Formed by guitarist/composer Omar Rodríguez-López and singer/lyricist Cedric Bixler-Zavala, The Mars Volta rose from the ashes of El Paso punk-rock firebrands At The Drive-In in 2001. Ona mission to "honor our roots and honor our dead", The Mars Volta made music that fused the Latin sounds Rodríguez-López was raised on with the punk and underground noise he and Bixler-Zavala had immersed themselves in for years, and the futuristic visions they were tapping into. The albums that followed were one-of-a-kind masterpieces, their songs of breath-taking complexity also possessing powerful emotional immediacy. After the group fell silent, a legion of devotees (including Kanye West) kept up an insistent drum-beat for their return. Now-a year after 'La Realidad De Los Sueños', aluxurious 18-LP box-set compiling their back catalog, sold out its 5,000 print run in under 24 hours-The Mars Volta are back.
Throughout their career, The Mars Volta have brought played many famous venues to capacity, like Tabernacle in Atlanta and Terminal 5 in New York.

I went knowing that this tour was getting mixed reviews. I gave them the benefit of the doubt but they did not disprove the negative critics. I would have enjoyed the show more had they played the album straight through. However, they seemed to play long improvisation sessions between the songs that were too chaotic for me to enjoy. One good thing is Cedric sounded good. The back up vocals from Teri were cool but she was pretty distracting with her movements throughout the whole show. We left early and we weren’t the only ones. In over 20 years of going to live music concerts I have never left a show early but that night I did. If you can score cheap tickets like I did, since they went from $80 to $40, I would say go ahead but be warned because you might have the urge to get up and walk out before it ends.
I saw them about 20 years ago and this made me so happy they are playing again. It felt more grown up but still great. The girl that sang was nice although I love Cedrics voice solo more. I would love to see them play a mix of songs the next time around because their music takes me to a place no one else can.
The first group sucked, the second one from Puerto Rico was really good. Overall it was good concert but it was way too loud. I had to sit in the lobby to listen, and several people were leaving saying the same thing, it was too loud. Nice venue.
The Mars Volta never disappoint, great venue and audience made for a great show.
Thin crowd on the tuesday night before thanksgiving. The band sounded great and was augmented by the the lead singer of thles buthcherettes!
This band always blows my mind with their music and how they don’t follow the rules when it comes to live music. Playing an album from start to finish with no breaks in between songs. Wish I could watch this 10 more times!
If more artists would do what they love, like this band does, the world would be a better place. Every member of the band is solid, most are extraordinary musicians. I know some hate on this member or that member, or miss who used to be there, or wish they played their old hits…to which I say lol, this is the band today, and if you want their old hits, play an old album, or go to their next tour where they might just do that. They knocked it out of the park, and I’m thankful I got to see them perform this.
This is a tour for the hardcore Volta fans. Fourth time seeing them since their reunion, and it was a ripper. Crazy light show, long trippy jams, and the entire Lucro Sucio album performed from front to back. Volta and the terrific openers Kiani Medina and Felix y Dada brought their A-game and looked to be getting into it heavy. If you like Volta or just want to see a killer act of musicianship go see this tour!
The Salt Shed is a great venue! The Mars Volta was unreal. What a show!
