About

The Lemon Twigs in Concert

It's not necessarily obvious that the Lemon Twigs hail from modern-day Long Island. The rock band, led by brothers Brian and Michael D'Addario, are a seamless fit with any record collection full of adventurous 1960s and '70s music—specifically, Todd Rundgren's kaleidoscopic pop; the psychedelic sounds of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd; Big Star's well-wrought power pop; and Elton John's soulful, bluesy piano balladry. Appropriately, the brothers' stage looks are also retro-leaning, from their '70s teen heartthrob shaggy haircuts on down to clothing such as expertly flared jeans.

The Lemon Twigs' sophomore effort, an elaborate concept album titled ‘Go to School,' exudes even greater ambitions. Inspired by Stephen Sondheim, the album boasts ornate arrangements incorporating elements such as peppy horns, lush strings, and jagged electric guitars. Plot-wise, ‘Go to School' follows a teenaged chimpanzee named Shane who's struggling to come to terms with his simian nature because his human parents brought him up as a human. None other than Rundgren himself portrays the dad, while the D'Addario brothers' mom, Susan Hall, vocalizes the parts sung by the chimp's mom.

The rock opera format is a natural for the siblings. Both are actors who have performed on Broadway—Brian was in ‘Les Misérables' and also portrayed the adorable, colorful fish Flounder in the musical version of ‘The Little Mermaid'—while Michael had a prominent role in the 2012 Chris Pine movie ‘People Like Us.' The brothers' father, a songwriter named Ronnie D'Addario, also has extensive music industry experience.

After the brothers decided to start taking music more seriously in 2014, they found an early champion in Foxygen's Jonathan Rado, a kindred musical spirit who produced the Lemon Twigs' debut album, 2016's ‘Go Hollywood.' From there, it's been nothing but forward momentum, with performances on late-night TV (including on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon"), major festival appearances (e.g., Coachella, Glastonbury), and even a big opening gig for Arctic Monkeys.

Great band, with a great show!

    by E. R. on 6/18/19Mercury Ballroom - Louisville

The Lemon Twigs put on one of the best shows I have seen recently. It's nice to see someone so passionate about their music. The venue was great and the entire experience was well worth the price if not more.

The music was fantastic, I had a lot of fun, and I met a ton of nice people. Probably the happiest I’ve been in a long time. Overall a really great experience.

Extreme talent and a fun time!

by popcornwizard on 1/17/19Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Originals in their own right Michael and Brian are truly a new, refreshing visit to the sounds enjoyed from the 60s into the present, all with their own view on love and life! They are brilliant singer/songwriters, musicians (are you kidding me?), entertainers (are you kidding me?), intense lyrics (listen, read them, they know of what they speak, Broadway take notice, I feel there is a new show on the horizon!)! Now Daryl Johns? (be still my heart) this lad is an incredible talent! The new band is tight, and a great new adventure for the boys! Even though the Paradise is a really small venue, and their appearance happened on a mid-winter January night while all the local students were still, I don't know, out of town, the Twigs gave us a show as if we were a thousand strong, and I thank them for that! Susan and Ronnie have given us talents for the ages! Thank them!

The Lemon Twig just might save music!!!

by Drummergirl on 1/17/19Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Everyone should see this band. High energy, creative, smart, funny and talent beyond anything recently seen. Harmonies only a family can produce and a cool stage look that will bring you back to 1970s! Their new album Go To School is nothing short of a rock opera about a monkey named Shane that will have you thinking, cheering and wondering. They also perform songs from their Do Hollywood album, which are just heavenly melodies. Simply the best band around these days.

    Simply amazing

by Anonymous on 10/23/17Teragram Ballroom - Los Angeles

The Teragram Ballroom is a great venue. The sound mix was awesome. The air was constantly circulated so it never got hot and sweaty like it can in so many venues. Thee is a Moracan cafe attached with some great food to choose from. As amazing as video is of The Lemon Twigs, seeing them live was ten times more than that. Energetic, frenzied, quirky brilliant rock songs are the mainstay of this band. Best club show I've ever seen! They are poised for stardom, mark my words.
