    Greatest live performance - awesome

by VincentMC on 3/16/12The Music Box - Hollywood

First heard of Joy Formidable when they opened for Jane's Addiction at the Joint in Las Vegas. Jane's cancelled but The Joy Formidable was still scheduled to go on. I decided what the hell. I had no expectations going in to the concert - it blew my mind. The raw energy of the band was incredible. Been to close to 60 concerts in the last 15 months - The Joy Formidable is a must see. They were just as fantastic this time at the Mayan. Mind blowing passion, energy, you name it - they've got it. This is a don't miss concert. If you miss it, then you miss out on life. Honestly.

They rocked.....plain and simple. They remind me of Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders (Rock n Roll Hall of Famers!) but they rock harder, sound better, and perform with more passion! I hope and trust that they will be around for a long long time. I am familiar with only a few of their songs but hearing them 'live', and those that I was unfamiliar with, literally blew me away. Heard them on a few interviews......they are intelligent, articulate, engaging and fun.....but seeing them live and watching them perform clearly shows how this band is mature far beyond their years and play with such synchronicity, power, and elegance combined with showmanship, fan appreciation and fun. Truly an Amazing Show! And playing a gig at The Mayan doesn't suck.....what a venue!

Joy Formidable is the real deal...

by JamesHunterRoss on 3/16/12The Music Box - Hollywood

I already knew this band was great, and is one of my favorites of 2011. Their show at The Mayan rocked, the sound was pretty good, and the energy level was very high. The put on an entire show, as opposed to just playign music; they knew they were onstage, knew they were being enjoyed, and enjoyed thenselves. On thing that came across live that I think is lost a little on the recording is how insane the drumming is. Live, the drums were up-front, and the drummer was a big part of the show and the sound; absolutely amazing, and the drums lifted everything off the ground. Vocals were great.

    by Brin28 on 12/18/11Vogue Theatre - Indianapolis

Ritzy Bryan is unbelievable. The band chemistry just sucks you in. I've seen a few shows at the vogue and its a great atmosphere and a good crowd. Can't wait to go there for another show!

    Inflatable cats, oh my!

by WalksTop on 10/6/11Newport Music Hall - Columbus

The Joy Formidable has a great band name and a great sound. They really had a lot of energy and kept the crowd going. I'd recommend seeing them live! (Even though their giant inflatable cats did freak me out a little bit...)

    The Joy Formidable

    by AltRock11 on 10/3/11Orpheum - Tampa

This band kicks ass!!! The tickets for the concert at the Orpheum were inexpensive and the venue was very small. This probably accounted for the short set. They only played for about 45 minutes, but it was pure heaven for those 45 minutes. Can't wait to see them again at the 97X Next Big Thing concert in December!!!!!!!!!!

    Giant Freaking Cat Heads

by Ronin1921 on 10/2/11Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Nice set. Tremendous energy. So glad to have Formidable back in town. And the aforementioned cat heads were a fun effect and instant inside joke for all who attended. Thanks for the Low Dough Show.

    Wall of Sound

by Stridergrey on 10/2/11Newport Music Hall - Columbus

One of the best high-energy concerts I've ever been too since I've been going to concerts since 1981. Very talented band, with amazing sound for a 3-Piece. They had a great rapport with the crowd - very generous and kind.

    The Joy was Formidable

by MWaterman on 10/2/11Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Shows are always better if the band is excited to be there and play. This was the second time I've seen them, and both times they have had energy about them. If you have heard their music and enjoy it, you should see them if they are in your area.

One of the best live bands around

by KCGSK on 9/19/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

This was the third time I've seen Joy Formidable live, and they always amaze me. The drummer is a madman, and is so much fun to watch. The whole show is high energy, and heavy and intense. This band obviously love to play for audiences, and to play with each other, and this joy is infectious. I would highly recommend anyone vaguely interested in the band see them live. The concerts have been consistently great, and I will see them anytime I can.

    Unforgettable

by rudawiz on 9/19/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Each band member gave a truly unique performance and each song varied from the album. This performance had everything I love, dynamics, jams sessions, Ritzy, etc. They played for a while and played most of their songs. I loved every second of it.

    Most amazing new band !

by purecussion on 9/16/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

The Joy Formidable caught me by surprise. I downloaded a free song on iTunes and forgot about it until it popped up on shuffle one day. I had to stop what I was doing and find out who the band was that had recorded such an amazing song " The Greatest Light is the Greatest Shade. "" I became obsessed, looking for every clip and you tube video I could find and waiting impaitiently for them to come to Los Angeles. That was April of this year and they were only playing coachella and a small club in San Fransisco. I did what any obsessed fan would do and grabbed my ticket to SF and was totally blown away at how tight this band was and how gorgeous their sound is. Fast forward to the show on 9-14-11 and I must say that they have been growing as a unit by leaps and bounds touring relentlessly in the UK and here in the states. Seeing them on a larger stage where they had room to move about and really cut loose was a real joy to watch/ here. If they are coming to your town do not miss them.

    Joy Formidable are very talented

by wq2345 on 9/16/11El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Ritzy seriously rocked the El Rey and all had a great time. This band is going places in my opinion. I look forward to new material from them. The El Rey was spectacular as usual - best GA venue in LA in my opinion.

Ritzy rocks and the Joy Formidable rolls

by steelgrave17 on 5/10/11Webster Hall - New York

Ritzy Bryan gives every indication that she is about to ascend to the top of the mountain. As far as female performers go, we have been awaiting the next Chrissy Hynde for over two decades. The Joy Formidable, including Rhydian Daffyd and Matt Thomas, performed a set laden with hooks. While their latest album The Big Roar is clearly a step forward for the band in terms of maturity and song construction, their live show continues to feel raw and energetic while Ritzy Bryan remains captivating and vital in a way that no female performer currently fronting a band is capable of matching. The band's live material maintains all of its hooks while sacrificing none of the "roar". The Joy Formidable is one of the extremely bright lights among the new wave of performers. They are not to be missed. See them while the venues remain small.

    She's Creepy

by DJopendueds on 5/5/11Webster Hall - New York

I love how creepy the lead singer girl is. Also, bashing a giant inflatable cat always wins over the crowd.
