Jayhawks triumph in teturn to Boston

by SPNH on 10/21/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

The fully reconstituted Jayhawks (co-founder Mark Olson is back in the fold after a 15-year absence) delivered a terrific show at the Paradise. Combining new cuts from excellent album "Mockingbird Time" with old favorites and deep cuts, the Jayhawks were on top of their game. Great playing, killer harmonies, incredible hooks. They're Baaaack!

Worth it for fans of original line-up

by Geronimo3D on 10/21/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

It was a great opportunity to see Mark Olson and Gary Louris back together with the band; especially at a small club like the Paradise. The set probably leaned too heavy on newer songs, because the show seemed to drag at times. I love the sound and songs off American Town Hall and Tomorrow the Green Grass, so it was great to hear those songs (I also like a lot of the Gary-led stuff, but I didn't expect to hear them with Mark back). Overall, it was nice to see the mid-90's lineup back on stage, so it was worth it.

Jawhawks took me back in time!

by sportjob on 10/20/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Going back in time to me is never a bad thing. The Jawhawks, with their original lineup and amazing harmonies, played a 90-minute plus show before a packed house at the Paradise. The only bad thing was they didn't play a couple of my favorites-but no matter- they played 'Blue'- and the new album is as wistful and magic as ever. Gary Louris and Mark Olson haven't lost the magic that cast a spell many years ago. Thank you Jayhawks!

I finally got to see the Jayhawks

by Bob2718281828 on 10/20/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

I got turned on to the Jayhawks after they had already broken up, so this tour of the reunited band was my first change to see them. I had high expectations and they were met. They sounded great and, in contrast to many of the shows I see, they were not over-amplified. This is the first show at the Paradise (or any venue other than Passim) where I didn't put in my earplugs.

Truly classic - the spirit rang through

by AnnieB63 on 10/20/11Paradise Rock Club - Boston

This was my first time seeing one of my long time favorites. Harmonies were right-on, the crowd appreciative. An all around feel good time. Still have some songs flowing through my brain days later.

    Terrible Sound, Great Band

by Fishahead on 10/18/11Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

I love the Jayhawks. They gave a great performance in spite of the muddy, muffled sound system. First and last show I go to at the Michigan Theater. I want to thank the chicks next to me who insisted on singing off key through out the entire show. They were able to make the poor sound even worse.

    Jayhawks; Pure and simple

by Anonymous on 10/18/11Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

Been waiting for a possible reunion of this band forever. Couldn't wait to see them live and they delivered. The crowd was duller than anything, but the Jayhawks were BRILLIANT! Went home with a ...smile upon my face....

The venue was a bit fancier than we expected for a Jayhawks show, but the staff were all friendly despite being in uniform. While the decor itself was nice, it was also kinda boring. The band was good, but was not mixed entirely well. The entire show I could barely hear the piano player singing or playing. The opener, Rayland Baxter was boring (seen it before), and kept downing himself!

    Jayhawks shine

by Heffty on 10/17/11Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

Jayhawks as expected were outstanding. Wish they would have played a few more older songs - something like eight of the 20 were off the new album Mockingbird Time. All were great but Gary Louris stood out, not only his voice but his harmonica and of course his guitar. The harmonies help make the band and live was no different then on vinyl or CD. Right up there with CSNY and Eagles in that regard. Crowded in the Wings, Blue, Take Me With you (When you Go), Angelyn and Tampa to Tulsa were some of the highlights. If only they had played Smile as the last encore ... it would have meant even more smiles for all that attended.

    Great Band, Horrible crowd.

by zappa99 on 10/17/11Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

You think people would be excited to see one of the greatest alt-country bands back together for the first time in 15 years, but you would have been wrong. No offense to the Jayhawks (or Rayland Baxter who was very good), but they looked extremely bored and I couldnt blame them. I have seen the jayhawks several times dating back to the early nineties when I was in high school. The shows werent rowdy, but at least there was some sense of fun in the air. This show was packed with 50 year old aging hipsters trying to impress people that they were going to see the Jayhawks. You would get a song and a golf clap from the crowd and on to the next song. I dont think the band acknoledged there was a crowd. No sing along moments, no stand ovations, no banter from the band, just sit down shut up and watch. I told my girlfriend as we left. It didnt even feel like a concert, I felt as if I was leaving a movie theater that was playing a concert of the jayhawks on the screen.

The dual harmonies of Gary and Mark is like candy for the ears! Thanks again for the blissful tunes!

    Jayhawks reunion less than stellar

by RaSteve on 10/17/11Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

While the acoustics and ambiance of the Michigan Theater were amazing as always, the Jayhawks performance lacked the same. They played mostly songs off their new album, which all seemed monotonous reruns of the same melody/chord structure. The only bright spot was watching Rayland play his heart out for about 30 minutes.

    The Jayhawks: Great as expected

by PapaHautean on 10/16/11Bluebird Nightclub - Bloomington

With as any "favorites" I have determined over the course of my Jayhawks listening, I could be critical of the setlist, but the performance was outstanding. My excitement about their reunion, new album , and tour was confirmed. Great musicianship and uncanny harmonies make The Jayhawks hard to describe. Seeing is believing, listening is sublime.

    Jayhawks at the Bluebird

by Anonymous on 10/14/11Bluebird Nightclub - Bloomington

Very impressed. Exceeded my expectations. Could have maybe played a bit longer, but they hung out afterward to meet fans and sell merch. The sound was good and the Bluebird was a neat place. The crowd was well behaved which was nice. I have most of the Jayhawks albums, but had never seen them live, glad I did.

    Great Band-Poor Facility

by SChappell on 10/14/11Bluebird Nightclub - Bloomington

The Jayhawks are a phenomenal band and would have been great to see in a small theater setting, like Buskirk-Chumley. The average age of a Jayhawks fan (like myself) is now getting a little up in years, but we still like to see a great show. My wife and I, however, had a difficult time dodging a few drunken college students who preferred to do nothing but talk loudly during the course of the evening. I can tell you...they missed one of the great bands of our time. The musicianship and vocals were outstanding. Gary Louris, Mark Olsen, and the rest of the band were superb. The Bluebird is simply too small a venue. It's intimate and you can get close to the show, but you deal with people butting in front of you and not listening to the musicians. I want to see the Jayhawks in a theater setting and will do so by the end of the year. Love the band, hate the venue. I would give the band 5 stars and the facility 1 star. I would imagine that they immediately called their manager after the show and threatened him for getting them the gig.

    Good Show!

    by DarcyFan624 on 10/14/11Bluebird Nightclub - Bloomington

They were great! All tuned up and in tune with the crowd. The show was a bit short even with the encore. But - they got quite a few songs in there! there quite a few new songs as well. The venue is an old Rock n Roll place and it is very cool. It is hot in there so be prepared for that! sole free now so that helps a lot
