is music that I am passionate about and I am not going to stand by and let ONE PERSON destroy what an entire band as spent so much time perfecting. The sound man is the liaison between the band and the audience and it is HIS job to mix based on audience reaction. If his mix falls short, the band might as well not even bother playing because the passion of the performance is lost because of ONE PERSON'S inability to make it sound great. (That person being the sound man) I will continue to recommend TMB to any "Lamb" fan, and I will continue to attend the show's I have spoken to the band and the sound man and encourage ALL of you reading this to post YOUR thoughts about this subject... If the band is given the information and takes it in a constructive way, we can only hope this issue will be addressed!!! Because that's the ONLY thing standing in the way of making this an "EPIC" experience!!!

  • A Time Machine

by Drewzer on 5/16/12Keswick - GlensideRating: 5 out of 5

Anyone who is not entertained by the musical box and was a fan of genesis is dead inside. You should just stay home and be miserable. These guys are a talented dedicated group of musicians who bring joy to the old school genesis fans like me. I haven't missed them once since they first came to the keswick in the 90's and I still get chills.

  • the musical box

It was on a $10 budget and it showed. It sounded just like genesis of the past but no entertainment value at all! I have every genesis album - seen gabrial and genesis a ton of time and left the concert early!

Although I have seen Genesis and Peter Gabriel several times, dating back to 1978, I have never seen them play together. Nevertheless, I have listen to the original Lamb hundredths of time and the archived (live) version many time, too. As far as the music, it was flawless - I thought I was listening to the archived (live) version; the band did not miss a note. In retrospect, If I were told it was prerecorded, I would have to ponder that (as I said prior, the band was perfect). In terms of the lead singer, Denis Gagne, he was amazing as Gabriel. His vocals also mirrored the archived (live) show as well (including Gabriel's interaction with the crowd). Gagne had "mid to late seventies" Gabriel down pat - even mirroring Gabriel's movements when the spot light was not on him. I contest that his vocal's were not prerecorded". The encores were of courses the Musical Box and Watchers of the Sky - which were played perfectly. The venue was small, around 3,000, and the sound was excellent. I recommend seeing this band if possible. I would love to see them perform Supper's ready. Rumor has it they will be moving forward with Phil as the lead singer, performing later albums.

  • Under the Light of a Full Mad Man Super Moon

    by OldFMdj on 5/7/12Variety Playhouse - Atlanta,Rating: 5 out of 5

Anticipation is provocative. It begins as a very small emotion and as time ensues it grows to much larger proportions. Having never been delighted by the presence of The Musical Box in an auditorium full of loyalists, the Genesis years that featured Peter Gabriel was presented in more than a trip back in time, rather it was a resurrection of an era of progressive rock that included fairy tales and theatrics for the common man. My nephew, in NY suggested that” this” will be the show to see. Having heard stories with the likes of folklore from an uncle who had been to as many a Genesis concert as there were albums and then some. “This” was something to see and authorized in some way by Peter Gabriel, Michael Rutherford, Steve Hackett and Phil Collins. An effort to recreate an event for the eyes and ears that experienced such an incredible show, Back in NYC… in 1974. Now that would be something to anticipate. Luckily, the extravaganza would take place at a location in Atlanta, that is legendary in itself, let alone a favorite spot to see music of all kinds, in a venue that is intimate, comfortable, open and easily one of the best Atlanta has to offer. “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway” was the crescendo to a bands rise that ended with the departure of theatrical front man Peter Gabriel. At the time, I recall seeing that presentation, having been a loyalist Genesis fan growing up in NYC, after listening to the likes of Scott Muni play “Twilight Ale House” on WNEW-FM on “Things from England” on a Friday afternoon. Those distant days of liner notes, lyrics and all things “Hipgnosis”. Those days were the college years and they included seeing this original show in Rochester, New York, at the Auditorium Theatre. Followed by an interesting trip to Albany and the Palace Theatre, and concluding with heading home for the single sole purpose to be back in NYC for “The Lamb” once more at the Academy of Music on 14th street. “The Lamb” was to be a very stark and physical presentation. Coming from an English band with experience in writing and performing rock theatrical masterpieces. Our supper was ready. “It” was about a kid in New York City, a kid who was an “Imperial Aerosol King” and a graffiti artist who would take us on a visual and mindful journey. Could anything or anyone, ever, in ones wildest imaginings, recreate such an incredible presentation and performance. Especially, since in those days, Genesis and Peter Gabriel were often criticized by the music press for being pretentious. It was bat wings, uniforms, masks, and a multimedia presentation done the hard way. In an age when film and slides were the rage, rather than a digital computer animation. Critics complained, that “The Battle of Epping Forest” from “Selling England By The Pound” was steeped in English slang and vernacular, that couldn’t possibly be understood or cared for by an American rock audience. “Pretentious” stories, based in fantasy, literature, nursery rhymes, with religious overtones from the bible. “It” was rock and roll, and not Sunday School they cried! Genesis however, prevailed. Through their iconic presentations, their loyalists, like I, did follow, from Rochester, to Albany,… to NYC... to Atlanta, and now to the Variety Playhouse, to see The Musical Box and “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway”. Surrounded by loyalists, in an audience filled with AARP card holders, that perhaps for only one evening, meant the “Authentic And RAEL Presentation” of “The Lamb”. If you have been anticipating this presentation, if you have wondered what it would be like to go back in time, just for a few hours, to hear two album sides connected in “Its” entirety, “It” will enthrall your senses with images of what is “RAEL” and what will become real if only for a brief moment in time. Timing is everything in life. In Atlanta the timing included a full super moon at perigee the night before and a continued Mad Man Moon on the drive to the Variety Playhouse. Such befitting visual natural circumstances. The genius of Genesis is captured by The Musical Box and their incredible attention to detail in chords, progression, performance and costume. For the Genesis loyalist, this presentation is a must, as “It” like everything in life is fleeting as time. Peter moved on and gave us more, Phil came forward and more than filled in. Genesis and Gabriel gave us a body of work over the years that have pleased and mesmerized us all. To step back in time for “The Lamb” with the Musical Box is a gift, blessed by a band who understands, and presented through hard work with the loyalty of saints. Critics may still say, you can see right thru “It”. However “It” will be kept alive. “It” you see, is only “Knock and Know All”, and you can leave “It”, or you can love “It”, or as all Genesis fans can tell a critic “Shove It”. “It” is “Only Rock and Roll” and we love “It". If only you can see "It", don’t miss “It”.
