About

Eleven of Australia’s finest artists

20 incredible songs

One of the greatest concerts of all time!

This April, Tim Rogers, Paul Dempsey, Richard Clapton, Kevin Borich Olympia, Vika & Linda Bull and The RocKwiz Orkestra will revisit a significant rock and roll music event: The Last Waltz.

Originally held at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco as The Band’s farewell concert, The Last Waltz brought together rock and roll royalty to pay tribute to everyone’s favourite group, THE BAND. Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Muddy Waters, Neil Young, Eric Clapton and others performed an incredible variety of well known and cult hits.

The set list featured The Band favourites and draws from the guest’s rich catalogues … Up on Cripple Creek, Forever Young, The Shape I’m In, Caravan, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, The Weight, Mannish Boy, Further On Up The Road, Helpless, Coyote, I Shall Be Released … to name but a few

The Band and their guests played until two thirty in the morning, closing proceedings with ‘Don’t Do It’. It was the last time they ever played together. The concert was filmed by Martin Scorsese and has been billed as ‘the greatest concert film of all time’, developing legendary status as a concert, an event and a movie.

Introduced by RocKwiz co host and writer, Brian Nankervis, this is your chance to hear the stories (and the myths) behind the concert and to witness the incredible music, performed live by a star studded Australian cast.

The Rockwiz Team first performed The Last Waltz Revisited at The State Theatre at The Melbourne Arts Centre in December 2015 and received multiple standing ovations and rave reviews from the sold out audience.

Don’t miss this unique concert experience!

“The Rockwiz Team’s presentation of The Last Waltz Revisited was pure joy. A superb recreation of a legendary concert, performed by some of our finest singers. Spontaneous, multiple standing ovations are rare these days, but you couldn't keep this audience seated. Loved it.”

Danny Katz, The Age,Melbourne.

    O.M.G!

by Susan Kay on 12/1/22Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

This was THE best concert EVER! and I've been a concertgoer for over 50 years. These musical LEGENDS did an AMAZING job of recreating the Last Waltz ~ with their spin on it. An absolutely stunning and mesmerizing performance. Over a week later, I'm still walking on air. I wish they'd make a movie of these shows to add to my other favorite movie, the original Last Waltz.

    Experiencing the Last Waltz....again

by TheBandFan on 11/29/22The Magnolia - El Cajon

I had the opportunity to watch the documentary, The Last Waltz and enjoyed it thoroughly! Pre-pandemic I went and saw a little known local San Diego band named, "Mrs. Henry" do an amazing job of replicating the "sound" of this performance by "The Band". The venue was BellyUp Tavern in Solana Beach, CA. The acoustics there were great! Vocals were clear and sound mixing was balanced. Not so at The Magnolia in El Cajon, CA. Same band performing and singing their hearts out. Sound was too loud and distorted at times and lyrics very hard to hear clearly. Overall experience was enjoyable but would have been better if the sound mixing was better. Microphone issues were experienced by several of the artists. Lead singer of "Mrs. Henry" even said this was their first concert in a large venue like this. (The venue holds 1400).

    Awesome show!

by Richard on 11/29/22The Magnolia - El Cajon

The recreation of the Last Waltz was spot on. The individual musicians honored and respected the music of the Band with skill and joy and still maintained their own individualities. At the core is the band Mrs Henry / Chest Fever . I'm totally impressed!

    What a show!?!

by CY on 11/29/22The Magnolia - El Cajon

The closest thing to the actual "Last Waltz"!! The band was tight, and every guest they brought on stage was amazing. They really did a great job bringing that same energy that The Band brought to their farewell show. I can't wait to see the again next year!!

    Classic Entertainment

by JJH on 11/29/22The Magnolia - El Cajon

Loved this show so much! The core band was excellent, and the night was filled with talented musicians coming and going on stage, such a rare style these days, and they really put their all into it. The only problem was that the sound mixing wasn’t amazing - the sound should’ve been a lot crisper. Not sure if that was the venue or the way there speakers were set up on stage. Would recommend to anyone looking for a bluesy/southern rock good time.

    Terrible sound. Too loud.

by Disappointed on 11/29/22The Magnolia - El Cajon

The experience was terrible and I left at intermission like many others. The sound was simply awful. The music was unlistenable and psychologically uncomfortable. Specifically the bass guitar was way too loud and all the other instruments were drowned out in a mess of Brown Noise. Either the theater had terrible acoustics, and or sound Man was a disaster. Probably both. It was very disappointing.

    Didn’t go…

by KurtB on 11/29/22The Magnolia - El Cajon

I wish the details of the lineup had been available at the time tickets went on sale. I bought a ticket based on an incorrect guess and was disappointed by the actual lineup. Then when I was notified that the El Cajon holiday lights event was going on at the same time, I decided to just skip it.

    Did The Band Proud

by Bilmo on 11/27/22Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

This was our first time in the Mahaffey Theatre. A lovely venue! First and foremost, the band played for almost 3.5 hours with one 15 minute break. Epic! They sounded fantastic, did a great job of recreating the celebratory atmosphere of the original concert. Totally impressed. The one downside was that the sound was a bit muddy due to over-amplification (imho).

    Last Waltz too LOUD

by Ray on 11/23/22Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

I saw the last waltz in an old style traditional theater with a balcony in St. Petersburg Florida. There were enough speakers for an outdoor multi acre festival. The music was so loud, I was forced to put cotton from a tissue in my ears. I was still worried it might be damaging my ears. My brother listened to half of the concert with his naked ears and couldn't hear anything of normal volume at that point. In addition, the volume distorted the high quality of the performances thus ruining what would have been an interesting, fun, and creative show. The performers could have simply used their on stage amplifiers and all would have been heard and clear in the upper decks of this large theater. If an orchestra can perform in such a theater without amplification, why did they bring enough to blast an outdoor amphitheater? I left at the intermission because the distortion was so bad I could not enjoy the show at all.

    Magical Evening

by BobFV on 11/23/22Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

A supergroup of Southern Rock and Cajun Fusion music superstars got together and recreated the famous “Last Waltz” concert of The Band from 1976. The performance was extremely tight! Vocals on all the numbers, including ones initially sung by Neil Young and Van Morrison, were superb and the horn section! The horn section would have been the highlight of the night had it not been for the virtuoso guitar playing of Warren Haynes! If you ever get a chance to see this concert just go, even if you have to travel, a rare treat! Venue note - the Duke Center is a great venue, but the sound system had some distortion in the midrange, the voices were slightly distorted to me, but the performance more than made up for it.

    had high hopes

by erasmus69 on 11/23/22Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

now I love Warren Haynes and take advantage of all opportunities to see him perform. I was so disappointed. probably my error thinking the Last Waltz could be revived with the energy of the original. In my opinion, for what it's worth, the audio was loud and "muddy", the set list (though true to the original) lacked punch and the general sense I couldn't be rid of was it was merely a glorified tribute band with good intentions. guess my older self has become increasingly critical but I'll keep coming back.

The players that make up this version of The Band are some of the best in the business. It’s a true homage to The Last Waltz; you can feel the respect and love they all have for the music. It was absolutely amazing. Thank you Warren and team!
