As one who followed the real Jackie during his career, I was amazed at the look and feel of the play's performance. The capsuled way in which his life was portrayed was great and the performers were super. The part of Jackie Wilson was on target and moving. It seems that the artists put their all into the production.
I'm a huge fan of Jackie Wilson's music. I thought no one could ever imitate Mr. Wilson until i saw the play. How impressed i was with the actor who portrayed Jackie Wilson. His movements,looks and amazing voice had me believing Mr. Wilson himself was there. Great job!!!
The Jackie Wilson Story was a very entertaining production. The story line was engaging and the cast was very involved with the audience. It was evident that the actors and actresses work diligently to engulf their characters and to bring an outstanding performance to the stage.
I'm so glad you asked!! This production was phenomenal!! I lack the vocabulary to adequately portray the varied and monumental feelings it evoked. I grew up on 47th Street and as a young teenager, attended nearly every stage show at the Regal Theaterl. As Jackie Wilson was a frequent performer, I was fortunate to see his revue many times and can justifiably say, this portrayal absolutely, positively rivaled his performance. The play was well written, superbly executed, and extremely educational. I think Mr. Wilson would be (is) proud, indeed. And, whatever annual recognition/award that is given for outstanding actors in a play, Mr. Kelvin Roston, Jr. should not just be nominated, but should outright receive it! MR. ROSTON IS BEYOND REPROACH!!! Six of us attended and six of us shall return. Goodman, Cadillac and all the rest ,can step back and let BET take it's rightful place as #1!! SPECTACULAR!
Excellent, excellent, I cant wait until the next play. The play took me back to the days of Jackie Wilson, The Black Ensemble Theatre is doing a fantastic job at not allowing us to forget our famous singers/actors.
This show was a remarkable surprise!! The singing adn dancing was just amazing! The Black Ensemble Theater is also charming and there isn't a bad seat in the house. I think that the actor who played Jackie Wilson could dance even better than the original. Truly a must see and a treasure of a show!
Loved it! Not only did we stumble onto this gem of a theatre company but we made the debut of their new theatre. The cast was amazing, the band was awesome and the play was wonderful. There was a problem with our tickets. We mistaking had matinee tickets at the evening performance. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and we ended up with front row seats. Another pleasant surprise was the intimacy of the theatre. There was a receiving line of the cast in the lobby after the show. Delightful!
