The Marshall Tucker Band on Tour

Southern rock pioneers The Marshall Tucker Band have created legendary music like "Can't You See" and "Fire on the Mountain" since the '70s. While the members have changed over the years, the music that defined a generation remains the same. The rockers still energize stadiums with their iconic sound that combines rock, jazz, country, righteous guitar solos, and instrumental jam sessions. The Marshall Tucker Band hit the road in 2022 for a tour of the U.S. in celebration of 50 years of making great music. So whether you're a die-hard fan of five decades or just looking for an excellent Southern rock performance, be sure to grab tickets to see the band on their 50th Anniversary Tour. You won't be disappointed.

The Marshall Tucker Band Live in Concert

The '70s were a golden age for pop-rock music, and The Marshall Tucker Band led the charge as a new wave of Southern rock bands began to emerge. In 1972, guitarist Toy Caldwell and rhythm guitarist George McCorkle formed the six-piece in South Carolina and named the band after a blind piano tuner whose name they found inscribed on their rehearsal space key. The original lineup consisted of Caldwell, his brother Tommy Caldwell on bass, McCorkle, vocalist Doug Gray, Jerry Eubanks on flute and tenor sax, and Paul Riddle on drums. The group initially gained recognition on tour with The Allman Brothers Band and found continued success thanks to their classic Southern melodies that were perfect for radio. The group's self-titled debut album was released in March 1973 and included the hit single "Can't You See," peaking at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Marshall Tucker Band took a brief break in 1980 after the death of bassist Tommy Caldwell, but the band was revived with a new lineup and began touring again in 1983. The group mostly stuck to their musical roots, but they did take some brief detours to explore other genres with 1998's all-blues album Face Down in the Blues and the 1999 spiritual album Gospel. Overall, The Marshall Tucker Band have released over 20 studio albums and dozens of live releases, which have collectively gone multi-platinum many times. The band remains active to this day, touring throughout the United States and celebrate their 50th anniversary on tour in 2022.

  • Great to see these legendary bands

by Larry Smith on 5/12/24Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I'm pretty old, 70 this month, but you didn't have to be old to enjoy these two legendary bands who have both been around for at least 50 years. Jefferson Starship has had so many hit songs since the 1970s, and they did not disappoint. David Freiberg, although in his mid 80s, is still an awesome vocalist. And Cathy Richardson, who took Grace Slick's place in the band is an awesome singer. The instrumentists were aweome too and the San Francisco, psychedelic pop style was authentic and wonderful to hear. The Marshall Tucker, who had top billing, were fantastic. Original member, Doug Gray, now in his mid 70s, sang his heart out and was funny and made you feel at home. The band was unreal, true Southern rock at its finest. It was a special night for my wife and I, and especially me because I've been listening to Marhsall Tucker ans Starship since their beginnings in the 1970s.

I went to see The Marshall Tucker Band & Jefferson Starship with my two brothers The Marshall Tucker Band was good but we all thought there was too much electric guitar adlib it took away from the style of The Marshall Tucker Band which is not a heavy metal band but they were good and brought back alot of memories to my younger days Jefferson Starship was very good the hihglight of the night with them was White Rabbit great job all and all they were both good we all enjoyed the evening!

    by JDog1975 on 5/6/24Bally's Event Center - LincolnRating: 2 out of 5

  • MTB is still rockin'

    by Beer_counter on 5/6/24Bally's Event Center - LincolnRating: 5 out of 5

Over 50 years of southern rock! The flute and sax combined with dueling guitar solos makes one feel like they're in a western cowboy movie. The stagecoach backdrop even leans on that perception.

  • Disappointing

    by BP13 on 5/6/24Bally's Event Center - LincolnRating: 1 out of 5

We had been looking forward to hearing a lot of their classics for a feel-good evening. What we heard were 5 songs i believe in an hour that were dominated by concentration on guitar work with minimal vocals and harmony. I am not sure if they can't do the vocals anymore, but this concert was very disappointing. Venue always has very short concerts and acoustics are marginal. We thought that Jefferson Starship's set was stronger.

  • Disappointed

by 70’s fan on 5/6/24Bally's Event Center - LincolnRating: 1 out of 5

I was very disappointed with the show. The original band member should have let someone else do the singing. Too much “ audience sing along” and instrumentals.

  • Jefferson starship/ Marshall tucker concert

by Jane on 5/6/24Bally's Event Center - LincolnRating: 3 out of 5

Jefferson starship rocked ! They were so awesome .. vocals ,instrumentals … playing mostly songs we all knew. David Frieberg at 86 years old had the best ,most clear voice . Really enjoyed them. Now Marshall Tucker whom we bought the tickets to see. We’re not very good. Way too much instrumentals. And songs we never heard. Very little vocals and when Doug Gray sang let’s just say it wasn’t good. We left after an hour and hearing only 1 song we knew. Would not recommend seeing them . If they let the keyboard -sax player and the guitarist sing popular songs., it would have been better

  • Not what I expected at all

by Me on 5/6/24Bally's Event Center - LincolnRating: 2 out of 5

If I want to hear blues music I would have gone to a blues concert not a southern rock concert

  • Great goodie but oldie show

by chen on 5/6/24Bally's Event Center - LincolnRating: 4 out of 5

Very talented musicians....the lead/point person voice was fair. The others on organ/flute/sax and lead guitar were awesome.

  • I love me some Marshall Tucker

by Shathead on 5/6/24Bally's Event Center - LincolnRating: 5 out of 5

  • Jefferson Starship rocks!

by Awesome concert! on 4/30/24Caesars Event Center at Caesars Southern Indiana - ElizabethRating: 3 out of 5

Jefferson Starship rocks, they should have been the headliner, Marshall Tucker just ok. Next time headline Jefferson Starship. The venue also had poor acoustics. Left before the concert was over.

  • Great Show

by Steve on 4/30/24Caesars Event Center at Caesars Southern Indiana - ElizabethRating: 5 out of 5

We had great seats on the 4th row. Starship opened the show and it was an incredible performance with all of their top hits. Really surprised us just how good they were. Marshall Tucker also put on a wonderful show. The musicianship was astounding. I really loved the heart of Doug Gray. He is in his twilight years and there is some fading of his ability to sing, but he overcame that with his warmth and showmanship. All of the band members were world class, but I have to single out Marcus Henderson, especially his solo performance on the flute. Really, really special and quite frankly hard to believe it is humanly possible to play a flute like this. I will try to go to one more of these shows while they are on tour. My wife enjoyed Starship more than Marshall Tucker Band.

  • Jefferson should have been the headliner

by Tom on 4/30/24Caesars Event Center at Caesars Southern Indiana - ElizabethRating: 3 out of 5

Lead singer for MTB has lost his voice, doesn't sound like the same man. Jefferson Starship opening the night was 5 stars, fantastic!!

  • Marshal Tucker

Enjoyed the show, great talent. Also enjoyed the band Jefferson Starship. Great evening 💕

  • The FIRE on the Mountain has been extinguished.

by SueF on 4/30/24Caesars Event Center at Caesars Southern Indiana - ElizabethRating: 2 out of 5

Was more than disappointed in the performance. It was very evident that the band failed to recognize and play to their audience. 99% of those in attendance where from the 1970's Era who did not come to hear new songs. It was quite evident by the number of fans who was exiting halfway through the show that the Fire on the Mountain has been extinguished, which by the way they did not play. Very disappointed to say the least!!!

  • Worn out

by Paula B on 4/30/24Caesars Event Center at Caesars Southern Indiana - ElizabethRating: 3 out of 5

At 76 years old, Lead Singer, Doug Gray's, voice is worn out. It was very shaky and weak. Granted, they had a concert the night before, but still....I think it's time he hang up the microphone. The musicians and backup vocals were spot on, but when you rely on the crowd to sing the chorus to "Can't you See"and "Heard it in a Love Song", it's time to retire. Unfortunately, many in the crowd left, but we stayed until the bitter end. Not worth the money. Opening Band, Jefferson Starship was better, but again, founding member, David Freiberg's, voice was hoarse and hard to hear. Lead Singer, Cathy Richardson, was very good. Worth the money.
