Formed by guitarist/composer Omar Rodríguez-López and singer/lyricist Cedric Bixler-Zavala, The Mars Volta rose from the ashes of El Paso punk-rock firebrands At The Drive-In in 2001. Ona mission to "honor our roots and honor our dead", The Mars Volta made music that fused the Latin sounds Rodríguez-López was raised on with the punk and underground noise he and Bixler-Zavala had immersed themselves in for years, and the futuristic visions they were tapping into. The albums that followed were one-of-a-kind masterpieces, their songs of breath-taking complexity also possessing powerful emotional immediacy. After the group fell silent, a legion of devotees (including Kanye West) kept up an insistent drum-beat for their return. Now-a year after 'La Realidad De Los Sueños', aluxurious 18-LP box-set compiling their back catalog, sold out its 5,000 print run in under 24 hours-The Mars Volta are back.
Throughout their career, The Mars Volta have brought played many famous venues to capacity, like Tabernacle in Atlanta and Terminal 5 in New York.
One of the best shows I’ve seen in a while!!! Mars Volta is really on top of their game right now!!!
The Mara Volta was awesome. Ticketmaster’s summer deal w/ 4for$80 tickets was hassle free for a change. 20Monroe is an alright venue with very expensive drinks and inconveniently located bathrooms.
Glad I was there to experience this one of a kind performance!
Fourth time seeing these guys (and gal) and I could not have asked for a better show. Well, maybe if they'd played Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt. Mostly older song selection (1st 3 albums + latest release) which was anticipated, and appreciated. Highlight of this iteration of musicians is the drummer, Philo, without a doubt. BIG sticks to fill and she CRUSHED it. Absolutely flawless. 10/10 go see them on this tour. Not to be missed.
This was an incredible show!! First time at 713 Music Hall and the sound was great!
epic, fun, and not what i expected, the mars volta show was incredible, it was my first time seeing them live, but ive been a fan for over ten years now. You can really tell they have become masters at their craft, omar and cedric were absolutley amazing. It seems they had the entire croud happy and dancing through the whole night. they played a lot of hits from my favorite album deloused in the commotorium, but they also played a lot of their other stuff. kind of sucks they didnt do an encore, but thats it when it comes to any negative notes. Now i cant wait to see them again!
The Mars Volta is the greatest band of all time. Sound at 713 Music Hall was immaculate.
Best seats are mezzanine. Incredible sound. Incredible service. One of the best experiences I've had at a show and I've seen over 100 artists in my life. TMV...please never stop performing. You make life better. Thank you!!!
The venue itself is great. The way its laid out is geared towards amplify and ease for the people. Expensive, but thats a concert.. Mars Volta, anytime they come to Houston, I'll be there. Period. Incredible show, both musically and visually! 🥰🎵
The show was amazing, the venue was really nice with a very easy entrance and multiple merch tables set up for easy access. Teri Gender Bender was a great opener and the Volta always bring an awesome energy and vibe!
First time seeing a show at 713 Music Hall, great acoustics and size. Volta obviously melted everyones face with banger after banger.
This show was absolutely incredible. This was a bucket-list band for me and both the band and the Orpheum folks made this show an excellent experience.
The venue was gorgeous, the sound was wonderful, the band put on an awesomely Jose-dropping performance!
Opening band was amazing. Teri Gender Bender is a total vibe. I Loved the stage set up with the mirrors and OMG the lights. The entire band looked like they were having a great time. They didn’t jam as much as I would have liked but on the flip side there was a bigger set list. I saw this band 18 years ago at the same venue while still in high school. I loved every minute of it and can’t wait to see them again.
Fantastic band to see live! I saw them in New Orleans after being a fan for years. Please see them, they’ve kept the heat all these years. Great, energetic show
Everything was on point, staff was really friendly and helpful. Everything was organized we got in and out without having any sort of problems.
Great show, great venue. I have been wanting to see TMV for a while. Should have seen them when I had the chance between 2003 - 2012ish, but more than happy and thankful to them that I got to do it this year. Also, along with Teri - come on man, it doesn't get any better. Her and her band are awesome! She is such a weirdly, incredible performer. The TMV were on point - true artists - everyone on the stage! Saw them in Atlanta as well. Thinking about heading to Colorado... who's ready?
Great Band and Energy! Abraham Chavez Theater is great because every seat is an excellent choice. However, management needs to leave some of the doors open to allow the air conditioning to flow.
First time at the Masquerade. Great venue and the sound was terrific. I am normally not impressed with live sound these days, as it seems most live mixing engineers favor a bass-heavy approach combined with a “louder is better” mentality, resulting in noise that is sometimes unrecognizable as the music I came to hear. The sound at this show was clear and balanced very well, so kudos to the mix engineer for both TMV and Teri Gender Bender. Speaking of, this was the first time in recent memory that I wasn’t waiting for the opener to be finished. Teri Gender Bender has a tight band with great arrangements, and the stage presence was top notch. What a voice! See this tour if you get the chance. The Mars Volta personnel were all incredible musicians, and there were moments of improvisation that made me think of Coltrane’s and Davis’ electric days. I especially enjoyed when the keyboardist took a solo and Omar (guitar) stepped off the stage to watch and listen - I could see that he (and the rest of the band) were really listening to the solo and being amazed along with the audience, adding a genuine sense that many in attendance, including the band, really value musical talent. Great night!
These guys are true masters of their craft, Omar and Cedric are still on top of their game, they have matured and with age comes focus, I would attend to more of their shows if they are near my area.
