The Marshall Tucker Band on Tour

Southern rock pioneers The Marshall Tucker Band have created legendary music like "Can't You See" and "Fire on the Mountain" since the '70s. While the members have changed over the years, the music that defined a generation remains the same. The rockers still energize stadiums with their iconic sound that combines rock, jazz, country, righteous guitar solos, and instrumental jam sessions. The Marshall Tucker Band hit the road in 2022 for a tour of the U.S. in celebration of 50 years of making great music. So whether you're a die-hard fan of five decades or just looking for an excellent Southern rock performance, be sure to grab tickets to see the band on their 50th Anniversary Tour. You won't be disappointed.

The Marshall Tucker Band Live in Concert

The '70s were a golden age for pop-rock music, and The Marshall Tucker Band led the charge as a new wave of Southern rock bands began to emerge. In 1972, guitarist Toy Caldwell and rhythm guitarist George McCorkle formed the six-piece in South Carolina and named the band after a blind piano tuner whose name they found inscribed on their rehearsal space key. The original lineup consisted of Caldwell, his brother Tommy Caldwell on bass, McCorkle, vocalist Doug Gray, Jerry Eubanks on flute and tenor sax, and Paul Riddle on drums. The group initially gained recognition on tour with The Allman Brothers Band and found continued success thanks to their classic Southern melodies that were perfect for radio. The group's self-titled debut album was released in March 1973 and included the hit single "Can't You See," peaking at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Marshall Tucker Band took a brief break in 1980 after the death of bassist Tommy Caldwell, but the band was revived with a new lineup and began touring again in 1983. The group mostly stuck to their musical roots, but they did take some brief detours to explore other genres with 1998's all-blues album Face Down in the Blues and the 1999 spiritual album Gospel. Overall, The Marshall Tucker Band have released over 20 studio albums and dozens of live releases, which have collectively gone multi-platinum many times. The band remains active to this day, touring throughout the United States and celebrate their 50th anniversary on tour in 2022.

  • Uh... dispappointing at best

    by zenwhipper on 10/31/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - SnoqualmieRating: 2 out of 5

For a band that has such a long legacy - this show was pathetic. The lead singer seemed drunk and did more babbling than singing. They only played two of their most popular songs and the show was bloody short at an hour and half and the band chose not to do an encore. On the positive side - the other band members were awesome and there was some good sustained rockin' beautifully played pieces of music. The flute player was awesome.

  • A NARRATIVE, NOT A CONCERT

    by mallyman on 10/31/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - SnoqualmieRating: 1 out of 5

Lead singer, (and I'm being kind here), Doug Grey talks too much. Instead of letting the band play, he spent at least half of the 1.5 hour concert talking abount nothing. He appeared to me to be drunk. The band , when allowed to play, was very very good. Marcus James Henderson was by far the best. His flute and sax performances were top notch. We did not count the songs, but we figure they only played six songs. And finally, Doug's singing voice is gone. Marshall Tucker minus Doug Grey would be a better band.

This is the third time I have seen them. They played for about an hour and a half. Last time I saw them, they played twice as long. Most of their songs turn into jam sessions, but it also means they play very few songs. The lead singer was having some voice issues also. Overall, I was disappointed compared to the other times I have seen them. But the tickets were quite inexpensive.

  • Marshall Tucker Band still has it!!!

  • Marshall Tucker Band - too much talk

by JACJVC on 9/2/09Mable House Barnes Amphitheater - MabletonRating: 2 out of 5

I've seen the Marshall Tucker Band twice at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheater. The first time was good. Not phenomenal but good. I attended the second concert 8/28 and was extremely disappointed. The jam sessions were great - but too many. Singing was almost non-existent. Doug does need to retire. He talked so much it really took away from the enjoyment of the concert. When other members sang - was fantastic. His nephew is very talented, but he seemed to be into jamming all night too. Please - get it together guys. If you want your audience to still be there, then stop the chatter and actually sing your songs. There was no format to the show - no direction. Best venue around!

  • I didn't pay to hear you TALK!!!

by KAB63 on 8/31/09Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre - MabletonRating: 1 out of 5

I purchased tickets for 6 adults for this show... We all were looking forward to hearing some good old Marshall Tucker music. But what we got was a lot of talking instead of hearing their songs. We stayed only for an hour and heard only 3 complete songs. I would not recommend going to their concert. I didn't even mind hearing other relatives that they invited up on stage to sing their songs for them... they all sounded pretty good. I just didn't expect what we got for our dollar!!!

  • Marshall Tucker Band

by Disappointed164 on 8/31/09Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre - MabletonRating: 1 out of 5

I was very disappointed. Sang six songs in two hours and talked more than they sang. When they did sing their hit songs, they butchered them by talking and changing the words. Definately not the same anymore.

  • Doug Gray needs to retire

by Bubblesmom on 8/31/09Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre - MabletonRating: 3 out of 5

Sorry guys, but Doug Gray needs to retire. His voice is shot. The band is still great, but he contributes nothing. He repeats himself a lot, and the show would have been better if someone else ran it.

  • Marshall Tucker @ Mable House Amphitheater

by kenkim on 8/30/09Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre - MabletonRating: 3 out of 5

The opening act was a talented group of musicians and better than Marshall Tucker Band where there was too much rambling talking and unending jam sessions, and not a whole lot of singing going on. They did do their biggest hits, but lead singer is way past his prime. On the positive, and the reason this review earns a generous average, the facility was phenomenal. Modern, clean, spacious open air amphiteather, good view from all seats and easy-access free parking.

  • Rockin' is ageless !!

by catholicteacher on 8/29/09Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre - MabletonRating: 5 out of 5

Marshall Tucker Band was amazing. Doug Gray--original co-founder -- at 61 was awesome. He did have help with vocals from other band members and his nephew--who was a phenomenal singer ! The fellow on flute and sax was the most incredible musician on those two instruments that I've ever heard -- no matter what style of music. The venue -- Mable House Amphitheater was fantastic as well. Best outdoor venue I've ever been to. The concert was well worth it and I would see MTB again in a heartbeat!

  • shut up and sing

by twotall on 8/29/09Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre - MabletonRating: 3 out of 5

The band did a great job , they sounded better than ever considering the music has been around for 39 years. But the lead singer, if you can still call him that, just needs to let the crowd enjoy the music. Stop the chatter and just sing so we can remember those great hits. He totally ruined the mood with his constant talking. Just shut up and sing!

  • Marshall Tucker

by sandclap on 8/29/09Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre - MabletonRating: 4 out of 5

The show was really fun and entertaining, but they played a total of 6 songs in 1 1/2 hours! I love it when musicians add some "talking" in betweeen songs, but this was a bit much. They stopped "Can't You See" 3 times to talk to the audience and have us sing the chorus for at least 6-7 rounds, and I just thought it was too much, and it frankly got a little annoying. I just wanted to hear them sing the song! I would have liked it much better if there had been a little more playing and a little less talking.

  • To be fair somewhat

by Cass on 7/27/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 2 out of 5

I grew up with MTB and other southern rockers. I've been to over 15 MYB concerts over the years from the 70's to the present. We went to the concert at DTE to see MTB along with the Atlanta Rhythm Section and the Georgia Satellites. The weather was rainy and cold, Upon entering DTE, there was hardly anyone there. We got to our seats (2 rows from the stage) and waited for the show to start. Satellites came on 1st and then ARS (which IMO was the better of the 3). There was only about 400 people, maybe 500 at the tops for this concert and the weather didn't help. Heck when we 1st came into DTE there was only about 10 people sitting on the hill. Anyways, the crowd was somewhat into MTB but not like other concerts that we have recently been to or other MTB shows that we have went to. Doug Gray's voice wasn't sounding to good and he seemed to have others sing more than himself. He also spent a lot of time walking around talking to the band members while on stage then singing or getting the crowd going. He did get pissed off at a woman in the crowd for some reason, I think it as because all she did was sit there and not move or could of been sleeping for all I know as I didn't see her. But he definitely made mention to her a few times for a reasonable amount of time. As for the show itself, they played 6 or 7 songs with NO encore. When they played "Can't You See" for the 3rd song" , I knew they wasn't going to be on long. My hubby and I left right afterwards and we both agree that this would be the last MTB show that we go to. We'll still listen to them, but won't be attending any shows for awhile

  • Marshall Tucker"The fire is out on the mountain!'

by werewalrus on 7/25/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 3 out of 5

The Marshall Tucker Band has been active going on 40 years. They have one original member , Doug Gray. I expect Mr Gray has quite a bit of clout within the band and they pretty much follow his lead.Mr Gray cannot expect MTB to fill large venues especially in inclement weather. They only played for an hour and left when Mr Gray couldn't work the crowd to suit him. MTB is a great band composed of highly skilled and energetic musicians.Good luck boys!

  • ALLWAYS A GREAT SHOW

by MTPOCKETS on 7/24/09DTE Energy Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

ALLWAYS A GREAT SHOW, IVE BEEN GOING TO SEE M.T.B FOR YEARS AND THEY NEVER DISAPPOINT

  • Marshall Tucker Band was pitiful

by boboJ on 7/13/09Lake Martin Amphitheater - Alexander CityRating: 1 out of 5

The leader of the band was poor at best. All he did was talk, mostly incoherently. He was very poor with the lyrics and he covered up what music the band was playing. Thankfully, they only played a few songs and wrapped.

  • Marshall Tucker was very forgetable

by Deerman on 7/13/09Lake Martin Amphitheater - Alexander CityRating: 1 out of 5

The Georgia Satellites and The Atlanta Rhythm Section were good, The Marshall Tucker Band sucked, and I am being kind. Doug Gray (the lead siger) could not even sing anymore, it was pitiful.
