The Isley Brothers on Tour

The Isley Brothers are as much a force of nature as a group you gotta experience them in person to get the full sensory effect. Though some of the original Isleys are no longer with us, Ronald and Ernie Isley continue to front the band in grand style; Ronald's vocal power and Ernie's guitar fireworks are both as strong and soulful as ever. Within seconds of the Isleys taking the stage, it's obvious Ronald was born to be a frontman from his commanding stage presence to his sartorial style and of course his undeniable vocal prowess, he remains a riveting performer. And when Ernie leans into one of his signature licks, like the liquid wah-wah guitar lines of "That Lady," the electricity is coming from more than just his amplifier. Add a killer backup band, dynamic dancers and a thrilling stage show, and you've got not just a show, but a full-blown event.

The Isley Brothers in Concert

Believe it or not, the original incarnation of The Isley Brothers first began performing back in 1954. In the decades that followed, the group evolved through a multitude of stylistic shifts, going from gospel music to R&B to funk and beyond. Along the way they've contributed tons of tunes to the pop pantheon, including "Shout," "That Lady," "Twist and Shout," "It's Your Thing" and "Fight the Power," to name just a few. In era after era, the Isleys have managed to successfully reinvent themselves, even as some of the original members were lost. Now the luminous voice of Ronald Isley and the funky guitar of his younger brother Ernie continue to bring the legacy of the American institution that is The Isley Brothers not only into the present, but into the future as well.

    Mother's Day Music Fest

by MamaDD on 5/10/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

The Whispers were wonderful as usual. Teena Marie was awesome. She should headline her own show. She was amazing. Ron Isley was also good. However, his stage was not set up correctly and the band was loouder than his microphone which made it hard to hear him sing. If not for that problem he was also great. Teena gets better every year. She really should be the headliner of her own show. This was my third year of going and I will be back next year.

    Teena Marie was best performance!

by Tootsie64 on 5/10/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

I thought overall the show was pretty good; but was disappointed with Ron Isley. We were told this was his first performance in 2 plus years and it SHOWED!!! The way the show ended was not very good either. Very disappointing toward the end. As usual Teena showed her stuff!!! This is the second year I have seen Teena on Mother's day weekend and I think she should have been the one to close out the show. Specific reason being she is an excellent performer she involves the audience and she is a mother!! Last year I thought her performance was better than Frankie Beverly' s too! So I would recommend but get a better head liner to close out the show! Thanks,

Ron Isley, Tina Marie and The Whispers

by Matrixgirl on 5/10/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

The Whispers and Tina Marie, especially Tina were great. Enjoyed every minute as it brought back fond good memories. Unfortunately, Ronald Isley SUCKED. Seemed like he forgot the words to the songs, and his voice was horribly. Also, I will never go see a show at the Boardwalk Hall. What's up with that facility. They need to update it with big screen TV's. Although we had fairly good seats, it would have been nice to see it on a wide screen.

by SLIZZI on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

Very nice line up. The Whispers were the Whispers. They are consistent. You can count on them doing there thing. Teena Marie was amazing!!! Ron Isley sounded nice but he should have been first on the line up, then let the Whispers will warm you up for Teena.

Isley Brothers mother day show in atlantic city.

by Drove3hours on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

I missed the whispers, so, i can,t comment on them, but Tina-Marie was exceptionally good last night, she was enerjetic and slim and trim. Her outfit was up to date and she look terrific. at first I thought it wasn't her, because she lost a lot of weight. but when she start singing, lets just say no one can do Tina like Tina. She was great, can't say the same for Mr. Isley, he looked past his age; but, that not what bother me, he seem out of shape and as if he never touch a microphone before. dont get me started about his singing, what was that or should i say who was that! I love his music, but last night he was way off the mark. either he retire or get a voice coast and a physical trainer and nutritionist and work it out. I think it's possible for him to come back, but he is going to need to put in a lot more effect.

Mothers Day Atlantic City Ron Isley & Tina Marie

by MsDeb on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

The overall experince was good but so many people came late that we could not see the Whispers perform. I wish they were not the 1st to perform or that there was some other group on 1st. The people they had helping to seat people were not experienced enough, did not have flash lights and took to long to seat people. The lighting and audio people were also not experienced enough and it showed. Tina rocked the show out. She was the best and I loved it. Although I enjoyed Ron Isley, so many others did not. I say he was very good for his age. I was very upset when at 12:31am they turned the lights on and ended the show without him being able to say good nightor finish his set. That was so unbelieveable to me. I normally go to New York to see shows. This was my 1st time in Atlantic City to see a show and I must say I was not impressed. New York shows are much better. Not sure if I will make that trip again.

    disappointed in Mr. big!

by GratefulGrands on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

The Whispers were excellent! Lady "T" was awesome!! But Ron Isley was so disappointing it was embarrassing! His voice kept cracking and he seemed to be oblivious to the fact that many, many people started to leave almost as soon as he started to sing. The more he sang, the more people decided it was time to go. My husband and I thought that it was supposed to be Ron Isley and the Isley Bros. There were no brothers! But that would not have been an issue if Mr "Big" had actually sang well. He didn't!!! He sounded really bad. He was the "cold water on a hot show."

    Teena Marie was great

by Bubone on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

The Whispers were good. Their show is the same as always; but, they sang their standards. Teena Marie was outstanding. She was truly the star of the show. Ron Isley was terrible. His voice is gone and his performance leaves a lot to the imagination.

    peaches

by peaches40 on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

I loved the fact that all three of my groups were together in a concert. However, I didn't like the fact that we had to wait for quite some time to get in the areana. Our seats didn't seem to be worth the $90.00 a piece plus tax we paid. The sound system was wonderful. WHERE WAS ERNIE ISLEY?????? That's what makes the Isley Brothers. He is the lead Guitarist. I was disappointed by that. All in all it was a great show. I love Teena Marie, she is my favorite, and as usual she did her thing. KUDOS TO TEENA AND THE WHISPERS FOR STILL HOLDING IT DOWN. Also it was certainly good to see Allison Williams again.

Whispers and Teena Marie Stole the Show!

by cpena29 on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

The Whispers were wonderful and they still sing just like the albums. Teena Marie was GREAT! She sang and danced and hit the notes like the songs were written yesterday. There were two problems with the show: first the venue location. Boardwalk Hall does not have a jumbo tron screen. I wasn't sitting that far but I was on the side. When people stand up to dance, everyone in that row can no longer see the stage. That was terrible. The biggest thing was Ron Isley. He was terrible. He was the last act and we left at the beginning of the third song. Maybe he should stick to recording in a studio because live is not a good look for him AT ALL.

Teena Marie was outstanding as usual

by Yannboogie on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

Besides the fact that Teena Marie was there the show was the worst. I love Teena and she was worth the money. The Whispers & Ron Isley need to reitre from giving live performances. I would go see Teena any time! Teena gave a five star performance!

    Ronald Isley

by Culebra on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

Ronald Isley was not a good Match with the Whispers and Teena Marie. It would of been better to have had Frankie Beverly & Maze close the show. Teena Marie is still a sensation on Stage, her voice is still Golden and her recordings are no match for her real life performance. I love the Whispers and they got their groove on and were a good choice to open the show with.

Teena Marie...she still got it goin on

by toockie on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

Teena Marie was excellent..she rocked the house...I would see her in concert over and over and over again ...I was surprised that she didnt sing any songs from her new CD Congo Square but the old music was just as good ... Th Whispers got the party started ...but Ron Isley ...he got the raw end of the deal ...right in the middle of his performance they ended the show just when he was getting warmed up ...poor Ron he was so good too...well maybe he just sing before the Whispers then he will have more time to sing all he wants.....good show ..highly recommend to everyone 40 and over

    Tina brought the Energy

by Woolworth on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

I gave it an average rating. As much as I like the Whispers, as Scotty stated they can't do what they used to do and with Nick sitting on a chair, wow! What the hell was Ron Isley doing out on stage, I felt sorry for him. He needs to tighten up his act. He was definitely "Dreamin' on a Memory". He's done. All of the acts' bands were strong but it was a little loud.

    Tina Marie was outstanding

by fignew2 on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

Overall the show was good. Tina Marie really made the show. I was kind of disapointed with Ronald Isley, He kept saying he has alot of songs he was going to sing, but the show was cut short for some reason on another. The Whispers all ways gives a great show.

    The Isley Brothers?

by jamesandlynne on 5/9/10Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

First of all Tina Marie should have come on last. She had the crowd partying. The Whispers were great. But by the time Ron Isley sang his third song, people were starting to leave. And what's up with the hoochies in Ron's show? Nobody wants to see all that people just want to hear some good music. Also the show was billed as the Isley Brothers so where were the brothers?
