Formed by guitarist/composer Omar Rodríguez-López and singer/lyricist Cedric Bixler-Zavala, The Mars Volta rose from the ashes of El Paso punk-rock firebrands At The Drive-In in 2001. Ona mission to "honor our roots and honor our dead", The Mars Volta made music that fused the Latin sounds Rodríguez-López was raised on with the punk and underground noise he and Bixler-Zavala had immersed themselves in for years, and the futuristic visions they were tapping into. The albums that followed were one-of-a-kind masterpieces, their songs of breath-taking complexity also possessing powerful emotional immediacy. After the group fell silent, a legion of devotees (including Kanye West) kept up an insistent drum-beat for their return. Now-a year after 'La Realidad De Los Sueños', aluxurious 18-LP box-set compiling their back catalog, sold out its 5,000 print run in under 24 hours-The Mars Volta are back.
Throughout their career, The Mars Volta have brought played many famous venues to capacity, like Tabernacle in Atlanta and Terminal 5 in New York.
Honestly, what a horrible set. Put a lot of people are o sleep. I’d ask for a refund if I could.
The Mars Volta ROCK! Great band & Great show! Went with my buddy Sam and we both really enjoyed the concert!
I've been following the Mars Volta for over 20 years now and they're a very special band for me, especially the works from Cedric and Omar. It is my fourth time seeing them live, and I'm already looking forward to the next show. The show at History in Toronto was cerebral, emotional, and intense. I especially love hearing Cedric's voice live and seeing him dance and perform. He has great attitude and stage presence. The sound and visuals at History were perfect. Beautiful show.
Wasn’t impressed; seen multiple times in past and this was my least fav. No past songs played and I felt like everything dragged on. Not hating on them; but I see +20 concerts/year and I pay to hear what I love. This seemed like they wanted to play what they’re into. I get they’re a little more obscure but this was just not what I expected based upon prev shows. Felt like I needed to be in drugs TBH. Don’t know if I’d see em live again. Disappointing to say
Played the new album only which is not very enjoyable.
My son has been telling me how great The Mars Volta was, and I've actually seen them several times, but I wasn't convinced. With this show, I was able to get up close and personal and saw how much energy that was put into their performance. I didn't know any of the songs, but that didn't matter, I was impressed enough even to buy a $45 T-shirt!
Way better than I expected. The drummer killed it and everyone else put on a great show. The new album live is much better than the recorded version
One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. They played nothing but new material, and absolutely killed it. I would go see them 50x a year if I could
hello. unfortunately, im dismayed to hav to report that- due to extenuating circumstance, involving a pursuit ov Love Lost, perhaps departed.? moved on, potentially. my evening ov wednesday nov5 mandated an intense introspective walkabout, thereby creating a trajectory without my participation at filmores hosting ov (my personal favorite musical ensemble) TheMarsVolta. 'tis indeed a sad truth, my attendance had not been made manifest. Yet, ill adhere to, i believe the phrase goes- 'With Love, All things become Possible • endTransmition sincerely ~ whostinoGustavo Wincenté PinuDeLa Linho
Omar and Cedric hardly aged and made me feel young again!! They've each matured in their styles, making them that much better.... As if that was possible!
The turn out was underwhelming but the show was good. I think that the low turn out is because they are playing their new music and the majority of their audience hang on their older music. I like both, think they are amazing musicians and their willingness to grow & share that evolution is admirable. Art over money in that regard. I imagine that if the need for a strictly financial tour becomes a thing it would be similar to their last show at The Tabernacle**. They played an assortment of "hits"from their older albums and the energy from the crowd was awe-inspiring. Best. Vibe. Ever. **That was the most amazing show since the Roseland Ballroom in NYC 5/5/5.
This whole show was phenomenal 👏👏 The openers were so dope and now I'm hooked. TMV and Teri holy moly! Saw them open for Deftones but seeing them at the more intimate setting that is Jannus Live and being able to see them right upfront/middle without having to pay extra to be there was fantastic and when I tell you,me,my mom,and daughter had the BESSSTTT experience. They killed it! Cedric's voice gave me chills and him and Teri are freaking awesome together! The music was cosmic and definitely an experience! Goosebumps and chills felt!! Music reached my soul and the energy from the crowd was super dope!!! I hope they come back to FL because I will definitely be there again.
The Mars Volta put on an amazing show! They sounded great, the vibe was there! My only complaint and it’s not that big of a deal, was that they really didn’t play any of their older classics. Other than that, wonderful show, great venue.
they sounded really tight almost sounded like I was flying through space and I was caught inside of a hypnosis of ethereal music
They were fantastic! I'm a huge fan and worried about the guys having an off show. Not this night!!! The group looked great, sounded great and delivered everything a Volta fan could hope for.
I have been a fan of The Mars Volta for about 17 years now and I have never had the chance to see them. They went above and beyond my expectations!! They played some classics along with some new jams and it was absolutely stunning.
This is my fourth time seeing TMV since they got back together and I have to say they never disappoint!
If you have heard The Mars Volta before, then you already know how this show is gonna go: hard, loud, and crazy! Even after all of the years, Cedric's voice still hits all the insane notes just like when I heard De-Loused the first time 2 decades ago which is no easy feat! The music sonically builds up soundscapes that take you out of your body and send your consciousness to another plane. 10/10 would go again.
After a long hiatus, The Mars Volta came back to give us lifetime fans the opportunity to see them live. It is unsure if there will be other performances in the future. They were energetic on stage and gave life to their best songs. I would love to see them again if they ever perform again.
Mars Volta performance was amazing. It was my first time seeing a concert and The Union and I was very happy with the venue.
