The Isley Brothers on Tour

The Isley Brothers are as much a force of nature as a group you gotta experience them in person to get the full sensory effect. Though some of the original Isleys are no longer with us, Ronald and Ernie Isley continue to front the band in grand style; Ronald's vocal power and Ernie's guitar fireworks are both as strong and soulful as ever. Within seconds of the Isleys taking the stage, it's obvious Ronald was born to be a frontman from his commanding stage presence to his sartorial style and of course his undeniable vocal prowess, he remains a riveting performer. And when Ernie leans into one of his signature licks, like the liquid wah-wah guitar lines of "That Lady," the electricity is coming from more than just his amplifier. Add a killer backup band, dynamic dancers and a thrilling stage show, and you've got not just a show, but a full-blown event.

The Isley Brothers in Concert

Believe it or not, the original incarnation of The Isley Brothers first began performing back in 1954. In the decades that followed, the group evolved through a multitude of stylistic shifts, going from gospel music to R&B to funk and beyond. Along the way they've contributed tons of tunes to the pop pantheon, including "Shout," "That Lady," "Twist and Shout," "It's Your Thing" and "Fight the Power," to name just a few. In era after era, the Isleys have managed to successfully reinvent themselves, even as some of the original members were lost. Now the luminous voice of Ronald Isley and the funky guitar of his younger brother Ernie continue to bring the legacy of the American institution that is The Isley Brothers not only into the present, but into the future as well.

Boardwalk Hall is a lousy venue for concerts.

by Anonymous on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

The Whispers performed very well and Tina Marie took the show. However, Ron Isley did not do so well and we did not see the Isley brothers performing in the band. I realize this is his first concert in 2 1/2 years, but he was unable to hit the high notes that have never been a problem in the past. It was 11:30 p.m. when he came on stage and he was putting a lot of folks to sleep with his music. He should have been the first act instead of the last. In addition, the sound system was very poor and Tina had to actually stop singing and complain about the sound. While Ron was singing, there were sound problems. The seating is too cramped and this venue is not conducive to concerts. There were no screens for the audience to see those on stage, if they were seated far away. This is the first time I have been to the Boardwalk Hall and it will be my last.

    Tina and Ron was great

by NookWynn on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

I enjoyed the show however I felt robbed because Ron timeof his perrformance wascut short with no respect to him or his fans. I brought 6 ticketsand my family wanted to mainly see him. I felt bad for him because his name was advertised greatly but he wasn't allowed to perform long. The boadwalk center made alot of profits from hisfans and we didn't get our money worth.

The show itself was good, however, due to not having a good seat, I could not stay past seeing the Whispers. I was not able the navigate the many steps neccessary to clmb to reach my seat, so I left early. This was unfortunate due tor the 65$ paid to see Tina Marie.

    Ron Isley should retire

by Schill on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

Whispers were outstanding as usual. Teena Marie played way too long, probably filling time so they could get Isley straight or sober..Show started at 8 and it was after 11:30 before Isley's even came on stage. When they finally appeared, sound was awful and Isley couldn't even sing his own song "Who's That Lady". Mumbled through the words as if he didn;t know them Band was so loud, and couldn't hear second guitarist on solos as if it wasn't plugged in. Left the show, along with hundreds of others into second song. Pretty pitiful to have to wait 3.5 hours only to see and hear someone who should hang it up.....

Tina Marie knocked it out of the park

by Jazz262 on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

Tina Marie was awesome. I didn't know she could play instruments. The Whispers were good also. I left after three songs form Ron Isley. He needs to see a throat doctro or maybe it was becuase he was trying a new style of singing. He should stick with smooth R&B that he is known for.

    Tina Marie was amazing

by 1hotchocolate on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

This was without a doubt the "Tina Marie Show". She left you feeling 'ENTERTAINED". The Whispers are always a class act and in a CLASS OF THEIR OWN. Ronald Eisley was a big dissapointment. Glad I have memories of his "UPTOWN THEATER DAYS"

    INTERESTING

by KYMEEJ on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

FIRST AND FOR MOST TINA MARIE WAS AMAZING AND ROCKED THE SHOW. WHISPERS WERE GOOD; HOWEVER RON ISLEY WAS HORRIBLE. WE LEFT AFTER THE 3RD SONG AS WELL AS OTHER PEOPLE IN AUDIENCE. IT IS ASHAME MY HUSBAND LOVES THE ISLEY BROTHERS AND THAT IS WHY I BOUGHT THE TICKETS. THE OTHER ISSUE TOO LONG OF AN INTERMISSION TIME BETWEEN ARTISTS. RON ISLEY DID NOT COME ON UNTIL ALMOST MIDNIGHT. WORD OF ADVISE IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO ATTEND SHOW THE ORDER OF ARTIST SHOULD BE RON ISLEY FIRST THAN WHISPERS THEN FINALLY TINA MARIE. NEVER WILL BUY FLOOR SEATS AGAIN AT BOARDWALK HALL EVERYONE STANDING AND VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE STAGE.

The performers tried to work with what they had but the sound system was poor and there was no big screen in the hall to make the performers easily viewable for the audience. The place was not very professional and the intermissions were too long, especially bothersome for those who have a long drive afterwards. On a positive note, the performances were good.

    Teena Marie was AWESOME!!!

by BurgerPies on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

I rated this show 5 stars simply because of Lady T and The Whispers. I was HIGHLY disappointed by Ron Isley. Upset because the show was billed as Ron Isley AND The Isley Brothers. No Brothers, just Ron and he was horrible. Sorry, Ron...but I speak the truth. Why was he singing Caravan of Love without the Isley Brothers anyway? We left during his second song as well as many many other people. By the way...check your event posting above...it's TEENA not Tina.
